After working for the local PD and reading police reports filed for fraud and all of that, it is absolutely insane how many stupid fucking people actually believe this and go through with this.
I've read through about 8 months of reports and I'm guessing the number in my town of 65k is probably close to 150-200 people who have fallen for it. Like 95% of them are 65+.
Most lost between $500-$2000 or so, but there were several who have lost like $10k+. One guy lost waaaay more. Bank policies end up basically saying "sucks bro" and rarely refund money back.
People are dumb.
Could be any number of things tbh. Standard procedure if there are harassing messages, or if somebody was involved with drugs or communicating via email or messenger or whatever about doing something to harm somebody else - at least if the offense is big enough - is to get a search warrant to confirm who sent it.
I can have a bunch of messages from Quick telling me how he's going to nuke Winnipeg but until popo have his phone/laptop/whatever to confirm they can't really do anything about it. Have to confirm for proof. They obviously can finish their case and get the guy prosecuted if need be but that can be a big part of everything if they don't end up with whatever device they are targetting.
All that said your buddy could definitely be involved with cp.

- I'm a volunteer for a political party (The Greens) and helping out with campaigning leading up to the Australian Federal Election on July 1st. I've been doorknocking every weekend in electorates where we might get seats and have been actively campaigning.
- I got a job doing NOC analysis on the National Broadband Network, a huge (controversial) infrastructure project in Australia that connects Fibre broadband. There's night shift staring at 4 monitors and responding within SECONDS to severity alarms that ISPs across Australia require a moments notice for, and the 4 days on 3 days off fucks with my sleep and energy.

Real talk here, I can't see it happening. A deal of this magnitude would need buy-in by the owner and I doubt Molson would want to move on from Subban.

It's been strangely reassuring that while campaigning I've spoken to more people than ever that have been in favor of shutting down Australias offshore refugee detention centers.

For sure, and I've said so since the start that while I do 100% believe that MB/MT/a lot of his teammates would like to see him gone, Subban's not going anywhere because he has the only man that matters in his corner, Geoff Molson, who makes far too much money off PK to trade him.
But I do believe our organizational ineptitude trickles downward from Molson to Bergevin to Therrien. The 3 Stooges. To keep the Subban talk going, just look at how this clusterfuck of a braintrust handled him:
- in 2012 in his first post-ELC deal, Subban sought 6x6M, for $36M over 6 years. Any person with a brain in their head knew this was a great deal for the Habs as PK was going to be worth that easily and it would be a steal of a contract in a few years. But no, management hammers him down to 2x3.25M for $6.5M over 2 years. Then he wins the Norris in 2013 and is a finalist again in 2014.
- 2014 when the bridge deal expired, it was time for Subban's payday. He asks for 8x8M for $64M over 8 years. Bergevin tries to play hardball and offers a max of 8x6M for $48M over 8 years. The sides aren't close and arbitration is looming until Molson steps in and awards Subban 8x9M, for $72M over 8 years, which is inexplicably more than BOTH Bergevin and Subban's offers. LOL wat?
This franchise is fucked.

Tim Murray seems like a smart man, he's been talking a lot about a left handed defense man, but why would he settle for Fowler (I know nothing about him) if he sucks?
