I'm going to laugh when the Browns offer Byrd a huge deal, he signs elsewhere, then they reach on Southward in the second or something. I will never, ever stop laughing.

I don't care what you say, I love Jones! Dude is all over the field, he rarely misses tackles, and he is great in coverage. I'm glad they paid the man.

I got no problem with jones, he worked for that pay day. It's paying someone 9 million that isn't a need on a team full of them, but you know dolphins gonna dolphin...

This is the first time I ever talked about it. It popped up as a recommended book for me in Audible on Saturday and since I am traveling this week and just finished two non-fiction books I needed some fiction. No idea what the fuck it is but it looked like some dumb bullshit that Dragon would spank to.

Naturally I bought it on the spot.

Welcome back ez. I missed part of the conversation, so you're reading way of kings? How far are you? WoK is one of my favorite books!!

Haven't really gotten into the book series. I really enjoyed Elantris but Sanderson's writing style seems very distant, his conversation style poor, and his characterizations boring. He writes good magic systems and that can largely carry people through otherwise banal books.

Sanderson is prolific though I'll give him that, he writes a ton of stuff.

Sanderson has made a lot of progress with his writing skill I think. When I think back to his early stuff compared to his work now (WoK, Warbreaker, etc) it feels like he's gotten a lot better. Of course I might be biased because WoK is one of my favorites. Reading Words of Radiance right now actually :p

edit: Just realized I said Warbreaker, I meant to say Steelheart

It should be the fucking Eagles, $9m is nothing for a player like that who can singlehandedly change their defense. But no safeties are not allowed to be picked in the first round, or paid real money. So instead they will get some discount garbage that is barely an upgrade over Chung and allen and then they will wonder why the defense losses them another playoff game next year.

True.

I dont understand how you can call me a Jag fan when you should be a Raider fan.

Well you don't see me wearing a raiders avatar do you?

Ah, I'm with you. I don't know what I was thinking anyway, Jones is getting something like 7 million a year.

Don't get me wrong having byrd would be awesome but for 9 million I'd rather sign soliai or starks (which both seem to be moving on from miami) or getting a LB, but we'll see what phlibin/hickey have planned.

I truthfully don't know what you're on about here. Maybe I'm misunderstanding? Harrison Smith (29th overall) and Kenny Vaccaro (15th overall) were both selected in the first round in the last 2-3 years.

Safeties don't get paid?

That's your top 3 paid safeties in the league. Here's your top 25:

Byrd is essentially asking to be the top paid safety in the league.

Agreed. Thankfully Hickey is the voice of reason in this world of chaos so whatever happens will be the best case outcome.

Under Reid the organizational belief was that safeties are not that important and should never be taken in the first round, also you dont pay them big money and instead put guys like Macho Harris and Quinton Demps out there. It seems like, if the reports are true, that the current people in charge feel the same way. Eagles have $30m in cap room and no safeties and yet supposedly are balking at paying Bryd what he is worth. I do realize that not all teams are this insane when it comes to 2/11ths of their defense.

Too bad Macho never worked out in the NFL. I loved him at VT.

Report: 49ers a darkhorse contender for Michael Vick
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

The best opportunities for free agent Michael Vick are with the Jets and Raiders, but SI.com's Peter King suggests the 49ers as a darkhorse candidate to land the 33-year-old quarterback.

"Let’s say Vick gets only lukewarm interest to start, or to compete for a starting job," King wrote. "If so, and if the Niners want more than a third-string insurance policy for Colin Kaepernick, Vick might be willing to go to try to win a Super Bowl ring. He turns 34 in June."

Vick is fully expected to leave Philly after five seasons with the Eagles.

About a dozen teams interested in T.J. Ward
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

About a dozen NFL teams have expressed interest or inquired about free agent safety T.J. Ward, reports the National Football Post. Ward, 27, made All-Pro last season after recording 123 tackles, 1.5 sacks, two interceptions, a forced fumble and 10 pass breakups with the Browns.

The Lions, Eagles and Cardinals are among the teams believed to be interested.

That's not a specific Reid thing. That's been a pretty consistent philosophy throughout the NFL for decades. Generally teams view college safeties as athletes who failed at other positions and safety is consistently the worst graded group in every single draft class. There just isn't a ton of value in college safeties.

That said, finding a safety is huge, especially since the NFL has evolved to punish two high with multiple tight ends and mobile QB's so look for the pendulum to swing a bit. I think that's why teams are so high on Southward despite his fucking awful college career. Desperation.

Understood.

Pete Carroll and John Schneider had two picks in the first round in their first NFL draft at Seattle, and they used their second one on FS Earl Thomas after using the other on LT Russell Okung.

Priorities.

Remember when they traded a draft pick for Maurice Clarett
