Larry Murphy playing D is the same as playing O for the other team. ;-)

You know, we can also get Ed Belfour and even Tom Barrasso.

Hell, even Olaf Kolzig, though I don't think he ever dressed as a Leaf.

"In the deal, announced by Penguins general manager Craig Patrick, the Capitals get Jagr and defenseman Frantisek Kucera, and send Kris Beech, Michal Sivek, Ross Lupaschuk to Pittsburgh.
Patrick said he was delighted with the players Pittsburgh received.
He called Beech the key to the deal and a potential franchise player whose skills are similar to former Penguins great Ron Francis.
Before the deal, the New York Rangers were believed to be the front runner to obtain Jagr. However, Patrick said he was never satisfied with any of the offers made for Jagr until talks with the Capitals became serious "within the last day or so.""

LOOOOOL.

I wouldn't be surprised if somehow he was there, I know Ozzy is going to play, I guess they are announcing the lineup sometime this afternoon. Maybe they'll even have Lindsay and Howe playing!! :p

I can see into the future!!!

Red Wings

Chris Chelios
Dino Ciccarelli
Alex Delvecchio
Kris Draper
Gordie Howe
Mark Howe
Joe Kocur
Ted Lindsay
Kirk Maltby
Darren McCarty
Larry Murphy
John Ogrodnick
Chris Osgood
Mickey Redmond
Luc Robitaille
Mike Vernon

Seeing as how that is the only partial lineup right now, still holding out hope that Yzerman, Federov, Lids, and even Hull might join. Nice to see Robitaille on their, didn't expect that and we get to see the grind line together again. :D Oh and maybe even Shanny, that would be sweet.

Edit: It looks like there will be 2 alumni games now since there is a ton of players that they want to add, sweet!

Igor Larionov is also confirmed.

Great lineups already, and so many names left they could add. Sundin has to play, and I can't imagine Lidstrom not participating. Cool that Gordie is on there, even just seeing him in a Red Wings jersey on the bench would be amazing.

The Professor!

I'm more excited for the alumni games than the actual game right now.

Is anyone going to sign Andrei Kostitsyn?

I guess not, there are still some noteworthy players who haven't been signed besides Semin and Doan now that I come to think about it.

Who in here has actually skated with Gordie Howe?

*Raises hand with smug look on face*

Who here played with Gordie Howe's grandson in Squirt and actually was friends with him and had Gordie come to one of our games as well and talk to us after the game and so on. That's what I thought.

I was on the ice with him. ON THE ICE. WITH THE LEGEND. :p

That's about as far as my NHL celebrity stuff goes.

My younger brother played against Justin Abdelkader in the MHSAA state tournament, but I wouldn't call him a celebrity. My older brother played minor league hockey but all I can remember is Ed Belfour coming to their practice once.

I was at a Mickey Redmond Development camp a long time ago and I know that he was there with Ted Lindsay I believe. I skated with Redmond but don't believe Lindsay or Howe was on the ice. I also had a development camp with Brett Hull's brother as well and he gave us all autographed pictures of Brett which was cool. I also have a ton of other stuff I have done but I don't have the time to type that all out, it would look like a Soc post minus it trying to prove another member wrong.

Huselius has taken penalty shots at me, It was ridiculous he was bouncing the puck on the stick from the blueline.

I have met a lot of other Swedish NHL stars too, but I have no stories that I can think of.

Bruce Driver used to play men's league with my dad sometimes.
...as a goalie

None of my other hockey player stories really involve playing with the guys. A few came on ice at hockey camps when I was younger and I met a few guys at the hockey store I used to work at cuz we made authentics for them to sign and give away as xmas presents.

So out of Leafs-GAF and Wings-GAF do you think any of us will actually win the "random" draw to be able to purchase tickets to the winter classic?

Hoping I do. At the same time, I might not even have the money since I may go on another trip around that time.

I for one, look forward to Mikael Samuelsson's appearance on 24/7. With any luck, he'll get snubbed by Sweden again for some reason or another.

Nice to see we're dumpster diving to get a shoot out specialist. This stat was pretty eye opening on how overrated Nash is.

@BSH_EricT: Wolski even str Pts/60 last 5 yrs: 2.54, 1.52, 2.78, 2.04, 1.77. $600k. Nash: 2.01, 2.67, 1.92, 2.84, 1.89. $7.8M

I know you're a Hawks fan and all, but really? That and Crosby's Olympic winning goal are two of the most anti-climatic goals ever.

We started celebrating but all I could think was man the hawks are gonna go down as the biggest bunch of crumbums if that didn't go in and they lose this game

The latest Red Wings report at Mlive is about Holmstrom and about how he'll decide next week about his playing/retiring.

If they bring him back I...I don't even know what to say.

Yeah, I wasn't sure of what happened at first but then when they showed it was a goal I pretty much did this in my living room:

One aspects revealed by Nash's list of "approved" destinations -- Boston, Detroit, the New York Rangers, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and San Jose -- it's that he'd rather play for his country than in his country. Not one of Canada's seven NHL franchises made the list, including the club Nash grew up worshipping, the Toronto Maple Leafs. What does that say?

Sigh...

Please don't do anything stupid Homer.. please.. PLEASE.

I was talking to my dad today and I figured out what I think the Flyers motto should be at this point: "Matt Read and a 1st"

That's officially what I think the upper limit should be on dealing for Homer. If he can't get a player that he thinks improves the team for "Matt Read and a 1st" then just back away and stick with what we've got. There's realistically nobody in the league that we can get that wouldn't require a massive overpayment or that would be an overall detriment to the team's future. If we can't get the guy for Read and a 1st the deal probably isn't a net positive for the Flyers in terms of long term cap stability with all the young guys we have. Supposedly we're in talks for Bouwmeester.... who has a cap hit over 6m. With that kind of cap hit I stand by my motto. Other than that he can make an offer to Doan, and roll the dice with what we've got. If close to the deadline we're sellers then he can reassess the situation then.

More likely what will happen is we'll trade Couturier and Voracek for Nash and I'll die a little inside.

Agreed, Matt Read is a perfect example of sell high, his value is probably the highest it will ever be right now. I don't think he'll duplicate what he did last season.

And Jay-Bo too? Ugh.. no thanks. Not worth it with that cap hit.

If they trade Couturier I will flip my shit, especially if it is for an over-paid aging Rick Nash.

HUGE NEWS:

Eklund reporting:

Reports Glendale has rejected Tax initiative..definitely puts the future of Coyotes in doubt, and more immediately Doan likely on to market...

More to come

Not sure where he's getting the news. Latest published reports say the signatures are turned in tomorrow.

Edit: UPDATE

Can't even access the webpage any more. Preemptive reporting?

Edit 2: Looks like he took it down.

Classic Eklund.

They can't reject it until the election this fall. I'm not sure what he's babbling about.
