Let me know what they say. Be interested to see if we can refuse delivery and get the courier to return it to sender for free like in the US.

They said that they couldn't refund me, but UK orders can be refused and they will refund within 2 weeks. Confirmed.

They also said that they are shipping orders today for the first people who pre ordered.

I've now got 2 Nexus 7 coming... So I'm selling one to someone at work! :p

Argh, the two week refund window would definitely push my bank balance over if I bought another.

Ace, Monday it is then.

I wonder what the cut off for "first" people is? I ordered on 3rd July so not sure where that leaves me.

I got mine shipped to my workplace so if it gets shipped tomorrow, I wont end up getting it until Monday anyway.

I'm not convinced that includes cost of delivery or return though. Hopefully it does.
Here's the rules on this: -

Only if it is covered in the contract and the written information can you require the consumer to pay for the cost of returning the ordered goods. If the consumer then fails to return the goods, or sends them at your expense, you can charge them the direct cost to you of the return, even if you have already refunded the consumer’s money. You are not allowed to make any further charges, such as a restocking charge or an administration charge.

If you do not include these details in the required written information then you cannot charge anything. You can never require consumers to pay the cost of returning substitute goods. If the goods are faulty or do not comply with the contract, you will have to pay for their return whatever the circumstances.

Someone on XDA just got this email:

"Hi again M,

Thanks for writing back again. I do have great news for you. As of the
12th of July devices will begin shipping out. I suggest keeping an eye out
on your email for an order confirmation email. In this email it will have
your tracking number.

If you have additional questions or concerns please let me know.

Regards,

M
The Google Play Team"

Another person has just spoken to them and was told orders will be getting sent out today.

I just ordered one from Ebuyer, hope I got in before they ran out. Figure it'll be too confusing to explain whoever takes the delivery to reject the 8GB one and keep the 16GB so I'll just make sure both are rejected at the door.

I live in the UK and ordered mine on 3rd July. I called up google using the support number and a helpful American fellow just cancelled it with no problems. I had to wait for about 20 minutes to get the whole thing done but it was fine once I got through.

I switched my order to ebuyer this afternoon once I saw that they were shipping today and the money has already been taken and the pick is in progress, so it should arrive here tomorrow.

I think they might be sending it to the wrong person but hopefully I'll get it fine tomorrow. :)

Where are you checking order status at? Google Wallet is telling me "complete" but its been like that for a week.
I went to the Google Wallet page and clicked a link to contact Google about my order. From the drop-down list of message titles I chose "What is the status of my order?" and then a short while later I received an email with the order status in it: -

Where is the drop-down list? Could you take a screenshot of that possibly?

iSuppli said:
For the 8 GB Nexus 7, the bill of materials totals $151.75, or $159.25 with manufacturing costs included, iSuppli said. The bill of materials for the 16 GB model is $159.25, or $166.75 with manufacturing.

Nexus 7 Teardown Overview Factor in additional costs such as distribution, marketing and tech support, and iSuppli estimates that Google “will at least break even” on the 8 GB Nexus 7, priced at $199, and will turn a “modest profit” on the $249 version with 16 GB of storage.

Here's the exact steps: -

1. Log into the Google Play store and click on "My Orders & Settings" at the very bottom of the screen.

2. Find your Nexus 7 on the list and in the Status column should be a clickable link that says "Info", so click that.

3. On the next screen it gives you details of your order and part of the text says "Have questions? Contact Google Commerce Ltd." with the "Contact Google Commerce" bit being clickable, so click that.

4. Then you will be here: -

This is such shit. If they released it tomorrow or allowed Gamestop and other places to, it'd be perfect, but I doubt that's going to happen.

With news of Staples pulling back orders, Office Depot doing the same, and GameStop removing the item out of their inventory, I think we're going to be in limbo for a while here.

Strange. The top of the page looks like this for me: -

EDIT - Ah, if you guys aren't in the UK, that would probably explain it.

Not yet shipped 1	Nexus 7 (8GB) - The first tablet from Google. Thin, light, and designed for Google Play.

What the fuck!? That's weird man, it was on their site yesterday, and I pre-ordered it in-store and everything yesterday. What the fuck is going on!?

I'm going to try this. Hold little hope though, you're the first person i've come across that was able to cancel their order.

It's really starting to remind me of the mass hysteria here when the Touchpad was being liquidated lol

Didn't hear about Staples pulling back orders though. I got an email guaranteeing my N7 was reserved dammit :l

Izick, its normal for them to do this, that way they don't accidentally sell the item. The managers have the ability to see the inventory stock, but it doesn't actually register on the in store inventory.

As of yesterday, it was showing up on the POS, but apparently today it is not.

Oh, okay that actually makes sense. Don't freak me out like that guys!

Anyway, to change the subject a bit, should the lack of it having gorilla glass be concerning? I've never had a touch device before, so I'm not sure.

I wouldn't worry about it. I had the Blakberry Playbook with a convertible case (so like a book cover) and it was fine. 0 scratches. I think you're golden as long as you don't throw it into your bag all nekked.

There's also the option of getting a screen protector.

I, myself, will get one of those cases again (as long as it allows the N7 to stand).

I was slightly surprised that he went for it... He said that he'd escalated the cancellation and I asked him if it was definitely cancelled and he said yes.

Amazingly they seem to be processing my cancellation too. He said it would take 24 hours or so to process, fingers crossed!

I'm thinking I'm gonna go Case free but... I've dropped my iPhone close to 10 times in the span of two years, and each time a case has saved my ass, so I'm kinda paranoid. Never had a tablet before so I don't know what to expect :/

Ill be on the lookout for a good case that closes to protect the screen and have some kind of kickstand thingy.

Yeah, I'm still on the fence about a cover. It's a shame, because I actually like what I see from the Apple smart-cover, I mean besides the ridiculously overpriced tag on it, but Google can't do anything near that because Apple will sue the shit out of them. The pad becoming like a triangle that forms a stand is really cool on that thing.

No matter what type of email you send to Google, as long a you ask to receive a copy of the email, you'll get a status update. None of those replies are automated specifically for asking the status of orders, it's just a copy of the email sent to Google.

Clicking the link takes me to a page to call them or have a specialist call me. Nothing about sending an email about order status.

Welcome beautful toddler, Madison Elizabeth, to the horde!
Stores have the Google Nexus 7's in stock, at least my local Gamestop does where I preordered. Just waiting on the date for release now.

Edit: I see others have stated this.
