Same here. Backus wasn't great overall but last year he played well. Huge blow to the line.

Now Detroit has to draft OL, and I worry that Fisher is gone at #5.

Maybe. There's a lot of tackles projected to go second round. Guard is far more shallow. I'm a bit more concerned by the lack of players at DE right now.

The Lions have Reiff, Fox, and Hilliard who can all play tackle, along with Nagy and Austin for guard. I don't really have any idea what to expect from any of them, but they at least exist.

Sucks about Kenny Phillips leaving and going to the Eagles, but it was pretty evident he did not want to return to the Giants. Either because of scheme or the injury situation, he was not coming back. Still, signing just a one year deal shows how much other teams valued him also.

Not really. That guy apparently has a diary of all my posts yet I don't know who he is. Says a lot. His replies were filled with vitriol and bitterness (bringing up post history is always a tell-tale sign of this behavior) and he'll probably remember this exchange for months to come, while it will have left my memory a few minutes after logging off today. Who's the real winner here?
The Lions about 4 times next season.

Carey Williams on if the Ravens offered him a deal:

I think that was pretty damn clear heading into the offseason.

Your verdict on him? Was he average but with upside? Boneheaded?

I guess what worries me most is that both Chung and Phillips are injury prone. If, and its a huge if, they can stay healthy its a huge upgrade.

Maybe I read too much into the inside rumors and reports but I fully expected the Eagles to sign Sean Smith and Goldson. Plus Sean Smith is younger than Cary Williams so it just seemed like the perfect fit.

Still have to trust Chip, Howie, and Gamble at this point. Potential 4 new starters on the secondary already. Still would love a safety in the 2nd. #4 spot is wide open now on who they pick, though I seriously doubt they select Milliner.

The last time we stole someone from the Giants, it didn't work out too well for us.

Well yeah but you guys were crazy to go after him and expect anything. The fucker did score a TD against us.

Phillips hurt because he had so much potential. When fully healthy he is a complete beast, great centerfielder.... but he hasn't been at that level in a while.

SJAX isn't washed up. Doesn't fumble, one of if not the best pass protection RBs, and can catch the ball out of the backfield. What he cannot do is create big plays. He was as much hampered by the Rams OL the past few years as the passing game
And I really think that's all the team expects out of him. Turner was an okay blocker. Quizz was exposed a few times, although he did play well in the two playoff games (saved Ryan's ass on that last drive to win the game against Seattle).

Having a guy SJax's size and ability blocking will be nice. The only thing we were missing last year was a back that could get the last 2 yards when we needed it.

That said, I'd rather have relied on the draft and Quizz, just to guarantee we can get Grimes back.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

Schwartz confirmed Jason Jones is going to play DE and Michael Bennett is apparently visiting soon if he leaves Miami without a contract.

That said, if they go DE in the first and T or G in the second round I'll be ok with that.

I'd even be ok with them taking Warmack at #5.

Iz dat Bob Sanderz? Look at all dem muscles.

I like the S-Jax pick up. He's not washed up like Turner was and is also a threat out of the backfield on passing downs unlike Turner.

Turner's problem was not only was he moving slow, he wasn't reading the holes properly. Many times he would just run right into where everyone was gathered.

If I had a dollar for every time he cutback away from a wide open lane...

Exactly. Or everytime he dropped a checkdown pass from Ryan with no one within 10 yards of him.
His hands actually got better this year. I don't recall any egregious drops for once.

Anyways, I wish Mike well. He did a lot for this team. Had phenomenal years with us. Father time (and Mularkey) weigh down a man.

I thought Grigson killed the draft last year, not just Luck. But some of these move idk. A lot of thesr guys are more name than game. RJF isn't that good

Wait I thought you said you'd be ok with RJF, so I assumed he was actually good. I haven't even heard of him till now to be honest.

Landry is a huge upgrade at SS imo, Zibow was horribad in coverage, just awful. He was a decent tackler at times, but that was all he had going for him.

So the eagles replace namdi wit Cary Williams. Good luck with that. Dez and Hakeem are gonna abuse him twice a year. He might do good against Washington tho he's good against smaller receivers and he has speed.

Expect 5-10 dumb penalties and blown coverage from him per year

Patrick Chung might not be all that great but he just gave one hell of a press conference.

I'm pumped to go out and hit people right about now!

Fletcher didn't even get asked anything. Philly reporters just wanted to know how its like to play for the Patriots and how much it has rubbed off on him. Apparently not much considering his production.

"Broncos SS Quinton Carter was arrested last weekend in Las Vegas on felony charges that he cheated in a casino craps game. Carter was arrested on Saturday night on the accusations that he added money to his bets after the dice had rolled. He has been charged with three counts of fraudulent act in a gaming establishment and faces up to 18 years in prison. Carter, at the time of his arrest, also had a warrant for failure to complete counseling after a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge from 2011. Carter played in just two games last season before a knee injury landed him on injured reserve. "

I read something a while back that said he gave up 45 first downs, second only to Sean Smith who gave up 46.

Cruz was abusing us the past two seasons. DRC and Nnamdi both couldn't tackle.

Cary Williams and Bradley Fletcher both can tackle. After the past 2-3 seasons of guys who can't tackle one bit (including Asante) this is at least a welcome change. At least the safeties are improved. And still expect to draft another CB and S early in the draft.

There were still a few where he'd take his eyes off the ball before he caught it. Even when he did catch it though, took him a while to get going for a 2 yard gain, if that.

If nothing else, I think S-Jax will be a bigger threat in the redzone than Turner was the last couple of seasons.

I really want Grimes back also, but if worse comes to worse what you think about drafting HoneyBadger or maybe McClain starting opposite Samuel?

My concern is really in the front 7.

These dumb kids, don't they realize there are cameras literally everywhere in casinos?

Speaking of Safety's, the Broncos need some, lol.

They're dumber for gambling when rich.

We'll see if that happens here shortly.

Adam Caplan tweeted that its headed that way and then on the Eagles Live show he called in to comment on signing Phillips and Williams and was asked about it again and he said "could happen".

Who knows. A lot of insiders made it seem like Sean Smith and Goldson were almost a sure thing to the Eagles.

So here's who remains on the Steelers from their 2009 draft after Wallace and Lewis signed elsewhere this week:

Round 1: Ziggy Hood
Round 7: David Johnson

Here's who remains from their 2008 draft after Mendenhall and Mundy signed elsewhere this week:

Nobody.

Not to mention three guys from the 2010 draft were busts and Stevenson Sylvester looks to be the 4th wasted pick. 2011 only has one wasted pick so far but 2012 already had two duds along with one cut cause he beats women. One is in limbo cause he drives drunk and runs away from the police and another ripped his knee up so bad that he may never play again. Awesome fucking job Colbert/Tomlin, awesome fucking job.

I've seen enough games to say that Sjax is still definitely dangerous. People who are calling him washed up are crazy.

I liked him as a come in and compete guy. They are paying him front line guy money. He's not that good. SF's front 7 was really diminished w/o Smith in there. I also liked the Walden signing when it was 4m, not 8m. They are paying backups from good teams starter money. Now maybe Grigson and Pagano see upside here, but at a minimum they are paying too much

There's no cap killer, though. No Mario Williams type of deal that will wreck things if it goes bad. Those guys may never be solid starters, but they should at least be rotation guys b/c they are high effort. Still think DL has to be addressed in draft

Wat. First Casey, now Barwin? He didn't have a really good season last year, but thats because they were moving him around and Cushing wasn't there to also bring the heat.

Eagles raiding us like its their job. I wonder if they will come for Schaub maybe?
