No need, if they make the Superbowl, (a few months after the Red Sox winning the world series), then the world will DEFINATELY implode.

Your Super Bowl record is no worse than ours! :p

I guess there should be some comfort in having a winning team most years, but then again I doubt Atlanta Falcon fans have their hearts broken by their team every year. I just am too attached to my football team to be healthy, it's my own fault. :D It's funny, I've been a Viking fan for 20 years, and it seems like every year we start off 7-2 and finish 9-7 with a first round playoff exit. Every year I'm naively optimistic that this is going to be the year we win it all, only to be crushed. All the Vikings fans I've met that are under 30 years old are the same way, and all the fans I've met that are 40 or older are complete pessimists about our team. I guess time as a diehard Vikings fan just hardens the heart.

We can be up by 20 in the 3rd Quarter, and without fail my old man will say in his best Eyore voice "don't worry, we'll fuck it up yet". We usually do. Hell, in 1998 when we went 15-1 and were blowing people out by 30 pts every game I heard the same thing. "It's not going to happen, we'll fuck it up somehow." And we did.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. If there's gonna be any crying and whining here, it will be from the lifelong Jets fan, thankyouverymuch. I mean, how in the hell can we ever win? Broadway Joe sold his soul to the devil for that ring and now we're cursed for all eternity. The very mention of the name "Kotite" makes thousands projectile vomit. The Fake Spike was another level of Hell too terrifying for even Dante to wax eloquent on. Now, it may seem that we've excorcised the demons in the last few years, but there's one unholy minion still holding us back:

We call him Paul Hackett.

I just figured out why the Texans have been losing all of these games. Before this season...the Stadium security and team decided to ban....

erickson gone? according to 49ersnews.com. hopefully this is true. we need to start fresh next year.

on a related subject, the bills will lose next week against the niners. ken dorsey is going to tear that weak ass buffalo defense up like kleenex at a snot party :D adios bills, your season was courageous at a time

p.s. niners dismantle the skins this weekend. be sure to watch ladies, it will be your last chance to see ken dorsey as a "normal" QB on national TV. when you see him next year, he will be some type of half human half beast hybrid. i feel sorry for the nfl

Remember how and where he got hurt. Heinz field leaves no prisoners!

People really don't understand how horrible the field at Heinz is, which is why I laugh at people who think someone is going to light up Pittsburgh for 40 points there. You can't do that timing shit and finesse on a field that horrible, you either have to run it down someone's throat or get a one on one and hope your man is better.

Rams had good success with their timing passing game last year at heinz, in the rain no less. 33 points, 350+ yards passing :lol
Pats or Colts could do it too imo.

soulja how do you feel about the fact that the only difference between the rams and 49ers this year is that we're going to have a top 5 draft pick to show for our awful year and you wont? :D

erickson is staying in sf. I'm glad, I think that all former Miami HCs are completely overrated. That said, I don't think a Serpentor-style supercoach, produced from the DNA of Lombardi, Walsh, Rockne, and Landry would do much better with the 49ers current roster.

rams may have played shitty (keep up the good work!) but even if 49ers get first pick in draft their talent won't be on par with them.

pfft, rams only beat us by 10 points and we have mostly 3rd and 4th string guys starting on defense. we also had a terrible o-line, a rb with no heart and a qb that was 75% healthy at best. best of all we're only going to get better, while the rams will be considerably worse (leonard little will get a one year suspension from the NFL when it is discovered that scumbag was driving drunk again). go ahead and have your good times at our expense now, i guarantee in 2 years we will be tops in the NFC again. we will definitely compete next year as well.

Everyone had success passing the ball on the Steelers over the last two years. Our corners were incredibly bad. I am really impressed with the Steelers secondary this year, and it was out of nowhere. I stand by what I said, no one is going to move the ball with a timing pattern on this Steelers defense on Heinz field in January. Doesn't mean you can't dink it down the field, but it will be very hard to get big yards on timing route like you can indoors.

On a side note, which team do you all think has the best defense in the league. As I see it the Steelers and Jets have the best two defenses followed closely by the Raven and Redskins (in that order). Ravens were probably number one before that collapse at home, they can redeem themsevles this Sunday against the Colts.

Doesn't matter, york is your owner and erickson is your coach :lol

Martz is actually a good coach imo, but a horrible GM. If he concentrates solely on coaching, the rams will be better.

We "only" beat you guys by 10 points with CHRIS "INTERCEPTION" CHANDLER lmao. You should have won that game for all intents and purposes :lol

I'm surprised you feel that way.

Well he could be an even better offensive coordinator. But i actually watch/follow st louis rams football. I know martz is a good coach, i dont simply repeat all the shit sailsbury or tom jackson say on TV like most people do.

The ESPN crew makes more excuses for Eli Manning then they do for Farve when he loses. Kid better start out with some wins next year or he is going to be run out of New York. Everyone seems to blame Eli's problems on the rest of the Giants, and yet they seem to play better without him. I don't really think it is all Eli's fault, Coughlin decided to throw Eli in against the best defenses in the NFL was one of the worst coaching decisions of the year. But still, even with that Eli has looked pretty godawful in the two games I have seen.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Dick Lebeau returned this season right? I think that's a big difference.

Bionic,

the improvment was not out of nowhere if Lebeau returned this season.

I'd argue for the skins having the best defense, since it has been cripled by its offense for 98% of the season.

Lebeau is a stud, but I was referring to the play of our secondary. The difference between the last few years and now is amazing.

Eh, for whatever reason I put Washington behind the AFC teams, maybe it is my natural disdain for the NFC in general.

Yes, plenty. Like I said I gotta give it up to the AFC teams this year.

Damn, it literally made me sad seeing Brunell play like he did. He is one of my favorite players, not a good way to see him end his career.

Yep, out with Tim Lewis and his non-pressure schemes. Out with Dewayne Washington, great run support corner, but a soft one on one cover guy. Out with the super slow Brent Alexender at safety and Mike Logan gets demoted on the depth chart...plus, he's on IR now anyway. The upgrade in speed with Polomalu and Hope at the safey positions combined with Dick's blitz packages and a more stable cover corner like Townsend has done wonders. The pressure from Smith, Porter, Haggans, and Harrison up front has helped immensely too.

We have been getting burned with the blitz on 3rd down the last 2 weeks. I can't really complain that much because we won, but there were times it seeemd the O-line knew exactly where the blitz was coming from and picked it up. I am still confident they will have some new tricks in time for the playoffs.

Obviously the steelers defense has impoved, that was beside my point tho. He mentioned that it was "impossible" to run a timing and rythm offense at heinz field because of the shitty turf.

It's not impossible, the rams have done it, the colts can do it as well imo.

Few things about that though....the D giving up 268 to Leftwich was great line play by the Jags , great throws by Leftwich, and a steeler D that was on the field longer than in any other game because the Steeler O was not controlling the clock. Plus, take away Foote's blown coverage on Yoder's lone 56 yarder and the Jags would be at 212 passing yards and 1 TD.....not bad when you've been thoroughly dominated in time of possession.

I didn't have much of a problem with the way the D played last week, Martin held to under 80 and a 3 yard average, Pennington to under 190 throwing and 3 picks, 2 of which were great, great plays by Polomalu and Farrior.

I think you're right, the sacks have been down the last two weeks. I agree that Dick prolly has a few wrinkles hidden yet, but the key is that at times there was still pressure on both Leftwich and Pennington. Didn't result in sacks, but was pressure nontheless....last year I had to sit and watch QBs just have all day to stand back there and pick apart the D.

Division II championship was last saturday, as was the heisman ceremony. Both were televised.

The Heisman occured at 8:00 pm.....

Division 2? Come on, you've got to be kidding me. Pittsburg state vs. Valdosta State, yep, that audience will surely eat into an NFL game. :lol

Division 3 is this saturday, tell the NFL they better cancel. :lol

lol. I know my theater professor was probably screaming for joy (he used to teach at Valdosta State). With Georgia Southern and Valdosta State, it seemed inevitable that Georgia would win Division II one way or another.

Just out of curiousity, when did the Steelers play the Rams last year? The turf gets exponentially worse at Heinz as the season goes on. I mean it was barely green last week (still only December). And this isn't just diehard Steeler fan B.S., you can see postgame quotes from opposing players saying how much they hate the field at Heinz.

Obviously it is possible to run the offense, but imho I don't think it is possible to run it as efficiently on a shitty turf in the cold as you can indoors. I believe both the Rams in their prime and the Colts of this year both perform much better on the track then they do outside. And my point all along is that Heinz field is so shitty that it doesn't even qualify as a normal field of play so I believe to move the ball teams have to make an adjustment to include the field condition into their game plan.

WTF? Burress didn't practice today? Just the other day he said he was 95% and would be really surprised if he didn't play on Sunday, now he doesn't practice? Damn, how long does it take for a minor hamstring injury to heal? It has been a month now.....

No joke.

Krenzel's response when asked "So, how does it feel to be 3-0 as a starter?" :
"What, me? I'm not 3-0. My defense is 3-0"

He won the games because of defensive TDs and a punt return for a TD by McQuarters. That's all.

Ken Griffey Jr. is working on a hamstring injury for about 6 years running. I say we sit Burress just to be safe until he's needed. Then again, Lee Mays needs to be stopped.

Saturday, Dec. 18 -

Pittsburgh at N.Y. Giants, 1:30 p.m.
Washington at San Francisco, 5:00 p.m. (...Seriously now. Didn't somebody say that the division II championship was last week?)
Carolina at Atlanta, 8:30 p.m. (They won the division, are missing a FB and a HB, and the team plays like shit every few weeks anyway)

Sunday, Dec. 19 -

Buffalo at Cincinnati, 1:00 p.m. (There's a good chance Buffalo wins out...I don't want that to happen, but I'm being realistic here)
Dallas at Philadelphia, 1:00 p.m. (Philly won thanks to Patrick Ramsey last week, won't need his help here)
Denver at Kansas City, 1:00 p.m. (Go LJ!)
Houston at Chicago, 1:00 p.m.
Minnesota at Detroit, 1:00 p.m.
San Diego at Cleveland, 1:00 p.m.
Seattle at N.Y. Jets, 1:00 p.m.
New Orleans at Tampa Bay, 4:05 p.m.
St. Louis at Arizona, 4:05 p.m. (Oh, I'm sorry. This must be the division II championship)
Jacksonville at Green Bay, 4:15 p.m.
Tennessee at Oakland, 4:15 p.m.
Baltimore at Indianapolis, 8:30 p.m. (Will be somewhat close. Or it could be a blowout. It's just going to be one of those nights)

Monday, Dec. 20 -

New England at Miami, 9:00 p.m.

True, set up by Vick no doubt...but yeah...with Duckett possibly being out for the game maybe the rest of the season, Vick has to step up and so does Dunn. They are focusing on taking away Crumpler and forcing Vick to make 2nd and 3rd receiver reads. The D will play hard, we just need to score, and score early.

i really dunno who to risk my money on this week...Carolina covering the 3.5 point spread against the favored falcons, or the colts winning by 8+.

I'm really thinking Carolina right now...but in ATL they could as easily lay an egg as easily as the colts O can put up 40 on the ravens.
