NFL Off-Season Thread 4 - The Bears Still Suck

I guess I'm in the minority here but I thought the Kaep deal was pretty good. Guy was a top 10 overall QB last year and they locked him up before he could make even more money.

Dunno how long he can keep it up as a lot of his game is predicated on his ability to run for first downs but I don't think it was a bad deal by any means.

And would certainly rather have him than Cutler or Stafford.

just my preference to watch a pure pocket passer carve up a defense than someone who runs around a lot and prays when he throws.

I'm so happy teams are shooting themselves in the kneecaps to keep these QBs and later realizing they can't keep everybody that made those QBs get so far in the first place.

49ers contracts that expire after this season:
WR Jon Baldwin- Probably won't make it past training camp
TE Garrett Celek 3rd string TE
DB Chris Cook not playing much
LB Blake Costanzo Special Team specialist- our special teams did fine without him last year
DB Perrish Cox 3-4th string DB
WR Michael Crabtree Going to command huge money on FA
DB Chris Culliver Our best DB on roster
DL Demarcus Dobbs D Line has tons of depth
DL Glenn Dorsey Ian Williams will be back and was better than Dorsey last year before he went down
QB Blaine Gabbert what?
RB Frank Gore Sad to see him go but he's on the downslope of his career
RB Kendall Hunter Hyde/Lattimore/Jewell Hampton
G Mike Iupati Can be replaced
QB Josh Johnson Couldn't even make the team last year
WR Brandon Lloyd probably won't last past training camp
WR Kassim Osgood Special teamer
WR David Reed who?
LB Dan Skuta Split time with Lemonier last year- Lemonier should be able to replace him as backup
G Adam Snyder were fine without him once...will be fine without him again
DB CJ Spillman - Special Teamer
RB Will Tukuafu -He's fullback/defensive end- we have depth at both positions
DB Raymond Ventrone special teamer
LB Michael Wilhoite backup MLB- drafted Chris Borland for that position
DB Eric Wright 3rd best CB

Outside of CB, Niners have depth at all positions even if all these players leave. Also, draft ninja...

I love how all these Packer fans are complaining that Kaep got paid.

I bet you'd love to be in the NFC Championship 2 years in a row biiiiitch

Awesome news

This post reminds me of my "we improved at all positions where we lost someone, we'll be fine" attitude I had going into this past season for the Ravens.

Needless to say, I was wrong, and that if the Niners don't win it this year, their window is going to close as all their young talent goes elsewhere.

At least the Ravens got their ring. Whiners have no excuse. Plus their window closed when they signed Dahl. Time for rebuild mode

Outside of Crabtree, Culliver and Iupati, what talent? most of those guys are either special teamers or backups who barely see the field on game day that have been already accounted for in the draft. Even in Crabtree's case, there's Stevie Johnson and Patton to potentially replace him.

We cleaned house last year, and I was assured by everybody on other forums that my panicking was for naught and they'd be back in the playoffs that season. I eagerly look forward to fans of each team that pays only their QB and lets others go having the same thinking, and meeting the same reality. It's already happening with the Cowboys right now!

Didn't have any issue dropping 32 on the great cards D last year without crabs.

Just because he has trouble against the Seahawks doesn't mean kap has issues with the cards. He has thoroughly dominated you with or without crabcakes

That was simply because we had the Achilles heel of not being able to defend TEs and you fed it to VD over and over until we finally freed up Gore to take VD out of the game. Did it too late, the damage was done though we'd still have likely won if not for the epic fluke that was Fitz fumbling the ball which he never does. I'm not certain how well we'll cover the TEs this year, hopefully Bucannon helps there but he's probably more of a guy you leave in the box and helps keep our run D at the top of the league. Regardless, our secondary is much improved and pretty damn stacked now on paper (since two are new to the team) so lets see little Kappy throw on us this year! Though I guess it depends if Peterson can defend Crab better...definitely won't throw on us once he's gone, regardless!

Most unique aspect of Colin Kaepernick’s new deal: it contains $12 million in signing bonus, whereas most big QB deals are $24-$40 million.

Colin Kaepernick specifically requested his deal allow 49ers flexibility to negotiate extensions with players such as WR Michael Crabtree.
Word is final two years are non-guaranteed $45m, and at least 50% of each yearly guaranteed amount doesn't kick in until April 1 of that league year.

Essentially makes the deal 5y @ 65m (13m per year) with about ~36m guaranteed. Some of that is likely to only be injury-protected initially.

Packers will never advance in the playoffs with kap standing in their way. I'll always respect kap for coming out sleeveless in -30 degree weather to agitate the white devil packers fans while erron was nice and bundled up with his long sleeve hello kitty shirt for the game. God bless you kap!

I haven't really heard any reports about Ebron coming out of the OTAs. Then again most of the sports press tends to forget the Lions. We need to come out Week 1 on MNF, smash the Giants and send the league a message.

Restore the Roar 2014.

This commissioner guy.... Shitting up the playoff and conference logos. Shitting on the custom Super Bowl logos by replacing it with generic trash. Now fucking with the roman numerals.

Hey, I see if they want to use 50 this one off time because reasons, but at least make it look like something other than shit.

*Opens Panthers' beat writer's OTA impressions*

Reads "Byron Bell and Nate Chandler continued to flip offensive tackle positions, with Bell getting the first nod at left tackle. They struggled to pick up corner blitzes at times as defensive coordinator Sean McDermott goes deeper into his playbook during workouts."

*Shakes head*

Yall better vote for Sherman to win that cover. Madden Curse + Bums on the Offensive Line almost assuredly means Cam gets a serious injury early in the season.

To be fair it would pretty hard to make just an L look good in a logo.

Tom Savage, QB, Houston Texans

Draft position: Round 4, No. 135

Savage sat out 2011 (after transferring to Arizona from Rutgers) and 2012 (after transferring to Pittsburgh from Arizona), and thus was rusty in the early part of last season. Still, he showed outstanding improvement in the second half. He has the ideal size (6-4, 228) for the position and excellent arm strength. What he lacks in athleticism he makes up for with intangibles, including smarts, decision-making and leadership qualities. If he'd gotten on the field more frequently in college, I suspect he'd have been drafted higher. I think he'll outperform veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick and the rest of the quarterbacks in Houston. In fact, it would not surprise me to see Savage become the starter at some point this season, if not in Week 1.

White devil Packer fans. :lol

I liked the Packers until 2010. Now I know how bad that team and fanbase really is.

That was supposed to be our year!

Lol Thacker is such a delusional dipshit asshole. Every thread of his just makes if worse

Best thread I've read in awhile.

Also love Megatron's Visor so much. Looks like Zac Stacy is gonna be wearing a similar one this year. Hyped.
Yes I'm hyped over a fucking visor.
