NFL 2014 Week 2 |OT| Thread Title Subject to Change Depending on Public Outrage

It is funny that goddell and the NFL has been criticized for years for being to harsh on punishments to then have all this explode due to not enough punishment.

It goes to show how quickly public opinion can turn. And also I still think a portion of the outrage is misplaced on the league to be the moral police and not the laws and judicial system. (specifically in cases like Rice and Josh Brent). Nobody really knows what is a fair suspension and after each news story it seems to be a rush to amp up the punishments. And this goes for the league. They're making it up as they go along

It seems to me the only way to calm things down from the league perspective is the following:
-Clearly outline and detail the punishments and duration of suspensions for each type of crime and # of offense.
-Also detail when in the legal due process teams deactivate players accused or on trial of crimes
- clearly communicate the policy to everyone so when things happen people know what the punishment is
-setup a discipline committee comprised of NFL executives and the NFLPA to rule on matters. Maybe the commissioner but this seems to be its own job to run for the league IMO.
- work on educational programs for people in the league to help prevent things from happening.

Oh and other leagues watch out. If you don't get ahead of it your time will come.

In the era today you think Kobe would be playing while his rape trial was ongoing? Who knows.

Yikes >>> RT @Ianfitzespn: On Carson Palmer being out today Arizona HC Bruce Arians told me it is a nerve issue in his throwing shoulder.

Cards fans mentally prepare yourself for Stanton starting for a while

The problem was the correlation between punishments for what most would consider small issues, and shit like this.
If you're going to punish someone for drugs, of pretty much any sort (let alone shit like weed), you better damn well punish someone for DA at a much grander scale. And he did the exact opposite.

But he wasn't just doling out punishment for drugs in the past right? It was for other more serious stuff too. The drug policy is the one that actually makes sense. There's clear guidelines and what happens with each offense. You might think it's too harsh but that's a different topic. Where they messed up is everything else it's them making shit up as they go along.

The lack of legal punishments for these acts also introduces a whole new grey area.

Right now the spotlight is on the NFL, but the legal system needs to be overhauled in a lot of these jurisdictions (NJ). They saw the same Ray Rice video and had more information first. What was Ray Rice's legal punishment?

Yeah and a lot of the black former players on ESPN said the same. They have been through the exact same branch physical punishment.

The point isn't whether its been done before or not, but that this is beyond normal discipline even if you prescribe to hitting your kids. Seeing the pictures seals the deal. A lot of people are getting defensive because they either do that to their kids or had it done to them. You want to hit kids fine, but there is fine line between hitting and abuse.

I can't even imagine hitting a child but sure a small slap on the backside here and there. But this is child abuse.

Want to see the Boomer rant.

who is that fucking nerd in your avatar

Belichick has been making a lot of genuinely bad coaching decisions so far this season. It seems like he's sticking with the 3-4 defense, with Chandler Jones at defensive end, and with Jordan Devey at right guard. We'll see if this plays out any better than last week.

Cris Carter has done that a lot lately.

I don't watch the NFL Network, have they been actually talking about this stuff at all?

I haven't been watching, but they're probably still talking about Romo and Manziel.

Maybe covered how Hardy missing affects your fantasy team or something.

Ultraviolet, a woman’s advocacy organization, will fly planes over three football stadiums on Sunday and Monday with the message: “@UltraViolet: #GoodellMustGo.”

“One plane will fly over MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, before the New YorkGiants’ game against the Arizona Cardinals. Banners will also be displayed above stadiums in Cleveland and San Francisco, along with one ahead of the Monday night NFL game in Indianapolis,” Bloomberg reports.

One good thing will come out of the Cards/Giants game at least
