Having two Toronto teams to make fun of would be pretty great. They could trade their bad contracts to each other.

That very well could be, but then they'd have to go back on what they claimed.Though they could always just say, "The process went better than anticipated."
I'll be surprised if Vegas isn't ready for the 2016-2017 season, things seem to be moving quick there.

13200 season ticket commitments in LV... soooo that's probably happening then

The league's entertained them long enough, unless the NHL is playing the long game in eventually shutting down a Vegas expansion bid.

Lack
Markstrom/Miller

Edler
Hamhuis
Tanev

Sedin
Sedin
Vrbata
Higgins
Bonino
Hansen
Burrows/Vey/Matthias

assuming rookies & ELC-players don't count, same as last time

I'd honestly rather protect one of Markstrom/Miller than protect Bieksa/Stanton and the other 2 of Burrows/Vey/Matthias...

We're likely trading one of Lack or Markstrom so I think we can just protect one goalie (the one who stays).

Lack/Markstrom

Edler
Tanev
Hamhuis
Sbisa
Stanton

Sedin
Sedin
Vrbata
Horvat
Kassian
Hansen
Dorsett
Vey
Bonino

We'd leave Bieksa, Burrows, Higgins, and Miller unprotected. I bet Bieksa (gritty veteran D) and Higgins (cheap versatile veteran) get picked up. Burrows has a reputation that no team would want any part of. Miller could be a big name that an expansion team needs and his contract isn't absurdly long.

Dominic Moore has been traded for a second multiple times
A 2nd is fair for Desharnais and Boxak based on precedence but Bozak has 4mil over 3 years, not sure about Desharnais.
I would literally die from laughter if Bergevin could get a 2nd round pick for Desharnais, which would be awful because then I wouldn't be able to enjoy watching this team without Desharnais.

Are they all just 1 year commitments?
Because after that first season I doubt even half renew.

The thing is, though, that almost all of them are probably owned by the casinos as corporate seats and to give to guests as part of random reward packages and deals. It'll be a case kind of like the Staples Center, where every game is technically sold out and yet the arena is always a quarter empty.

Bettman specifically said today that none of those tickets were purchased by casinos or corporate groups, and that the max amount per purchase was 8.

the smartest place for a team would be mississauga (as a suburb... they're larger than winnipeg)

they have a hard time disassociating themselves with toronto... they'd rally around that team

also a team would totally screw up future politics for city amalgamation

I guess this is referring to any fees an expansion team pays if they're close to Toronto.

There was a territorial fee (or something like that) brought up during the last Hamilton relocation rumour. I think it was brought up that Balsillie would need to pay either or both Toronto and Buffalo since Hamilton is right in between them and their markets.

I really wouldn't want a Toronto 2, but shit, if that's what the league and groups want, why not.

absolutely, and it might get younger leafs fans in the stands if they don't price them out

maybe then the Leafs can stop over gouging the true fans and not the suits

Not sure if this was posted, but Sportsnet redrafted the 2005 draft class, and some of these rationales are hilarious. A fucking MMA writer choosing Kris Letang to go to Chicago? :jnc

Some questionable picks above. I guess some of you just sorted by points on Hockey Reference. When it comes to actual hockey, Vlasic is a terrific defenceman with exceptional skills in his own zone. I'd much prefer that to a one-dimensional scorer.

- Jeff Simmons on choosing Vlasic for Vancouver's draft pick

Vlasic should be higher, TJ Oshie before Vlasic?
Silly
Also Stralman after Niskanen, Hjalmarsson, Franson is just plain wrong.

Stop shitting on my team. Start shitting on my finger.
Canadiens are the only team that didn't release their home opener.

They're being relocated. Confirmed.

EDIT: They just did. Relocation dead.

I think Merguson got banned for this.

I can't find any other post even remotely offending. Like. not even CLOSE. They're all from NHLGAF, too. BISH WHAT IS HAPPENING, I THOUGHT YOU WERE A CANUCKS FAN AND SHITTING ON THE HABS WAS ALLOWED

It's funny you guys seem to think Toronto 2 wouldn't price gouge the fuck out of fans as well.

They won't cost as much as Leafs tickets but let's not act like they won't be close.

You overestimate the amount of interest in sports in Mississauga, if thats where they decide to put them.
Also no big corporate presence really, your not sending your clients all the way to Mississauga for a game.
Also no built in affiliation to the team, no reason for people to shell out.

doesn't sound like they would put it in Sauga then, lol

I'm not sure why Markham was getting all the buzz for a while, I guess because the city was considering subsidizing an arena? that's not happening tho. Markham does have a big corporate presence however.
