Can't say anything about the rest but this sounds like bullshit to me. Easy to shit on picks with hindsight. Didn't hear a peep from O'brien when it was being made. Seems like the same old cold war tactics we always see between coach and GM.

Do you understand why I lack faith in Johnny as an NFL starter in the AFC North? This dude is too concerned with the limelight to focus on football. He parties too much and doesn't put in the work it takes to be successful in this league. We took him over Teddy Bridgewater because of hype from the rest of the Browns fans. Leaders don't throw parties before games and cause teammates to be inactive. We're out of the playoffs already anyway but this helps the Ravens. Hopefully, Connor shows enough promise (a QB rating over 27.3) to gradually edge Johnny off the roster or force him to take the NFL seriously instead of acting like he's still at Texas A&M. None of the great QBs pull a stunt like this. None of the average to good QBs pull a stunt like this either.

NFL coaches and execs are always allowed to interview for job positions that are promotions. They may have some sort of deal where he won't listen to job offers, but the Pats aren't allowed to stop him legally.

What's the worst thing that can happen?

We win today, get in the playoffs lose to the Cardinals 8th string QB in yet another embarrassing home playoff loss and fall ten draft slots for our troubles, meanwhile Mike Smith gets fired and Rex Ryan becomes the Falcons HC where he finally has a real NFL QB and actual offensive talent and brings 10000 years of prosperity to the ATL?

Fuck it, let's do this.

Isn't Hoyer probably gone in the offseason? If the QB depth chart is, barring a free agent signing (of which Josh Freeman is currently the top name in the position) or drafting again, Manziel and Shaw, hopping aboard the Shaw train for a year until they sign a FA or draft again anyway kinda makes some sense.
