Impressive, dont see this continuing in the elimination rounds though.

LOL did you get that from Desi? I'm both terrified and in love with it...

It was posted during one of the After Hours sessions already, I just remembered it and felt like it was "appropriate" :lol

I'd consider beating one of Sweden/Czech/Canada a fluke, but beating all three? I WANT TO BELIEVE. We've never been bad. We're usually top8, behind the obvious ones, I hope this year we can break into the top4.

France beat Russia at the Worlds. WTF.

Wat.

Mark Scheifele scored four times during Barrie's five-goal third period, as the Colts bounced the London Knights 6-4 in Game 4 of the Ontario Hockey League final on Wednesday.

The win puts Barrie a win away from its second-ever Memorial Cup appearance, as it takes a 3-1 series lead.

"It was a good third period for us," said Scheifele, whose Colts trailed 3-1 after 40 minutes. "We really put it together."

"In that second intermission, we said that we had to buckle down, take this opportunity, and it took a team effort to get that win."

Scheifele, who had three goals and two assists in Monday's victory, also picked up an assist, and has 39 points in 19 post-season contests

But really a high first rounder like him, if he wasn't dominating in his last year of major junior eligibility it'd be a concern. But still, nice to see.

Oh, and fuck off Lawless:

NO one but GM Kevin Cheveldayoff and members of his inner circle know how the Winnipeg Jets feel about their coach Claude Noel right now. But if Alain Vigneault finds himself on the street in the coming days, the mystery may end.

Cheveldayoff needs to determine whether Noel has overachieved with a subpar roster or held back his team with poor coaching. At this point, the answer is not clearly evident.
Roll fucking eyes at all of it.

His writing drives me crazy. It's his painful attempts to seem like an insider and a reliable predictor combined with his weaseling writing style. It all reads like: "Does anybody know? Nobody really knows, but I'm going to throw out something and act like I know what I'm talking about."

Question: Is there any chance Luongo will be part of this team in the fall? "It's unlikely"

Yeah sure.

I was shocked when he couldn't stay up with the big club this past season.

How do you feel Gillis has handled the Luongo situation in it's entirety Socreges? We talked about it when you were banned, I'm curious what your thoughts are on it.
Without knowing what teams have offering for Luongo, I can't say that Gillis has necessarily done anything wrong. You've got half the detractors saying Luongo is practically impossible to trade, while the other half is saying that Gillis should have traded him by now. Why aren't those people ever arguing with each other?

Fact is that if he was going to get jack in return, I was always happy with him holding onto Luongo for the remainder of the season and trying to find a more stable solution (ie, that would include a competent backup) in the offseason. Luongo is a big boy. A big boy with a big contract that gets paid very well. Players get traded to places they don't want to go to when they least expect it, and have to deal with that. Some players with massive contracts and NTCs who have particular wants don't get traded when they want to go, and also have to deal with that. It's the nature of the business and I've always found it peculiar that certain people have taken such a vested interest in his emotional status - occasionally the same people that used to trash him for being a head case.

2 first round exits after choking in the final round isn't a great job, and having one of the best teams in the leagues for this long with 2 #1 goalies isn't a difficult situation. Gillis should get the boot along with AV.
Losing in Game 7 of the SCF with a team that has several injuries (both to players on and off the ice) is "choking"? I know you're not the first to frame it this way, but it always surprises me.

Used to be that Luongo was the one that choked. But now he's the sympathetic non-Canuck.

And I'd say AV was in a difficult situation, given the media circus surrounding Luongo.

That said, it's difficult to place the blame on any one thing, but firing AV should be a priority. Regardless of whether it's him or the team that faltered, or some mix of both, the team needs a new take on things.

I don't see much reason for Gillis to be fired. He's put great teams on the ice. I don't blame him for the Luongo contract since it was done under a different CBA, but I still think he could have done better with the Hodgson trade. That said, again, maybe firing Gillis would bring a fresh look. But I'm willing to give him more time on a short leash.

I would consider losing to the Bruins after being up 2-0 as a #1 overall team and only scoring as many goals as they did choking. I think Gillis has really messed up, but your point on Lu and how people have changed their opinions on villifying him to making him a victim because of a few tweets is amusing and true. An interesting point Gillis made today was that the landscape of the game has changed in the past few years (referring to playing style) and that they recognize this and will address it.

- Canucks weren't built to take on a physical goon squad team like the Bruins, maybe they used the wrong tactics as well dunno.
- Playoffs are about matchups, certain teams matchup better than others.
- Thomas was practically unbeatable that year, can't fault them too much for not scoring.
- Regular season success does not necessarily translate into postseason success.

Gillis has been on repeat since 2011. Our weaknesses then, are our weaknesses now. Along with a fresh coat of new ones.

It actually has more to do with the Canucks having a much more physical path to the SCF than the Bruins, facing the Hawks and Preds. Hamhuis got injured in Game 1 (trying to hip check Lucic), Rome got suspended at the beginning of Game 3, and for the rest of the series the team leaned on a top4 that was pretty much limping at that point. Bieksa, Edler and Salo were all playing hurt. I can't remember if Ehrhoff was healthy or not. Kesler was also hurt, of course, and his defensive play had been a big part of the Canucks' success.

Erhoff revealed after the season he was playing with a bad shoulder. He ended up leading the team in D scoring but also had the worst +/-. Also, Malhotra didn't play that year until game 2 of the SCF

Everybody gets beat up a bit in the playoffs the longer it goes but we took a lot of damage. Having Kesler back for a prolonged period would be nice.

Manny was kinda worthless at that point, to be fair. He wasn't the same after the injury and was mostly marched out for a morale boost.

He still won faceoffs though, something we've kinda struggled with ever since. Not just against the Sharks this series.

Yeah, but wasn't he basically just the faceoff specialist? His final % was basically even but I vaguely remember him having a few lockdown games. But you're right, he wasn't really in a position to be productive otherwise.

EDIT: 2012 was a frustrating year but Quick was legit once-a-career unbeatable. The last ten years or so has shown you tend to beat those goaltenders by smothering the team in front of them late in the playoffs when everyone is gassed. In the first round it's pretty damn hard.

He was extremely sheltered with who he faced, and in the game that he wasn't he went 30%.

Hear that Bruins faithful? No Boston players were hurt at all in the 2011 playoffs. Only Vancouver was playing wounded. That's why they lost.

I'll respond to this later when I can give it a proper response.

Farhan Lalji said today on radio that Toronto offered Vancouver two 2nd round picks and Scrivens for Lu at the deadline for what it's worth.

Cats prospect Vince Trocheck named OHL player of the year. Amazing year for the kid. Gold at WJCs, OHL scoring title and now player if the year. His next year in the AHL will really set his future in the org but so far is playing far and away above where he was drafted.

I'm really interested to hear whats wrong with Pacioretty, he has been the same for a long time now.

Positives and players on the upswing and who should continue to get better and should be kept:

Eller, Galchenyuk, Gallagher, Subban, Tinordi, Emelin, Diaz, Pacioretty, Price, Dumont Prust.

Players that are neutral but still good / could be traded : Gorges, Plekanec, Bourque

Players on the decline that need to go : Gionta, Moen, White, Bouillion, Weber, Ryder

Good news is the following will all probably see a call up next year, and can make the NHL next season or the season after:

Leblanc, Bealieu, Bournival, Holland, Kristo, Ellis.

I'm quite confident that Bergevin will use the teams strength of D prospects to move up in the draft, or even move Pleks to get a great pick.

In an ideal world, I'd like to see the following lineup next season:

Pacioretty - Eller - Bourque
Big UFA / traded player - Galchenyuk - Gallager
Prust - Bournival - Kristo
Moen - Dumont - White / UFA

Subban - Gorges
Markov - Emelin
Diaz - Tinordi

Price
Budaj

It's a lot of rookies but that's the way we need to go. Bergevin has publicly said that he wants to move forward with a youth movement, and he wants to the team to get bigger and grittier, so I expect him to address that this off season. I would dump Markov if possible, he started off great, but he's terrible 5 on 5 and is a turnover machine now.

Team has 3 second rounders, and if they can ship off any of Gionta, Plekanec, Moen, Gorges, Markov, they could do even better. Timmins should be able to hit another home run, and we already have the pillars of a cup team with superstar center, defenseman and goalie already in the lineup.
