Guys I came into this thread for some good clean hockey fun, not mindless smut and pornography. Some of us are at work with children around.

This article shows some D guys that have posted Schultz-like stats in the NCAA in the past few years. Alot of average guys. What makes this guy special?

A lot of average guys? That's a pretty good list.

It does highlight the fact that people shouldn't overstate what impact this guy will have in his first season. Doesn't change the fact that he should be highly coveted.

I actually agree with the article that he would be better off in Edmonton. Greater promise of ice time and much less pressure. Here's hoping he chooses Vancouver anyhow.

Is that Colby Armstrong?

$5 mil a year for Quick would be awesome. So I guess that means Bernier is going somewhere fo' sho. Kings could still put in a good offer for Parise!

Lebrun just said on TSN that Schultz could fit into any teams top 4 on defense right away. Seems to be stretch for a kid who hasn't played a single NHL game, but I haven't seen him play.

Probably a modified top 4 role with plenty of powerplay time.

16 min ev + 3 min pp + 1-2 min sh = 20-21 mine toi

I'm game for Bergevin to bring Latendresse back on a 1 year deal so he can prove what he has in him.

The Hitchcock Effect.

I just saw a tweet that mentioned the NHL is considering capping contract length at 6 years. Wonder how they'd handle the just revealed Quick and Crosby deals then.

They'd be grandfathered in.

Why would they need to limit contracts to 6 years? Just don't offer contracts that big.

If its about cap evasion, change the formula how cap hit is calculated for long term deals, they did something after Kovalchuk.

Quick needs to fire his agent if he's getting less than Bryzgalov per year.

Most GM's would probably approach that meeting like this:

Agent: My client clearly is better than Bryz, and look at the money he makes. That should be our starting point.
GM: That contract was negotiated by Paul Holmgren. I'm neither that stupid or desperate. How about we come back to reality?

Then they share a good laugh and start to bargain like normal people.

Pretty much, no one uses Gomez' contract as a starting point.

Bob McKenzie's Twitter said:
There's talk, none of it official, Price deal will be 6 or 7 yrs long with cap hit north of $6M, perhaps in the range of $6.5M. We'll see.

So assuming Price's contract is $6.5 million for 6/7 years, what do Habs fans think about that deal?

I'd be happy with that at 6 years, I don't really want to see it go longer then 6 though.

It's about saving teams from themselves. It's the same reason the NBA has capped contract amount and length. You can't complain about escalating contracts when you can't sign them anymore.

The league can spin it as leveling the playing field for free agents and whatever.

Leaving aside the deal Snider and Holmgren gave Bryz, Quick is worth 7 million a year if Rinne is. Paying him roughly the same money as Jeff Carter is crazy.

he'll be 37 when the contract expires, giving him 10 years was just a way to keep the cap hit down. im sure it'll be frontloaded as possible when the yearly #s come out

I did the math, based of off what we know from most cap circumvention contracts (Ehrhoff), the real contract underneath is probably a 6-year $45-48 million that has a hit of around $7.5 - 8 million. The last 4 years are almost certainly cap circumvent years.

But yeah. Quick pretty much got paiiiid.

Wild in on the Schultz short list. YESSSSSS
:lol He's not going to the Wilds.
