Nexus 7 |OT| Google's $199 7-inch tablet by Asus

I am surprised Apple did not try to have an injunction placed on this device. It is rectangular after all.

I wonder how much of these recent launch delays are related to the lawyers.

I think it has everything to do with it.

Has apple ever given a vague shipping to 2-3 weeks at a conference before?

This picture of Jelly Beans represents all the moods in this thread.

There are only two days for which the Nexus 7 can be delivered on that will cause chaos for me, and those are August 2nd and 3rd. I'll be out of town and so I can imagine the Nexus 7 will be left on my doorstep for anyone to pilfer.

So I apologize GAF, but it's almost a certainty that the Nexus 7 will arrive on the 2nd or the 3rd.

I'm guessing Asus is as much to blame as Google.

Look at the Prime's clusterfuck of a launch.

Who other than Apple has the distribution channels or even the fan fare to pump out millions of devices out before they are launched? It's a good chance that Apple can have millions of units made, ready for sale, and actually sell them through as soon as they are announce.

I think Google got caught by surprise on how popular this tablet became. I sure was.

Blame for what? They said mid July with no other details. The only people who think its a cluster are infoporn addicts that have to know every detail. Its not like they missed a ship date. How can you "clusterfuck" a few weeks when it hasn't even been two yet?

Pre-ordered from Google the second this thread went live. Have not seen a charge yet.

google pls

I have a Galaxy S3 ordered through Verizon. The charge became permanent on my checking account on the 5th and I still have yet to get a shipment notification. Needless to say, they've gotten a few pissed off emails from me.

Calm down, dude.

Clusterfuck is an overstatement. It's just kind of sloppy.

Maybe this is why Google is being so vague? Would make sense, as Apple is wasting no time filing injunctions.

Question: What's up with Adobe saying they are pulling Flash support from the Google Play Store on August 15th for 4.1 devices? If i get a nexus 7, install dolphin and Flash, will i still be able to use Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited?

How's a 7in screen for reading PDF and comics?

I'm seriously considering buying a tablet of some sorts mostly for books and video, but at the moment iPad feels to expensive, a normal Kindle apparently doesn't handle .pdfs very well and converting them didn't work well for my phone. N7's price is great, but with the limited amount of storage and the screen I'm not sure if it's thing for me.

Things do seem to be turning sour on a lot of other forums regarding the nexus release.

Case in point, Gamestop was informing some of its customers that they will be available the 12th. Now apparently a new email has come from corporate telling their employee that the "target" date is July 31st.

Google needs to stop being vague. Obviously they are having no problems pushing this to reviewers, so they need to start pushing to customers.

I saw that over at the Android Central forums too. Apparently a guy there received the tablets at his GameStop but it came with a printed message from higher up saying that the date had changed from July 12th to TBA, and that they were not to break street date :l

How does Apple's magnetic switch differ from Nintendo's magnetic switch? I have zero iPad experience so I am truly ignorant, not playing stupid.

In case it isn't obvious, I'm asking how Apple can sue the universe over their magnetic switch when it's obviously not the first application of such technology.

Apple created the magnet. Even though there's been other magnets for decades, Apple is truly the one to innovate it. All devices, refrigerators, etc that used magnets before are now deemed infringed upon apple's use of the magnet. I would highly recommend you take your magnets off your fridge before you are sent an injunction notice by Apple's lawyers.

Basically, anything that Apple does they hold a patent for it. Including smart covers. So Asus has the magnet on the device, which isn't patented by Apple, but they do have a patent for covers that make use of the magnet.

Apple was able to answer this question:

And thus, claimed patent ownership of magnets.

I know that feel bro :(

I just bought a Subaru, so hopefully that doesn't happen every 3 months :)

The day after I ordered a Nexus 7 my old beater '95 Buick got stolen, I was thinking of replacing it with a used Impreza Hatchback. Any comments on Subaru quality, costs?

Their patent is not for wake/sleep but for the cover locking on via magnets. How it connects and is held on the iPad. Which was a unique feature

It's dead. No more new android devices for you post August? Or you''ll only run pre-key lime pie OS's forever.

I guess it's Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 for like the next 2-3 years for me until flash is completely dead

my contract is like 2 years anyway with Verizon

people and company's saying flash is dead doesn't make those blue little boxes go away...

the real dirty little secret no one wants to talk about ever on the internet is that both Google and Apple wants there Stores and echosystem to thrive and grow and have people pay for content

People aren't going to be paying for that content as long is Flash is supported on there respective OSes where they are trying to sell you a lifestyle of media consumption

sure FLASH IS SHIT and it drains the battery like crazy but hey it lets me access the web like I would on a fucking full fledge computer OS on the go on my mobile device.

I FUCKING LOVE FLASH and it's the main reason I went with the Android OS for my first smartphone
a Droid X.

the choice was simple for me either do more with a android phone or do less with a iOS phone or WP7...

Why the fuck are they taking away features ? am I on a PS3 ?

feels like no one gets it and just like a parrot telling me flash is dead

NO IT IS NOT, NOT FUCKING YET

until the entirely of the web stops using it

IT IS FAR FROM FUCKING DEAD

I'm I just get mad when devices I've been using for a long time gets features taken away it's criminal.

It's more because it is a piece of junk that drains battery like a madman. HTML5 is far superior in every way it can do what flash does and better.

It is dead if the two major mobile OS's won't support it. Flash won't work on any future Android OS and doesn't already on iOS. Deader than dead.

I've never had a problem with battery on my devices that can access flash. (apart from android itself amirite?)

I mean, I know that it was true before because flash wasn't using hardware acceleration, but that stopped being true about a year ago.

Flash on 4.1 didn't even phase the performance on my browser anymore.

HTML 5 isn't really better right now though. It hasn't provide me with a better experience in say Youtube, that's for sure. I know a lot of people hate flash, but for someone who likes watching shit on the internet, it's hard to avoid it.

Also, that unboxing video is amazing.
