i have to/want to fly to Europe for a wedding

aircanada.ca prices the EXACT SAME FLIGHT a couple hundred dollars more expensive than a redirect from google flights TO THE AIR CANADA WEBSITE.

Check the change penalties, that's where the pricing stuff gets expensive.

Damn, Bergevin legit triggered

Bergevin was still visibly agitated with Vancouver GM Jim Benning, who said Thursday he had called Montreal about a potential trade for defenceman PK Subban.

“I was not happy and I’m still not happy about that,” Bergevin said. “The league is looking into it.”

Bergevin, in fact, filed a complaint with the league after Benning’s appearance on TSN 104o AM

“He crossed the line,” Bergevin said. “I don’t know where the line was crossed but he definitely crossed the line. It can’t happen.”
Very unlike Bergevin to call out another GM, but considering how private he is, I'm not surprised this is what tipped him over.

what's he complaining about? I understand Tampa and Stamkos but there's nothing that prevents a GM from saying he called to inquire about a trade for a player. what's Bergevin's problem oO

It's just because Bergevin try's to keep everything as close to the vest as possible, and Benning is out there just rambling without thinking about the consequences Bergevin would have to deal with, AKA being asked about Subban 1000 times during the draft.

This whole thing is just hilarious and bizarre. Benning is way too candid than he needs to be when he speaks and deals with the media. The anti-Lou.

The best part about Benning is his complete lack of self awareness, it's like someone gave a GM job to some 15 year old kid playing NHL 16 on their Xbox, he's so uninitiated with the process of being a GM and it's amazing.

His "I'm not allowed to talk about other players" like a disciplined 6 year old was the best part of today.

I think saying "we had discussions and a deal is a long way off" could be tampering if it wasn't known that Montreal was shopping Subban. This could be very damaging to the relationship if a player learns he's getting shopped from the media and the opposing GM.

However in this case it was pretty widely reported that Subban was available so even though I think technically he's not allowed to talk about acquiring other people's players this probably isn't very serious.

Benning wasn't trying to do anyone dirty unlike Burke/Wilson on the Nucks from a few years back.

"I think there's a good chance we can sign the Sedins, so let's speculate there."

"HEY GUYS I heard Vancouver offered Burrows and Bieksa to Tampa for Victor Hedman, wtf".

Red_Man

It definitely wasn't tampering, Bergevin is just old school, and wants to make his life easier by not having people discuss potential Subban deals, like I said he's one of the most personal guys in hockey. He doesn't discuss anything until it's officially announced.

How the fuck does Chicago have 10 picks tomorrow?

I would have thought they have half of that amount.
Fleecing sucker ass teams like Montreal.

Also picks from the Saad trade and I think others are from one of our 500 recent trades with Florida. Possibly from trading Jimmy Hayes. Im too lazy to look it up.

There are a bunch of tampering rules in place to prevent GMs from saying the kind of shit that Benning said.

Vancouver will likely face a fine, and in an extreme case, may lose a pick.

It definitely wasn't tampering

Saying you have interest in another teams contracted player is actually tampering. There's very little subjectivity to it, actually.

Lololol according to Coyotes ownership, 50% of their "future arena" is going to be privately financed.

I cant wait to see how a bunch of chumps who could barely afford to buy the team without having a payday loan center put up the money is going to finance half an arena when their team loses 40+ million a year.

Plus, I cant see any city in the Phoenix area putting up hundreds of millions to build a 3RD MAJOR ARENA in a metro area that barely has a need for the 2nd one.

Just move these fuckers already.

AFAIK this isn't true. The Stamkos stuff classifies as tampering, but I'm pretty sure Bergevin was just bunching it together because he was pissed.

Toronto was fined for the same thing a couple years ago but if I remember correctly, the NHL said it didnt count as tampering.

it's not even like they said "oh yeah we'll make an offer for him once he becomes UFA" (which the player could directly respond to by not re-signing and could be tampering), it's that he said they'd be calling Bergevin - and there's nothing Subban could even do to harm Montreal to respond to that, how would that possibly be tampering

please show me the rule there.

NHL By-Law 15, in Article 10 of the CBA, says that other teams are not allowed to express interest in signing or acquiring another teams player while under contract.

The Toronto Maple Leafs received a fine several years ago, when Ron Wilson expressed interest in Henrik and Daniel Sedin while they still had contracts with Vancouver.

Thats the one I was thinking of. The NHL didnt have any evidence of tampering but they still fined them for the comments.

All I can find is article 7.3 which only states "7.3 Except where otherwise permitted, no Player who is a party to an SPC with a Club shall,
during the term of such SPC, enter into negotiations with another Club. "

mind stating which exact rule/article you're referring to?

Gaaah fuck these slow loading gaf ads. So sick of clicking the wrong thing because the page shifts.

It's even worse on mobile where the add popping up shifts it by like 1/4 the screen and there's no way you DONT accidentally click on it.

I think he's talking about By-Law Section 15, which so far as I know isn't actually available online.... so good for him being able to find it somehow.... and speak to it with such confidence. Would be nice if he could share the exact wording with us.

Btw, the Leafs weren't fined for tampering. They were fined for violating Section 15 and the NHL actually made the distinction in their statement. And what Wilson did is different. It was ostensibly encouraging the Sedins to go to UFA because the Leafs would want to sign them. Benning was not manipulating the situation, but rather let the cat out of the bag, which upset Bergevin. It's not about being old school either. It's just not something you do to another GM. It's unprofessional, though to be honest I don't think Benning has the brain power to tell the difference.

I would like to know what Section 15 actually says. I'm not so sure Benning's fuck-up actually violates it.

Ya lots of sites seem to be employing this trick now.
It's pretty cynical. It disrupts the user experience a whole lot (especially on mobile) for that extra ad revenue. NeoGAF empire built through accidental clicks. How fucked.

You guys saw this, right? Not scrolling back through pages cause gaf is fucking slow.

Hey guys so who are we Canucks picking for our second rou... oh wait never mind. Fuck this.
My reaction to everything Benning does now:

ronaldo_frustrationfzpsl.gif

At least he didn't go for Chychrun or something. Joulevi was the right pick if you're desperate for a dman. Tkachuk was BPA and comes with less risk, though.

But we'll see how Juolevi does in camp. Probably needs to bulk up a bit before he really gets a shot.

Check out the reddit thread on Jost being drafted.

Top comment is about the attractiveness of his sister.

Several people agree.

Eventually someone reveals that she's 16 years old.

I see why Smelly hangs out on reddit.

So now that Kenny dumped Dats' contract we are going all in on Stamer right? Especially since Holland says there is no D available.

Of course it is. It should be about his grandpa though. Reddit sucks.

i'd definitely take debrincat if we didn't have 5 NHL ready RW prospects right now lol

Girard then.

Looking at past drafts you never know where you'll find that gem of a D. Karlsson was the 7th dman taken in his draft year, PK was the 17th dman taken in his draft year. Looking at some of the guys taken ahead of them is just laughable. Hindsight is 20/20 though, hopefully the Leafs can hit on some late picks.
