NFL 2013 Week 4 IOTI - For a good time call Sweet Pea

Miami has the Dolphins
The Greatest Football Team
We take the ball from goal to goal
Like no one's ever seen
We're in the air, we're on the ground
We're always in control
And when you say Miami
You're talking Super Bowl

'Cause we're the...

Miami Dolphins,
Miami Dolphins,
Miami Dolphins Number One.
Yes we're the...
Miami Dolphins,
Miami Dolphins,
Miami Dolphins Number One!!!!!!!!!

Wooo!!!! Still enjoying the win since I've been crazy busy at work, I think I'm going to start denying some loans, they take too much of my time.

Anyways this Saints game might kill me depending on how we play, I really hope we get Patterson back, we are going to need all our DBs to step it up this week like never before.

That isn't what I'm talking about. Obviously if I had to pick between a SB win or an undefeated regular season with a loss in the playoffs I'd pick the former. But those are not the only options. If we agree that the playoffs are essentially a crapshoot then really it comes down to giving the team the most opportunities which is regular season success. That's all I'm getting at really (and the fact I'm still bitter about both SBs, if that wasn't obvious enough).
The thing is I don't feel comfortable saying that the playoffs are a crapshoot. It's like saying the teams shouldn't even play, let's just flip a coin instead. Sure, there are a lot of extremely close games that could easily go either way up until the last drive or key mistake or whatever but that's the nature of the game. The fact remains that the SB winner had to win three or four games with the highest of stakes against the league's best. In my mind that is worth more than anything that happened in the regular season, period. The regular season is only relevant for playoff placement. Getting in is all that matters, and the playing out of the playoffs makes everything previous irrelevant.

Obviously we need to agree to disagree on this, haha.

Aside from whatever personality issues he may have off the field, I don't understand how Da'Rick Rogers can't find work in the league. Went undrafted and now he's been released by the Bills and Colts. I really liked him at Tennessee.

I never said they were great. Most people here agree that the playoffs are a crapshoot though, so it's not a stretch to say with that given that giving credit to shitty teams winning the Super Bowl is dumb.
..and that's where I absolutely disagree. The goal is certainly to win consistently but there's no statute of limitations as to when a team deserves credit for putting it together. Whether that happens from day 1 of the season of day 1 of the playoffs - last team standing gets the ring and they absolutely deserve credit for it. Does anyone remember a team that goes 14-2 or 15-1 and gets dumped in the first round of the playoffs? Of course not. They played 17 games and were good for 15 off them. Congrats. You're the "best" team in the NFL that no one gives a shit about.

It's not easy to win a Super Bowl. Much less to do it consistently.

Well if we don't agree on the playoffs being a crapshoot, you're probably right then. No worries man. I would never want any NFL Gaffer to have to suffer through 18-1 though, except maybe Lunchbox and we all know that already happened!

As bad as it ever looked under Spags. I imagine both teams are going in to "must win" mode and that San Francisco will do it much better
Absolutely what I believe. What's funny is we are 2nd place in the division...
It really hasn't, though. Being blown out in London last year, they were equally terrible. Went into SF two weeks after and put up a hell of a fight.
Good point, that was bad too. At least it was against the Pats though.

Looking forward to your 10,000 word essay on why Ryan Tannehill is the next Kevin Kolb/John Skelton.

I may be bitter and spiteful but I would never wish 18-1 on Pats fans again. No one should have to go through that except for Jets fans, but we all know that'll never happen so it doesn't matter.

Didnt know they were apart of the defense. Why is your team being out gained.. 3 straight times. I know you're new to this winning thing so you youre disregarding possible signs of something underlying happening before your eyes. But getting out gained usually will spell a loss.

Got my truck back. Looks great. The shop didn't put any windshield wiper fluid back into it, though. They owe me $0.97!

Haha, you act like I never mention the flaws that the Dolphins have. I'm not blind to the fact that the team has issues and is still growing.

The fact is this is a QB league first and foremost. Everything else is important but drawing a direct comparison between the 2013 Dolphins and the 2012 Cardinals because of yardage numbers while simultaneously ignoring the gaping discrepancy in skill at the QB position is asinine. The Dolphins will go as far as Tannehill takes them, for better or for worse.

Just read that Moreno, Ball, and Hillman played rock paper scissors to decide who scored the one yard touchdown in last night's game. Hillman chose rock, Ball and Moreno chose scissors, so Hillman got the touchdown. That's kind of awesome.

Temple is my alma mater. I am not much of a Nova fan. Flyers are going to make the playoffs anyways so your comeback doesnt really make sense.

I was just thinking of Philly colleges and hockey may as well be college physics. I dont care nor know anything about it ! But i just assumed the Flyers were like the rest of Philly franchises!

Sucks for Ball and Moreno fantasy owners though.

Sorry Duffy :(

If ya need to talk, Pm me Im happy to listen.

Sorry to hear that, man. Hang in there.

Thanks guys, its just a mixture of stupid shit plus post-college crisis what the fuck am I doing with my life stuff. Plus my fucking sporting teams suck. Seriously fuck them. I could've used a win this weekend.

edit: oh and I got super sick over the weekend. How did I get sick in September already? Its gonna be a long winter.

There have been more 14 win and 2 win teams in recent years than there used to be. Parity is alive, but it's alive in the middle class. There are some awful teams catching lots of losses every year, and some elite teams that feast on easy schedules

As far as suggesting some good teams have easier schedules does not concern me because this article pretty much points out that any team with any record can easily win it each year. It seems obvious, but just making the playoffs each year is what counts the most. The NFC North and sometimes other divisions have less of this opportunity. It is not my fault the Raiders suck.

Great article. Can only be read all at once if given some time. The thing that still annoys me about the one playoff game system to win is it really does leave a lot of unforeseeable things to happen in a playoff game like turnovers, injuries, and weather to have a huge affect on the results. I still suspect the trend for lower winning teams winning the Super Bowl lately to be mere chance. I suspect it will not continue. The more teams added to the league also will water down the overall talent level in the league as there is a bigger amount of teams searching for talent in a limited size pool of great talent. So this makes it so modern day football seems to allow for less dynasties and less teams that manage to be well above average.

And at least your team beat the Packers.

Believe me, the Giants were garbage when they beat the Pats last time. Being outscored over 16 games is the definition of garbage.

Which is repeatable? The playoffs are a crapshoot right? If we agree on that then it's really hard to say the Ravens were even a good team last year. Sure they demolished the Pats, but they also barely scraped by with incredibly insanely bad defense by the Broncos to even get there.

Football is a crap shoot.

I'm new to the thread but you seem like a cool dude, hope things get better.

So Chris Snee is likely to be out against the Chiefs with the hip. David Baas is also hurting and it's looking like he may not play either.

Finally, Hynoski's shoulder could be season ending. So our starting right guard and center seemingly won't be playing against the Chiefs. Considering this past Sunday, I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing!

.

The NFL playoffs are like the Price is Right wheel spin, and the Super Bowl is the Showcase Showdown. It's not that it's pure luck that one teams beats another. It's that it's mostly luck when one playoff caliber team beats another playoff caliber team.

It's some combination of injury luck, turnover variance, fumble luck, officiating, matchups, pure luck and skill. Defining success or failure by rings is silly. Was Barry Sanders career meaningless b/c he won no rings? Were Lions fans just wasting time watching him play? If the journey didn't matter then no one would watch Week 3 football games

No. Championships the goal and only sports like track and power lifting have pure skill to success ratios.

"Best" distinction is not meaningless but it is correctly overshadowed by who wins.

That's why they play the game.

Then lose to the Colts after their defense clutches and grabs and holds Percy Harvin all game.

The Ravens got into the playoffs on a 4th and 29 after choking worse than a girl in a Peter North porno. Yes their playoff run was impressive but I don't think something like that is repeatable. Mediocre teams may catch lightning in a bottle but I'd rather not applaud a team that dismantles itself to sign Joe Flacco to an albatross contract.

The ravens get into the playoffs with or without the San Diego win. People love to forget that they laid down against the bengals the last week of the season because the game didn't matter. The San Diego win in November doesn't mean the ravens barely made the playoffs. Gtffoh with that shit. You sound butthurt. If the ravens didn't deserve to go to the Super Bowl why didn't the mighty patriots stop them? Why did Peyton throw that pick to seal the game?

Seattle is going 15-1 and is going to cruise to the Super Bowl.

Fuck no.

Week 4 Schedule
THU, SEP 26
49ers @ Rams although I hope both teams crash and burn.

SUN, SEP 29
Ravens @ Bills because Bills gonna Bills and Ravens look back to normal
Cardinals @ Buccaneers, I predict Freeman is going to relapse on his weight after this season.
Steelers @ Vikings Upset (lol)
Giants @ Chiefs Small Hands can't pull through the rage of Eli
Colts @ Jaguars
Seahawks @ Texans, This probably will be our first loss of the season. We aren't exceptional on the road and the Texans will be pissed.
Bengals @ Browns, Cleveland will spark new hope into Kave_man before the car of inevitability runs him over.
Bears @ Lions, Burleson's crash will hurt and it will show.
Jets @ Titans, Geno looked good but I think the Titans have started to get the ball rolling.
Redskins @ Raiders Rise of Flynn
Eagles @ Broncos Bronk too Stronk
Cowboys @ Chargers, close game until the last minutes where Chargers are going to fuck it up once again
Patriots @ Falcons, actual upset pick

MON, SEP 30
Dolphins @ Saints, second most powerful home advantage

Go Hawks.

Just read that Pryor can't remember much of last nights game. For his benefit, that's probably a good thing. Woodyard must have bopped him to last week with his hit.
