Ok since no one else is willing to make a review thread i thought i'd make one. I can't scan all the internet all the time for reviews so if someone finds a review feel free to post it here and i will update the OP.

Current metascore: 85

Guardian 5/5
Its gorgeously lush visuals are quite simply among the best ever seen in a game, offering an object lesson in how stylisation has the power to trump photorealism even in the 4K age. Some players will lack the time or patience to put in the effort that any heavyweight role-playing game demands – this is a 50-hour adventure at least – but it puts forward an irresistible case for your attention. As video games are once again weathering ignorance-fuelled attacks that paint them as universally gun-centric, violent and nihilistic, Ni no Kuni is a timely counterpoint.

Easy Allies 9.5/10
Some may argue Revenant Kingdom clocks in a bit on the short side at around 30 hours to finish the story, but it’s a nice departure from the trend of top-rated JRPGs that last 60 hours or beyond. Ni no Kuni II is a brilliant follow-up that outdoes and improves upon its predecessor in just about every category. This is one fairy tale that most certainly earns its happily ever after.

IGN Spain 9.2/10
A magical game that lives up to the legacy of the first entry of the series. A great RPG that you have to play.

Dualshockers 10/10
I loved every moment of Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom and could easily recommend it as an entry point to the genre for newcomers as well as longtime fans of the genre. Developer Level-5 has truly outdone themselves with this one and I would just like to say to them, thank you for the adventure.

Playstation lifestyle 9.5/10
Ni no Kuni II is pure magic. It consistently surpassed my expectations.

Twinfinite 10/10
An astonishing experience. Once again, Level-5 has risen to the top of a previously floundering but increasingly revitalized genre. Ni No Kuni 2 pushes the envelope and reinvents the wheel while staying true to its JRPG roots.

Game informer 8/10
Building your kingdom is satisfying and engaging, even with the weak narrative hooks. The cycle of rewards became an obsession, and had me staying up late to recruit just one more ally, or complete just one more upgrade. Combat could be tighter, and other supporting elements could use some polish – but like any kingdom, this experience isn’t about individual contributions. It’s about how those contributions come together, and the fun of this experience as a whole outweighs its flaws.

Gamespot 8/10
It's chock full of excellent battles and surprising moments that make for a far more memorable experience than you initially expect and leaves you impressed by your own accomplishments. If you didn't play the first game, don't let this one pass you by too.

IGN 7.8/10
Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom distinguishes itself from its predecessor by layering fast-paced, real-time combat and an engaging kingdom building system atop more traditional RPG systems and quests. It’s a shame it delivers so few truly memorable characters and restricts so much of its storytelling to text on screen, but by the end of Ni No Kuni 2 the broader themes certainly resonate and the 40+ hour journey has been well worth it.

Destructoid 7.5
Level-5 is more than capable of dumping out healthy portions of its secret sauce on top of its games, but the combat of Ni no Kuni II and its attempt to do so many different things can hold it back.

RPGamer Review 4/5
"Ni no Kuni II offers a fully immersive world, and takes players on a wholesome and fun adventure that is sure to appeal to the inner child in everyone. With stunning visuals, a strong soundtrack, action-packed combat that is streamlined and accessible, and a whole host of unique mechanics, it has something for everyone, and is undoubtedly a worthwhile experience. The kingdom building concept offers a great new way of progression that works well on multiple levels, being much more involved than simply buying abilities from a menu and allowing development without combat, while also solidifying Evan's role as a king — though it can also on occasion lead to forced downtime. The vast amount of content to explore and multitude of game systems to experience make for a great game throughout that doesn't get stale. However, this variety comes at a cost of some of its systems being simplistic and underdeveloped. By focusing on a smaller set of deeper and better integrated systems, the experience could have been even better. But with its attempt to boil the ocean, Ni no Kuni II falls just short of being truly amazing."

RPGFan 9/10
"All in all, Ni no Kuni II is a fantastic sophomore attempt from Level-5. It fixed all my issues with the first game, and while it introduced a few new ones, they're easy to overlook in favor of everything the game gets right. Whether you're a fan of the original or someone like me who tried and failed to love it, Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is definitely worth checking out. "

Thanks. The easy Allies video review was pretty good MO. Even though it feels really distracting with the non consistent voice acting even in Major Story parts I am still optimistic about it. Much more then when I watched Dansgaming play the first hour. I have bought it on steam a month ago and I will keep my order for sure.

Can't wait to play this on Friday after all the delays!

After finishing the first game I never really expected them to make a sequel, so I'm excited to spend more time in NNK's Ghibli world.

Wow these scores are incredible. Not sure when I will have time to play this game but I will definately play it one day!

jshackles

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Wow, this game is getting a lot better reviews than I expected - especially after they changed up the battle system so radically and added a bunch of RTS elements to the game. The "demos" they put out on Youtube didn't really seem to inspire a lot of confidence in people. I actually cancelled my pre-order after seeing that last one.

I'll remain cautiously optimistic and maybe wait for a few user reviews and impressions before picking this up, but according to these critic reviews it seems pretty amazing.

Thanks OP. I personally so damn hype for this game.
Me too.And not just because the reviews are positive (personally i stopped caring for reviews more than 10 years ago) but because this looks to have improved a lot of the flaws of the first game while at the same time maintaining its strengths. My only issue are the RTS sections but thankfully from what i hear they are only a small part of the game. Can't wait to start playing it on Friday.I'm totally in the mood for a "going on a grand journey" JRPG!

Only thing that seems to be a bit of a bother is that it seems to be really easy. The combat however looks great. A bti of tales of like feeling but also improved in terms of no special zones but direct battles on the field.

Looks amazing. One con is how short it is. Seeing reviews say 30 hours.

Also don't like the chibi characters on the overworld, other then that, day 1.

One man's con is another man's pro. I play a lot of games and finish 99% of them, if only because it'll drive me crazy if I don't. The amount of games that go on too long far outweighs the amount that feel too short.

^ This. I mean do you really want be long just for sake if being long? This coming from a guy that likes long JRPG like Persona and Xenoblade.

I had actually forgot this was coming out right now. It seems intriguing enough, but I never played the first one, so wasn't waiting this with anticipation. But the reviews seem good enough, ordered. My backlog isn't large enough yet!

i have been keeping my eyes on this since it was first announced. i enjoy reading these reviews and really like Easy Allies's review, but I prefer the entirety of NNK1 over NNK2's mechanics. Pokemon/digimon capturing and fighting is more for me than LKS.

Was watching videos of the combat earlier, reminds me of Dark Cloud, which made me smile, then I realized we'll probably never get Dark Cloud 3 and I started crying....curled up in a ball In the corner for a little...tried to a find a pillow to cuddle.

I mean, good for them, happy it's getting good reviews.

I was gonna wait on it but I need a new PS4 RPG right now. I just hope it's meatier than the original NNK.

I saw the easy allies review and I don't like the real time combat tbh. Maybe I'm old school but I think the game would shine more if you could take your time to fight the enemies. Every jRPG I played that had real-time-combat was too hectic and random during the battles. I also think the graphics are not quite as good as they could be. The game sure captures the ghibli aesthetics well, but I can't shake off the feeling that they could've achieved more on the current hardware.

What do you mean by "meatier"? If you are referring to the game's length everyone is saying that it is shorter than the first.

Except NNK1’s combat wasn’t really turn base like SMT/Persona or other older FF games. As much as I liked first game the AI was kind of crap, they spend SP like candy and they would die so damn quickly. Also, are you god damn kidding me about the visuals? Ni no Kuni 2 looks so damn good while running at 60 FPS.

As much as I liked first game the AI was kind of crap, they spend SP like candy and they would die so damn quickly. Also, are you god damn kidding me about the visuals? Ni no Kuni 2 looks so damn good while running at 60 FPS.

No, I'm not kidding you. Visuals look underwhelming imo. Asset Quality is decent, but it feels like it's lacking something. Like visual density if that is something. This is definitely an exaggeration, but in some cases it reminds me more of DQ8 on the PS2.

I wonder why you bring NK1 to the table when talking about the combat system. All I said was, that I'd prefer turn based combat.

Thanks was fun, thanks for hang'n out dudes.

This is a archive. It's Chapter 5 stuff with new area explored, a new Boss fight, some new side quests, Kingdom Management and new Skirmish Battles.

I prefer the turn base combat too and still not sure about the RTS and the real time combat. Will get the game but canceled the preorder of the premium editiond and preordered the day one edition. Next month is coming GOW 4 and Yakuza 6 and i want those too.

From what i've heard the worst thing about the RTS sections is that they are mandatory in order to progress the game. There are a couple of points in the main quest where you'll have to do some RTS battles in order to get what need and move on in the game.

But other than that i'm very excited to play it and i can't wait for Friday!

So basically just like Mementos in Persona 5. I honestly don't mind that, I mean one of big central plot of the game is that he wants to build his new kingdom so of course at some point he needs to finish building his kingdom. If you steady progress your Kingdom building while going through the story I don't think you won't have issue with later on. I did same thing with Mementos, I steady progress each floor while going through the story and I didn't really issue once the game required for me to finish the Mementos.

To me game visuals is fantastic while achieving 60 FPS. I mean isn't this biggest complain in neogaf that developers focus too much on the graphics and not enough on actual performance? Like it or not this action RPG, having smoother performance is much more important than having more "density".

I have no opinion of this game or the RTS sections yet (have it ordered though, I'll have one soon enough), but as an off-topic observation about Mementos and Persona 5: I suppose it really depends on the type of player you are. I'm... impatient, I guess you could say. If I care about the story at all (which I did in P5, up to a point at least), I want to see where it is going and will probably skip much of the side content doing so. If I like the game enough, I'll play through it again (and if I really like it, again and again) more throughoutly. But the first time playing P5 I barely scratched the surface of Mementos. And when I had to get to the bottom, it was an absolute drag. *that same Mementos music droning on with the catbus sounding like a sewing machine* *same effing combat music, fight a lame group of random baddies* *you'll never see it comiiiiiiing*. Urgh.

The point being, for a non-completionist these kinds of "you must do $THING enough to proceed, but naturally we didn't tell you beforehand" mechanics can actually suck a lot. But as said, no opinion about this game, we'll see how it goes.

But the game does tell you.
When first time going to Mementos, Morgana tells you that his trying to find who he is by going through it and the fact this where Palace originally come from.
So it’s pretty obvious you need to finish the Mementos at some point. It’s same thing with Ni no Kuni 2. With each trailer his says he wants to build kingdom which makes obvious that you need to finish building that kindom at some point of the story.

It does, to an extent I guess (when it comes to that one character - but how much can you trust him/her/it?). Just that at least on a personal level, I then (and now, too) found Mementos to be absolutely the weakest part of the game, so I avoid it as much as I can.

Fair enough, I persoanlly didn't have that much issue with it. In fact I would say it perfect for playing while listening podcast.

Edit: Another thing is that I’m huge addic when it comes to capturing and fusing demons, I LOVE it and Mementos was only place to get the demons that I couldn’t get in main dungeons, so going through Mementos was kind of fun for me.

In Canada we don't even have the option to get the King's Edition. But god damn it pricy, even there was King's Edition in Canada I don't think I can justify spending that much money on it. I'm also kind of mad we don't get season pass with premium edition.

What do you mean by "meatier"? If you are referring to the game's length everyone is saying that it is shorter than the first.

More difficult gameplay, better use of their systems, etc. Level 5 makes a lot of games where there's a ton of stuff to do or fiddle with but it never really goes beyond that phase as it never matters or there's very little reason to do so because there's a lack of effect.

They do everything else amazing though like kingdom creation, graphics, and all that jazz. If they could just find a way to get their games to a point where it satisfies vets like me and kids looking for a magical adventure, I think they'd be like one of the best developers out there.

I don't know why, but I was pretty bored with the first game pretty fast. I don't know what gave me that feeling, but it felt pretty slow in the beginning with a pretty slow combat system.

Hopefully, this makes things a bit faster.
