Joe Six-Pack: posting for the common man

What the hell happened to quarterbacking in this league? Pure garbage. The number of quarterbacks who can read and react to a defense during the course of a play has dwindled to a tiny handful. I think a lot of it has to do with spread(type) offenses which generally call for a pre-snap read (that guys like Ryan, Flacco, Schaub, Stafford, etc. are unable to adjust from) and the change to penalties which tend to reward jump balls with flags. Andre/Calvin covered? Fuck it, throw to him anyway.

You look at guys like Rodgers, Brady, Roethlisberger or hell even Cutler and they are able to go through route progressions in the course of the play (something that used to be a fucking pre-requisite for the position) and throw to that third receiver running a crossing pattern after the curl and slant are covered. Flacco doing the same? Ha! Fucking NFL (with the assistance of the NCAA) has killed the craft of quarterbacking. Disgusting watching some of these guys pretend like they have a clue.
um what? Schaub almost never just throws it up to Andre.

Christ, this so much. The amount of times I've had to watch McCoy come to the line and not pre-read a blitz and then get destroyed is nauseating. Of course the Brown's guards can't even allow him a 3 step drop sometimes so it might not be all his fault.

It has all gone to shit ever since Brent quit.

Who do young qb's have to look up to now? Before they had Marino, Montana and Brent. Now they have to look up to nancy boys like Brady and virgins like Tebow (and Eli?). With Marino, Montana and Brent we got Superbowls, NutriFast and blue jeans. With Brady we get sexual ambiguity and crying during interviews about being drafted so low it hurt his feelings. I always warned you guys about the evils of Bradyism and now we are seeing the effect he has had on this league.

The only way to salvage this situation is for Brent to come back to Green Bay and restore order to the quarterbacking universe.

Flacco is worse than Schaub and that's saying something.

Hermano!

Thems the breaks normally... I was too caught up in a bunch of stuff this weekend to even bother with laying anything down, but apparently the Ravens were the only team not to comply and I know of 4 people it ruined some parlays for. ELITE.

We'll see how it goes this weekend.

Dat point spread. The rest of my picks were moneyline. I hate the spread, but I figured it's the Packers they can easily win by 10+.

But of course not.

I have actually been to more Eagles games than Steelers games.

If the game is any good the atmosphere should be awesome.

The good thing (the only good thing?) about Philly crowds is how funny they can be when things are not going well. If Andy Reid coaches a stinker the crowd can come up with some hilarious (and hurtful) things to say.

Have fun! Think of us when the Eagles are on the goal line and Reids calls the same 3 or 4 plays he always does (which never work) or when Castillo is spacing the lineman so far apart that even we could run for 4 yards a carry or especially when Romo does something incredibly stupid.

Oh of course. I am going to either lose my voice because the Eagles play well and win or lose it by cursing at them, Reid, and the Cowboys.

On the plus side both Peters and Cole are back practicing and should play. Graham is back on the practice field though he isn't expected to play this weekend. With Parker and Tapp hopefully healthy also they should be able to apply plenty of pressure on Romo and have a good rotation so no one tires out (Cole mainly).

The Eagles really need to play well from start to finish (the still didn't do that in the Skins game) and put together some run now. Lose to the Cowboys and they are done, buried far too deep behind the other NFC East teams.

BTW I expect Murray to have 300+ rushing yards against our wide 9/no LB specialty defense.

Nice. I am in section 214. You guys going down to tailgate early?

What time? I wanted to get to the stadium by 6.

Not sure if she will be up for early tailgating if only because she doesn't care much for football so to get something of her trip to Philly she has lined up Sunday with activities for us to do before the game. I'll let you know.

I don't know if you have seen Vick live, but it is pretty exciting. When he runs and turns on the jets to get to the edge or is running around the backfield and then goes deep it is definitely something you will remember.

In the case of Ryan, Flacco, and Stafford I think them starting right away and not sitting a year has something to do with it. Schaub also backed up Vick early in his career and yes we all know during that time period Vick and the coaching staff that was in ATL wasn't really a good staff for Schaub to learn from.

I think I am going down around 1. It depends on the wife, I am still getting her into the game and all the stuff that goes along with it. Convincing her that we need to be down there at 1 for an 8:30 game is going to take some doing I am sure. The atmosphere is going to be nuts though. Sunday/Monday night games are always so much fun, to bad I dont think they can win.

1 is pretty early for a night game.

There is not much near the stadium either, but you are not too far from the city either. You can just take Broad right into the city, it is like a mile or two from downtown. A lot of lights, but better than dealing with 76.

It is going to be cold on Sunday too so if you can convince your wife to BBQ and watch you throw a football around with your drunk friends and watch football for 7 hours outside then I think we can all agree that you won at life.

I actually think Favre is a root cause of this nonsense. Guy proudly proclaims he never had any idea how to read a defense, and these kids these days came up idolizing him. They should have been looking at a craftsman like Aikman instead of a slanger like Favre.

Greatest OT of all time.

With that said... Tim Tebow is probably not going to be the future of the Denver QBs (Matt Barclay consolation prize maybe?), but at least he's going to be make the rest of this season interesting for a Broncos fan (with his ups and downs). However, don't discount Denver yet. With the performances this week by San Diego and Oakland, an 8-8 team will likely win the West. We're still in it!

The only thing Aikman could have taught them is how to get into a bitchfight with Skip Bayless.

Eli can actually read a defense thank you very much.;) That's actually a bit of an annoyance at times with the Giants offense. Sometimes he spends TOO MUCH time reading the defense, making adjustments, changing protections etc. so the ball gets snapped with 1 second left on the clock or he takes a delay of game penalty. It's a minor annoyance though...

As to the Philly/Cowboys game, I'm freaking torn. Part of me wants to see to the Cowboys bury the Eagles for the season. At the same time, that would put the Cowboys in a good position for a two horse race in the East and they have a pretty light schedule coming up so an Eagles win would log jam things even more in the East. Rooting for either is disgusting regardless...

I knew my boy Flacco would come through for the Steelers, you can always depend on him to hand a game away. Back on top once more, thanks for keeping the seat warm!

Except Marino, Montana, and Favre are all assholes. Your quarterback isn't exactly inspiring anybody and exposed what cunts the Rooneys actually are.

The OP is NSFW. Had to wait and look while on break.
Well, the Falcons are coming back and Tebow is coming back. Coincidence? I think not. A higher power at work here.
I think the Lions had some cold water thrown on their face and woke up to reality. Now I think they will replace giddiness with determination. Watch out Packers.

Yep. Eli falls into the Cutler-category. He has the tools but can't always put it together. The guys I listed are seemingly incapable of reading a defense.

Let not kid ourselves the way Joe played last night reminded me of the bad years where our D didnt give up touchdowns yet Kyle Boller threw Picks left and right in the red zone.

Not much has changed about Kyle Boller apparently.

One of his kids has autism. He has put a lot of time and money into helping research and treatment of autism.
And Isotoner gloves were comfortable and probably sold all their stock before Christmas every year. Everyone got Isotoners for Christmas.

I will always be an Eli fan for life (unless he is playing the Steelers), but the guy is a goober of the highest degree.

You know what Ben and Brady have in common? They both went undefeated in the regular season.

You know what they don't have in common? One has a penis (which has been documented by at least two witnesses and in court documents). I believe we have all seen that famous GIF that casts the other ones masculinity into question (not to mention the dancing GIF or the crying GIF).

New England fans are not in a position to criticize other teams quarterbacks or give lectures to ez on race relations.
