Brother bought it off the UK store so it won't unlock for me until Friday :( Will try and jump on over the weekend to test out the multiplayer, I noticed Godslay and Yankee also have the game.

To be honest it's probably my favorite Mario game. I like it a lot more than the Galaxy games and it even manages to surpass the 2D classics for me in terms of pure fun (other than Yoshi's Island but I don't consider that a Mario game anyway). You don't get much exploration like in Mario 64 but the level design is unbelievably creative, tight, and varied. That's what I'm looking for in my Mario games.

It's basically a combination of the best parts of the 2D and 3D games, in my opinion.

Speaking of masterpiece tier platformers on Wii U, DKC Tropical Freeze is a must play as well.

Didn't like it? It's certainly not as good as Civ V was with all the expansions but it's not too bad. I do have a few complaints about it though. It's too goddamn easy though. I did a game on standard and didn't lose a unit to another player in 400 turns. I turned the difficulty up to moderate now and I am 150 turns in and haven't faced a single challenge at this point.

Yeah, that's the thing. Civ V was a train wreck nigh upon garbage on release. I disliked it. After the patches and expansions it became a very good game.

BE has some cool stuff going for it. I like the affinities. I like the technology web. The spying /covert ops are way better. I like the expiditions and resource pod additions to exploration. Satellites are a very cool mechanic and if the game were harder I could see how managing them would make/break your Civ.

It's also got some bullshit like the health mechanic just being a bit wacky sometimes. It basically punishes rapid expansion until you've unlocked all techs/virtues related to health. The trade routes are just free income because aliens never/rarely attack the trade routes. The victory conditions are dumb and super easily achievable. I think I got my first victory condition in my standard run in 250 turns using the supremacy victory. I think maybe I just need to kick the difficulty way up because it's sort of getting a bit boring.

Let's hope so, because I don't think Reading has a hope in hell of beating him. If you win this week and I can win the next two games (Including Round 2 vs you, sorry mate), it means I can win the division if I beat him in the final week of the season.

The things that stick out to me beyond the minutae:

1. Combat is still completely fucked. The AI couldn't figure out 1 tile combat in V, still has no clue what they are doing in BE.

2. "Diplomacy. Oh, there's Diplomacy, we forgot!"

3. The decisions start cool, then you realize they are totally fucking meaningless. Anno 2070 does this SO MUCH BETTER

I haven't played Anno. There were decisions in Europa Universalis, and those decisions were HUGE changes from what I recall. The decisions in BE are useful in very early game but then after like turn 100 they are absolutely worthless. Diplomacy is garbage. I expect this game to play out like typical Firaxis and it will turn out great in six months to a year when the first xpac comes out.
