I'm pretty sure UK consumer rights say that the customer can't be out of pocket by returning an unopened item.
I'm not convinced that includes cost of delivery or return though. Hopefully it does.

Let me know what they say. Be interested to see if we can refuse delivery and get the courier to return it to sender for free like in the US.
They said that they couldn't refund me, but UK orders can be refused and they will refund within 2 weeks. Confirmed.
They also said that they are shipping orders today for the first people who pre ordered.
I've now got 2 Nexus 7 coming... So I'm selling one to someone at work!

Here's the rules on this: -I'm not convinced that includes cost of delivery or return though. Hopefully it does.
Only if it is covered in the contract and the written information can you require the consumer to pay for the cost of returning the ordered goods. If the consumer then fails to return the goods, or sends them at your expense, you can charge them the direct cost to you of the return, even if you have already refunded the consumer’s money. You are not allowed to make any further charges, such as a restocking charge or an administration charge.
If you do not include these details in the required written information then you cannot charge anything. You can never require consumers to pay the cost of returning substitute goods. If the goods are faulty or do not comply with the contract, you will have to pay for their return whatever the circumstances.
I wonder what the cut off for "first" people is? I ordered on 3rd July so not sure where that leaves me.
I got mine shipped to my workplace so if it gets shipped tomorrow, I wont end up getting it until Monday anyway.
I ordered mine literally as soon as pre-orders opened and the status of my order is "not yet shipped".
I went to the Google Wallet page and clicked a link to contact Google about my order. From the drop-down list of message titles I chose "What is the status of my order?" and then a short while later I received an email with the order status in it: -Where are you checking order status at? Google Wallet is telling me "complete" but its been like that for a week.
Someone on XDA just got this email:
"Hi again M,
Thanks for writing back again. I do have great news for you. As of the
12th of July devices will begin shipping out. I suggest keeping an eye out
on your email for an order confirmation email. In this email it will have
your tracking number.
If you have additional questions or concerns please let me know.
Regards,
M
The Google Play Team"
Another person has just spoken to them and was told orders will be getting sent out today.

iSuppli said:For the 8 GB Nexus 7, the bill of materials totals $151.75, or $159.25 with manufacturing costs included, iSuppli said. The bill of materials for the 16 GB model is $159.25, or $166.75 with manufacturing.
Nexus 7 Teardown Overview Factor in additional costs such as distribution, marketing and tech support, and iSuppli estimates that Google “will at least break even” on the 8 GB Nexus 7, priced at $199, and will turn a “modest profit” on the $249 version with 16 GB of storage.
Here's the exact steps: -Where is the drop-down list? Could you take a screenshot of that possibly?
Here's the exact steps: -
1. Log into the Google Play store and click on "My Orders & Settings" at the very bottom of the screen.
2. Find your Nexus 7 on the list and in the Status column should be a clickable link that says "Info", so click that.
3. On the next screen it gives you details of your order and part of the text says "Have questions? Contact Google Commerce Ltd." with the "Contact Google Commerce" bit being clickable, so click that.
4. Then you will be here: -
Strange. The top of the page looks like this for me: -I dont get that. I get as far as Step 3 but the next screen is just the regular google wallet order page with no "contact google" link. Lol

With news of Staples pulling back orders, Office Depot doing the same, and GameStop removing the item out of their inventory, I think we're going to be in limbo for a while here.
I live in the UK and ordered mine on 3rd July. I called up google using the support number and a helpful American fellow just cancelled it with no problems. I had to wait for about 20 minutes to get the whole thing done but it was fine once I got through.
I switched my order to ebuyer this afternoon once I saw that they were shipping today and the money has already been taken and the pick is in progress, so it should arrive here tomorrow.
I think they might be sending it to the wrong person but hopefully I'll get it fine tomorrow.
It's really starting to remind me of the mass hysteria here when the Touchpad was being liquidated lolITT people get worked up over not having a release date on a pre order with no release date.
Its not even mid July yet.
What the fuck!? That's weird man, it was on their site yesterday, and I pre-ordered it in-store and everything yesterday. What the fuck is going on!?
Oh, okay that actually makes sense. Don't freak me out like that guys!
Anyway, to change the subject a bit, should the lack of it having gorilla glass be concerning? I've never had a touch device before, so I'm not sure.
I'm going to try this. Hold little hope though, you're the first person i've come across that was able to cancel their order.
I was slightly surprised that he went for it... He said that he'd escalated the cancellation and I asked him if it was definitely cancelled and he said yes.
I'm thinking I'm gonna go Case free but... I've dropped my iPhone close to 10 times in the span of two years, and each time a case has saved my ass, so I'm kinda paranoid. Never had a tablet before so I don't know what to expect :/

They'll just rename it the "GoogleBlanket" or something.

On that specialist call page, click 'Order Inquiries' at the bottom.Clicking the link takes me to a page to call them or have a specialist call me. Nothing about sending an email about order status.
