I thought the same once. Now it's looking rough. I don't think this email stuff dies out easily.

It shouldn't die easily. It infuriates me. When I applied for a security clearance they had me dig up every person I met, every place I traveled to, every place my immediate family traveled to, the names of every school I went to, every job I'd had, etc going back for six years. That was for the lowest level of security clearance. I gave my fingerprints, my ids, every identifying thing I had in this earth to them. What do you think would happen to me if I sent an email out on an unapproved platform? Could I walk away? Why should she get special treatment?

The most infuriating part is that the government then proceeded to get hacked and EVERY PIECE of my information was most likely compromised. They got hacked because irresponsible people in our government made irresponsible decisions, just like she did with her unsecure email server. Everyone walked away with no repercussions. People whine and whine about what happened with wallstreet. They cry that we should go after the bankers because they brought our economy down. Why aren't we applying the same standard to our irresponsible government officials?

Do you know what they offered me for serving up my entire identity to thieves? They offered me like two years of free identity protection from a shitty identity protection service. Meanwhile the people that embody the very problem that could plague me for life are running for positions of even more responsibility. It's a joke.

CNN had a story today that the FBI have basically said they have exactly jack and shit on Clinton and the investigation is pretty much over. I can just imagine how the "interview" is gonna go. Nothing but fluffed up garbage.

Some of Hillary Clinton's closest aides, including her longtime adviser Huma Abedin, have provided interviews to federal investigators, as the FBI probe into the security of her private email server nears completion, U.S. officials briefed on the investigation tell CNN. The investigation is still ongoing, but so far investigators haven't found evidence to prove that Clinton willfully violated the law the U.S. officials say.
In recent weeks, multiple aides have been interviewed -- some more than once, the officials said. A date for an FBI interview of Clinton has not been set, these officials said, but is expected in the coming weeks. Abedin has cooperated with the probe, the officials said. Lawyers for Abedin declined to comment. The officials say the interviews of Clinton and her aides would be a routine part of an investigation like this.

So who is going to indict her? The FBI doesn't have that power. I'd like to see the DA with balls big enough to indict her with no evidence and what judge would even sign off on it going to a grand jury. And what crime did she commit, what law did she break?

I'm not saying she was smart to do it, but it was standard procedure for the previous SoS's and there were no explicit rules that she couldn't have one, she just went against guidelines to my understanding.

Waiting for my beta to finish downloading -_- probably won't get a chance to try tonight. Watched some of the giant bomb Battleborn stream, pretty sure I'm cool on that game....

I am so sick of the "oh the other Secretaries did it too" argument too. The reason it came out is because Clinton got hacked. If they had been hacked they'd have gotten the same treatment. Here's the difference: Powell and Rice didn't operate in a world where cyberwarfare was an every day and common place occurrence. They didn't operate in a world where it was funded by governments and put in military budgets. Clinton did, and she knew about it. She should have known better. Everyone in the government should know better. I won't shed a tear if the axe finally falls and she gets made a scapegoat out of because like it or not, it was a massive mistake. Being ignorant of the law and consequences of ignoring guidelines shouldn't excuse people from being punished for their negligence. They need to bring the hammer down so these security lapses stop, because they're hurting Americans.

The "scandal" has done nothing to change anyone's opinion about Clinton.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/views-on-hillary-clinton-and-the-email-controversy/

The server issues have also been used by Condolezza Rice and Colin Powell as well as it was standard procedure then. The emails that have been labeled top secret were not when she received and were only labeled after the fact. This is due to different labeling of what is top secret between governmental agencies.

And people will go it's just email like they have done with all the other times the Clinton's have been drug out for everything time and time again because the GOP has cried wolf so many times.

She isnt necessarily losing steam as she is almost to ten million votes.. She will finish probably under her 2008 primary totals but not by much. This is probably due to lower turnout as this is a less competitive primary this time and the fact that there is no Barack Obama on the ticket.

But this is all moot because there is no evidence to suggest that she is not going to be indicted and we will have Trump v Clinton.

Edit- And Chuck is right.. Take this to OT and let's get back to lighter fare..

Congrats Kave, the Raptors didn't choke.

I wouldn't have said anything if there wasn't a buzz rising on this. Hilary's people are being interviewed, she's going to be interviewed, it wouldn't surprise me if something comes of it.

Especially with the news of Guccifer and his dead man's switch.

The likelihood of classified info touching that server is high and is against the law. Look at John Deutch or Jason Brezler for instance. Now compare that to Hillary and tell me it's not serious, but just some emails. You don't have to sweep it under the rug for her. If she's clean it will all be good.

Don't be scared to talk freely here. There isn't much to be on topic with right now anyways.

@ Mack we know FBI investigates and DOJ indicts.

Maybe I'm reading to far into it, but it feels like something is on the way.

What was hacked from her server that hurt America? And did it or will it do more damage than Trump becoming President? That's all I care about right now.

Yeah, Cook came off a little weird to me in his Gruden interview. Couldn't quite put my finger on it, but just odd or fake.

Hard to say, because most of it would be redacted before public release. I can say that if there is stuff that "wasn't classified" that they said "probably should have been" about afterwards, there's probably some stuff that shouldn't have gotten out.

And personally, I'm not willing to overlook someone making reckless and potentially illegal missteps just because I'm afraid of a possible political outcome somewhere down the line. I don't think anyone should be held to a different standard. I understand where people come from on this but it's ethically wrong to me personally.

Having classified info on a personal unapproved server outside a secure government network or computer is not kosher. It being classified means that it is of importance to national security in general.

It could be a bad deal if they find classified emails in there. Or in the case of Guccifer, if he really has a dead mans switch and hard evidence that classified emails had been stored on that server? Also a bad deal because it makes them look bad for exposing it and also storing it.

She might have an out if they find it too politically charged or the fall back that she had full control as SoS to classify info. Or even an Obama pardon if it was to get that far. As of right now? Pot is starting to boil.

Reckless and dumb, sure. But criminal, I just don't see it.

I strongly dislike my choice in candidates, but the Supreme Court is too important for me to fuck around with.

*Edit* You would be very fucking surprised at how some mission critical info gets treated. Some people aren't aware that security should extend to everything they do. Not just their workstations.

A president Trump will hurt the world more than some e-mails ever could.

That goes without saying. I'm just curious if Hillary can weather this storm.

It's the one killshot that Trump potentially has, so you have to take it seriously in my mind.

It's interesting how much wagon circling the left has done on this -- beyond the classified intel (it's hard to explain how big of a deal this is unless you've worked with the DoD), it seems pretty clear the server's purpose was to circumvent FOIA. I guess nobody gives a shit unless it's the other party that does it?

That said, I'm sure they'll find a fall guy and it won't touch Hillary. Sucks to be him.

I think it's more "nobody gives a shit if the alternative is President Trump".

This nonsense has been going on for a year now! And the Democrats didn't run anybody as a backup candidate, meaning their only alternative is an angry old Independent socialist (who I happen to like, but it is what it is).

I really do wonder if they'd have played it different if a Republican administration had been in charge of the DOJ.

It doesn't matter. There was never a palatable GOP candidate, so Hillary (or whoever else won the Dem nom...so, Hillary) was always going to be the lesser evil.

Well, what I come back to as far as "does it matter?" is: I think it's going to be a lot closer than it should be.

I don't think we should ignore the law because a political outcome suits us better. Regardless of how you feel about Trump, all you can do right now is make assumptions about how things would be with him as president, unless someone has a functioning crystal ball. Those would be assumptions that a large percentage of the population would disagree with, at that. I don't think we should not enforce the law because of assumptions as to how things might work out in the future. The law is the law.

Probably. Trump never should have gotten this far if it were going to be otherwise.

That said, I still think Hillary wins in a landslide.

Trump getting 20% of the vote is still far too much.

Enforce the law all you want. I'll vote for Hillary in jail over Trump.

Seems like it was to get around FOIA. Which people should care about, and not for political purposes.

I honestly think it can go either way at this point. At least it's getting interesting.

Sure, but it makes you question her ability to do the job at all. Especially when you read into the negligence.

Anyways, I'm off to bed. Sorry for stiring the pot. We are officially in the doldrums.

people were just really dumb about trump in the beginning and even dumber when he started picking steam and treating him like a traditional politician rather than something else

Meh. She couldn't do worse than Dubya.

Nah, this isn't some thing that no one took seriously and then things got out of control. This is the logical result of the GOP's political strategy. He's not getting the nom because people didn't try to stop him until it was too late, he's getting the nom because the base is voting for him - a base that has been carefully cultivated by the party.

The emails are the biggest non issue ever. They are only an issue because of fox news. The previous two secretary of state did the exact same thing (private email server) and none of the information in the emails was classified at the time they took place. Some of the information was retroactively classified, but that's hardly a crime if the info wasn't classified at the time you referenced it in an email.

Nothing will result from the FBI probe, aside from new state department regulations.

I wonder what candidate the GOP could possibly shove out in 2020 after this election season. Will they just be in shambles as Ye rises to take on Hilary?
