I have a feeling this is all going to blow up in the coyotes face pretty badly.

If they weren't violating state law... they probably wouldn't be freaking out so badly. They're going to be bent over because of their own dumbassery and they deserve it.

Edit:
yay there's an archive!

HOLY FUCKING SHIT

So according to Jim Matheson, from The Edmonton Journal, the Stars are shopping Lehtonen. Fucking YES! Now the problem is... who the fuck wants to pick up such a ridiculously expensive contract for such a subpar goalie.

Anyone? I'll include a blowjob and a copy of the script I've been working on if necessary

I'm crossing my fingers that the court denies an injunction

the one thing im finding funny is the temporary restraining order
If the injunction is denied I'd laugh my ass off.

"we're gonna sue for a couple 100M in punitive damages"
This one I found hilarious. The Coyotes have already been accused of underpaying Glendale by misreporting income/fees/etc. There was an audit recently about this deal and all of a sudden Glendale is trying to get out of this. Pretty easy to see whats going on.

If the Coyotes sue, they're going to have to open up said books and I doubt they want to do that.

Christopher Lee was the best. I still find it amazing that he was acting until the end. Ian McKellen nailed the part of Gandalf, but I still would have loved to see Lee's performance in the role.

http://www.factfiend.com/brilliant-way-christopher-lee-got-peter-jacksons-attention/

while filming a scene in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, in which his character, Saruman was supposed to stabbed in the back, Peter Jackson began coaching Lee on the sound a man makes when he’s stabbed to death. Lee, very calmly stopped Jackson and informed him that he was well aware how a man reacted upon being stabbed from first hand experience.

Was speculation on Leafs Lunch, they literally came up with that exact same scenario as a hypothetical on the spot the day before, do yourself a favour and stop listening to Blundell.

I'm on the road at 5:30am to avoid Toronto traffic. Can't avoid him :(

Yea a good 2nd line centre on a one year deal at 6 million who will likely demand 8mil next year and a 10th overall pick vs. a chance to draft a franchise centre/defencemen at 4, man seems so fair!

A chance to being the key word. O'reilly sure as shit isn't a only a second line center either. Especially not on the Leafs. He is continually at the top of the league in takeaways and is only 24.

Yea and I'd much rather gamble on Marner/Strome turning into 1st line centres then I would having and overpaid O'Rielly on the first line, sorry.

I really don't care, I'd rather the Avs re-sign O'reilly. I just find it funny you wouldn't do the Phaneuf one, speaking of overpaid players...I'd rather have an overpaid O'reilly than an overpaid Phaneuf.

Or how about losing him to UFA?

ROR somehow keeps getting so overvalued, it's ridiculous

I'd rather dump Phaneuf any other way then have to give up the 4th pick to do it
We had a deal for him at the deadline, he is certainly not immovable.

New Pronman post, "Ranking the 2015 NHL draft class by top skills"

While fans understandably get caught up in the rankings of players on a “Big Board” in terms of their slotted position relative to other prospects, most scouting involves rating of a different kind. Rating and identifying the strengths and weaknesses of players in different sets of specific skills is the heart of scouting.

As such, heading into the NHL draft you will often see that teams will agree on the merits of a player’s abilities in different areas, but they value particular abilities differently. Some want fast players, others wants smart ones, and others want a guy who is going to win board battles. As a fun exercise, this column displays the top 2015 NHL draft prospects ranked by their abilities in six key areas.

Top 10 skaters

1. Connor McDavid, C

2. Noah Hanifin, D

3. Kyle Connor, LW

4. Travis Konecny, C

5. Jack Eichel, C

6. Mathew Barzal, C

7. Oliver Kylington, D

8. Zach Senyshyn, RW

9. Denis Guryanov, LW

10. Daniel Sprong, RW

McDavid is on a level of his own, as he usually is, in this area. He’s the only player I’ve seen that has caused a fellow scout I sat next to at a game yell “He gone” when he got a step on a defenseman. I don’t think Barzal has the pure speed of the rest of the players on this list, but his agility and edges are clearly the best; if he gets an inch of space from a standstill, you can’t check him. Guryanov is a power forward with his size and how well he skates north-south and challenges defenders to keep him in front. Sprong has an electric element to his game with how well he gets through the neutral zone.

Top 10 puck skills

1. Connor McDavid, C

2. Jack Eichel, C

3. Mitch Marner, C

4. Mathew Barzal, C

5. Evgeni Svechnikov, LW

6. Travis Konecny, C

7. Dylan Strome, C

8. Daniel Sprong, RW

9. Jeremy Bracco, RW

10. Nick Merkley, RW

The top four in this area are not too far apart, but there’s a slight-to-moderate gap between each of them before a drop to Svechnikov. McDavid, Eichel, Marner and Barzal can all dance circles around people. McDavid stands out because of how well he handles the puck at full speed. Svechnikov has a real smooth and easy puck handling style, and he makes a lot of difficult plays seem easy.

Top 10 passers

1. Connor McDavid, C

2. Jack Eichel, C

3. Dylan Strome, C

4. Mathew Barzal, C

5. Mitch Marner, C

6. Jeremy Bracco, RW

7. Oliver Kylington, D

8. Travis Konecny, C

9. Zach Werenski, D

10. Denis Malgin, C

The “big two forwards” are actually pushed in this area by Strome, and if you wanted to argue him higher it wouldn’t be considered unreasonable. Bracco’s vision is commonly referred to in glowing terms in the scouting industry. Kylington appearing this high among the top forwards in the class speaks to how gifted a puck mover he is, but this ranking also shows how much he needs to round out his game. Malgin, who probably won’t go in the top two rounds, is a big sleeper in this class, and a player I rate highly.

Top 10 hockey IQs

1. Connor McDavid, C

2. Jack Eichel , C

3. Dylan Strome, C

4. Mitch Marner, C

5. Mathew Barzal, C

6. Lawson Crouse, LW

7. Ivan Provorov, D

8. Travis Konecny, C

9. Anthony Beauvillier, LW

10. Colin White, C

Crouse is often dinged for his lack of production and being a “low upside” guy in discussions I see online, but frankly that’s just not true. He’s a very aware two-way player who makes a lot of good decisions and reads. If one wants to ding his puck skills, that’s a real discussion to have, but the guy can play, and knows how to make things happen. Provorov is such a smooth, quiet player who can flash high-end offensive moments too. His defensive play has shown to be quite advanced at times. White is along the same lines, albeit as a forward. I’ve never been “wowed” by him, but he’s the kind of player who will take tough assignments and end up on the score sheet every night.

Top 10 shots

1. Daniel Sprong, RW

2. Nikita Korostelev, LW

3. Pavel Zacha, C

4. Brock Boeser, RW

5. Paul Bittner, LW

6. Anthony Beauvillier, LW

7. Jack Eichel, C

8. Timo Meier, LW

9. Ryan Gropp, LW

10. Rasmus Andersson, D

Sprong, Korostelev, Zacha, Boeser and Bittner are a top tier for me in this category. They have absolute cannons for shots and can locate too. Sprong has been a real deadly goal scorer in the QMJHL the last two seasons and Korostelev sends goalies into a panic when he winds up a one-timer. Boeser is a big, strong man, and really leans into his shots, utilizing all his strength.

Top 10 physical games

1. Lawson Crouse

2. Brock Boeser

3. Brandon Carlo

4. Erik Cernak

5. Paul Bittner

6. Pavel Zacha

7. Mitchell Stephens

8. Filip Ahl

9. Kyle Connor

10. Gabriel Carlsson

Crouse is a beast -- plain and simple. He’s so big and strong, and uses his frame to win battles, get in lanes and separate players from pucks. He’s a legitimate scoring power forward. Boeser is a different cloth in that he’s a great puck protector. Carlo and Cernak both win a number of battles, although Cernak is more inconsistent with his physicality in that he tries to hit too often and can whiff at times. Guys like Stephens and Connor don’t have the size of others mentioned here, but they work their tails off and get pucks due to their intangibles.

Maaaaan I really want the Jets to draft Sprong now. I'm sure Leafs Nation will be quite pleased with Lawsome "The Beast" Crouse. Future captain?

Does Glendale really have a case?

http://www.foxsports.com/arizona/story/glendale-votes-to-cancel-lease-deal-with-coyotes-061015

"One of the words that they will need to focus on in that statute is the word 'significantly,'" said Rodney Smith, director of the sports law and business program at ASU's Sandra Day O'Connor College of law. "They're going to have to prove that he had a significant level of involvement and I think it will be a very uphill battle for the City of Glendale."

that's what i said yesterday

The only issue would be clarification of the term "significantly" but considering he was advising on changes of verbiage... i don't think the NHL would win if it goes to court.

and people are ignoring the fact it's not just tindall that's part of this. may be assistant city manager julie frisoni. may be the city auditor. we don't know yet. but considering the comments about how they recently found out about this new person... and the fact that tindall's involvement has been known for over a year now... I'd assume the City of Glendale has a lot stronger evidence up their sleeve.

for me, personally... someone significantly involved is anyone who would have direct or indirect ability to alter the contract.

Who knows what evidence Glendale has, I'm sure the mayor did his due diligence, this would be a massive political mistake without having the proper case to stand on.

I don't really have faith that Glendale is actually competent enough to have properly gathered evidence for this, though. At least nothing that we have ever seen them do suggests they have the capability to actually put together a strong case, regardless of whether they're in the right or not. We'll see, though.

Meanwhile, doesn't the Steam sale start in about 5 minutes?

Oh boy, the steam sale is on.

I just built a gaming PC recently. The last steam sale I did was in 2012, and that was just for the games my laptop could run.

I'm not ready.

You guys see the Oculus+Xbone thing?

So stream non-VR games into a VR living room. While actually in your living room.

Yeah. I bet people can't wait. What a silly concept.

It's just streaming a video feed, The xbox isn't receiving motion inputs.

Loooooooool

Only posted in the thread a couple times, but the Coyotes are my favorite team, used to be a partial season ticket holder when I lived there. Been back every year since for at least a couple of games.

Seeing a Coyotes game is great. The center the arena is built in has a great group of restaurants and hotels in easy walking distance. Not a bad seat in the house. (Obviously) plenty of good seats available. But yeah, tough to think they'll ever be able to sell that place out consistently.

It's like if the Stars played their games in Waco. Or if the Sharks played their games in Gilroy. Glendale is so far from the metropolitan Phoenix area that there's no way a person in Scottsdale is going to get their family together and drive the hour in traffic to get out to Glendale in time for the start.

Maybe even if they built a brand new, beautiful rink in Scottsdale it wouldn't work. But at least it would had a chance.

Breaks my heart though. I've had great times at Coyote games over the years, and we've had some great players come through. And it's always interesting wearing Coyote gear to away games. My gf was called a "dirty desert c@$t" at a playoff game in LA, and people in Anaheim just kind of pity us when we show up there wearing Coyote gear.

One Ducks fan ahead of us in line at a concession stand in Anaheim bought us beers at the final game of the 2013 season because he was sure the team was moving (if the Coyotes do move, we'll end up being Ducks fans, probably just because of this guy).

So the vote a couple years back, we thought, gave us at least a few more years to enjoy Doan's sunset. We knew the hockey would be terrible (because of course it would be, they're trying to land a sweet deal to move, and the worse the team is the easier it'll be to move) but to go out like this? This is rough.

I stop by and read what's going on in this thread all the time. And there's a lot of schadenfreude along with legitimate criticism of the team and the situation.

But just like with Atlanta, Winnipeg, Quebec... it always sucks for a big group of people when a team leaves. Good thing that in the desert the air is so dry the tears are whisked away quickly.
