Will somebody please pick Chicago? Joey Harrington doesn't know what it is like to win on the road in the NFL. In his two year career, he has never done it. The franchise itself hasn't done it in three full seasons. Chicago is the correct pick!

Three years! That's longer than the average NFL career!

I'm going back and forth; to me it's really a toss up. Chicago has Ogunleye, but then again, they have (largely) unproven players with Grossman, Tillman, and T. Jones. Detroit has a MUCH improved offense with Williams and Rogers being primary recievers and K. Jones at RB, but Harrington is unproven and they do have that 24 road game losing streak.

However, I believe it'll end in Chicago.

Well, I did pick Seattle to win their division. It's just that I also picked New Orleans to win theirs(my stupid-ass pick of the year, in the spirit of my stupid-ass pick of week 1), and Seattle didn't do all that well on the road themselves last year.

To get it in as early as possible. I won't predict the Superbowl BUT, it's coming down to

Minnesota Vikings/NO Saints vs. Tennessee Titans/Denver Broncos.

Oh yeah coaches who might be on the bubble this season.
Butch Davis, Erickson, Wanny, Schotty
Martz, Cowher, Mike Sherman (surprise swerves)
Tice, Haslett (yes i know what I wrote above)

I predict neither of these teams will be in the superbowl. Actually, I guarantee it.

No, I can't find one :/

BTW, the Charlotte Observer posted this story:

Rodney Peete was an accessory for the Oakland Raiders in 2001. He participated in only one play all season, a handoff. The season before he had not participated in any. His career, which began with Detroit in 1989, appeared to have ended.

But the Carolina Panthers needed a veteran to work with second-year quarterback Chris Weinke. So they plucked Peete from life after football and asked him to spew learned and sage advice while backing up Weinke.

Weinke, however, so frustrated the coaches during the 2002 preseason that Peete was installed as starter. Last season Peete was Jake Delhomme's top back up.

Panther fans ought to remember Peete fondly. And the Panthers ought to cut him before Sunday's 4 p.m. roster reduction deadline.

Peete, 38, is not without value. If Delhomme gets hurt against Green Bay, say, and somebody has to come in for a series, Peete probably is the man to whom the Panthers would prefer to entrust their offense.

But if the Panthers need a quarterback for more than a few minutes, Weinke is, or should be, their choice. He has a better arm than Peete and is more mobile. You are more mobile than Peete. You are more mobile than Peete if you are wearing sandals, boots or heels.

Weinke has had two straight superior preseasons. If he and rookie Keary Colbert aren't Montana and Rice, they are the exhibition game version of Delhomme and Steve Smith.

Weinke has the best arm on the Panthers. If you get to a game early, watch him warm up. Watch the touch he puts on his deep passes. What's held him back has never been his arm.

John Fox's first signature move as head coach was to replace Weinke with Peete. Peete was so rusty at the time that, when he walked off the field, you'd see not sweat but dust. The Panthers, however, didn't want to risk having their offense undoing their defense's good work. Weinke's inability to read a defense cost him his job.

If he has learned to beat a zone while backing up Peete and Delhomme, he deserves to be the top reserve.

Backing up the back up should be Rod Rutherford, the rookie from Pittsburgh. You see his 57-yard pass to Eugene Baker in Thursday's exhibition against Pittsburgh? If Rutherford and Baker are not Delhomme and Steve Smith, they are the fourth-quarter exhibition version of Weinke and Colbert.

Rutherford, 6-foot-2 and 223 pounds, can move and throw, and he was impressive in camp and in practice games. Although he wasn't drafted (there's another Panthers quarterback who wasn't drafted, but I can't remember -- oh yeah, Delhomme) he started three seasons for the Panthers of Pittsburgh.

If Carolina tries to stick Rutherford on the practice squad, it first has to cut him, which means exposing him to 31 other teams. Why risk it? Rutherford is a project, but he's a worthy project.

If the Panthers let Peete go, they shouldn't ask him to bring his playbook. They should bring things to him. I envision heartfelt praise, sincere appreciation and a rocking chair.

I agree. I'd rather have Rutherford on the team, and not expose him to 31 other teams trying to get him on the practice squad. Rutherford looked great this preseason and could in 2-3 years take over Weinke's backup spot.

Turley considers retiring:

Sidelined for this season by a back injury, St. Louis Rams offensive tackle Kyle Turley is considering his options for the future, and among the alternatives is the very real possibility he will retire while still in his 20's.

Kyle Turley
Turley

After weeks of seeking opinions from several back specialists, the 28-year-old Turley has been apprised that he likely will require a second operation to return to the field. Friends and confidants have said he is discouraged by the prognosis.

Turley underwent March surgery by a Los Angeles specialist to repair a herniated disc. But he herniated the same disc, either early in training camp or just before it, and he also has a bulging disc just above the original injury. The Rams placed Turley on injured reserve last Saturday, thus ending his 2004 season.

A six-year veteran, Turley is uncertain about the second surgery and, even if he goes forward with the operation, it is likely he could not return to the field again until midway through the 2005 season. Sources close to Turley said Friday that he is not yet mentally prepared for the rigors of such a lengthy rehabilitation.

They also noted that there are no guarantees the operation would permanently correct his chronic back problems. At this point, Turley is still exploring various methods of relief, largely non-surgical options, just so he can have some degree of comfort.

"There's the quality of life after football," Turley said earlier this week. "I want to be able to pick up my kids when I'm 40 years old and carry them around."

After experiencing recurring back pain less than a week into camp, Turley rested for several days and was somewhat optimistic that epidural injections might permit him to make it through the season. The back problem, however, was more serious than he and Rams officials anticipated.

It will be interesting to see, should Turley opt for retirement, whether the Rams try to recover a prorated share of the $10 million-plus signing bonus they awarded him after acquiring the former San Diego State star from New Orleans in a March 2003 trade. St. Louis sent the Saints a second-round draft choice in the deal. On injured reserve, Turley will still count $2.36 million against the St. Louis salary cap for this season.

The loss of the strongside tackle is a devastating blow, given that the sometimes-controversial blocker was supposed to afford the Rams, along with Orlando Pace, one of the NFL's premier tackle tandems. Pace, who is designated a franchise player, has missed all of training camp and the preseason and has yet to report to the team.

A first-round pick in the 1998 draft, Turley had missed only one game in six seasons, starting in all 95 of his regular-season appearances through last year. Until the herniated disc, he had been a model of durability.

I agree with that article too Bowser. Peete did a great job in 2002 helping us go 7-9. I'd love to see him be a QB Coach for us. But the roster spots should go to Weinke and Rutherford.
