I think our GM wanted Gilroy out of college before NYR go him, but so far it seems he hasn't lived up to the billing.

Although players signed out of college usually take a few years to adjust to the NHL, so probably too soon to tell.

Yeah I didn't think there would be any interest in Gilroy. He makes a ton of mistakes in the defensive end. He can move the puck and every once and awhile will do something terrific you don't expect of him, but otherwise, he's usually a liability.

However, I will say part of his troubles this season have likely been because we've needed him to be a top 4 defenseman because of all our injuries and lack of depth. If he ends up being a bottom-pairing D in Ottawa, he might be alright.

Winnik is a great grit player and PKer, Galiardi... he has his moments, but he can also be a huge defensive liability. Depends on the night. Gali has been a healthy scratch for a lot of the season.
