NieR: Automata |OT| "I wouldn't expect too much from this game if I were you."

What weapons does everybody else roll with? I'm finding myself enjoying using the combat bracers a lot. Punching the crap out of those tin cans sure is fun. I also enjoy mixing two samurai swords together for some nice combos. Heavy swords rarely get any use due to how frenetic the action is in this game, especially compared to the first NieR where I found myself using the heavy swords more frequently since they were also useful for clearing out space for getting through the bullets enemies fired.

nothing better than a fully upgraded cypress stick and its graphical changes

I can sell stuff like old books and severed cables and crap, right?

It tells me which stuff I should just sell but doesnt seem to make a distinction between crafting materials and what seems to be junk
That stuff isn't junk, those are crafting materials too.

There is also a reusable key item you can buy from
Emil's
Shop that when she uses it she does a change behind a curtain into the leotard. Much nicer than self-destruct and it stays that way through saves and
checkpoint travel
.

This is some high quality information.

Also, the sand physics are a bit...hrm.

*find a chest on perfectly good level field with a slight incline to the right of it*

*walk at it from the left side, before I can open it enter sliding animation that sends me up the incline and back down in a full circle of the chest before ending up right back where I started walking*

Hrmmmm.

*walk up an incline to a set of stairs and right before I step onto them the incline activates the sand slide so I slide onto the stairs but keep my sand sliding animation and speed and I proceed to slide up a flight of stairs at the speed of sound with sand flying off of the apparently sandy metal stairs*

Hrrrrrmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

The dashing greatsword heavy attack is godlike, and the spear-greatsword combo attack is too.

The satisfaction of using the spear-greatsword combo with Fang of the Twins is immense. Mobile crit blender.

At what point does his shop change? I'm in C and he's still only selling high-cost +6 chips.

He has three general locations he can show up at and the inventory apparently changes based on that. You have to get him when he is on his loop near the Resistance camp. Two
fist weapons
are also available along with the aforementioned item in that shop inventory set.

6 hours in and I'm loving it so much. I've only watched the Drakengard/Nier videos from Clemps, and seeing all the references is getting me so giddy.

I'm at the part right after they beat the Giant thing that
ate the Aircraft Carrier
, and I don't know how to use the beeping detector thing. I just can't get a feel for how the frequency of beeps changes with the direction. Since I can't figure it out on my own, where is
9S at this point? Is finding him the way to progress?

He's in the City Ruins crater, deep within the cave. I dunno if it just lets you go there, because one of the YoRHa members is supposed to tell you that he got knocked far away from the Flooded City.

Noted, thanks.

I didn't expect to get serious feels on an escort side quest for a runaway kid robot. The music at the end. WHEW. I also didn't expect to like the toy-like design for the robots, which really helped make them more charming and cute when they're
not aggressive
.

Been using some Fist Gauntlet weapons I found. They are pretty neat.

Also I like using the upgraded Iron Pipe weapon because its just funny.

Got the Platinum trophy today and redid the ending to finish my time with the game the right way.

I'm still as happy with it as I was the first time I got the real ending. The weapon material grind could occasionally get annoying, since I never got the right rare mat vendor list to pop and had to grind it out the old-fashioned RNG way, but it was well worth getting every weapon max leveled for the quest gated behind it.

I think ultimately I'm struck by how incredibly well the game handled being accessible to people new to Nier/Taro games in general, while still providing resonance and meaning to fans of the previous game.

So I may have lucked out on getting some drops/found items and upgraded an early weapon to it's 3rd level...so now I'm like 2 hours in and have an 800 damage weapon...

Question about Ending E.
So basically, if I answer "Yes" to the pod during Ending D credits, it will show me Ending E then delete my whole save?
I want to try and get the Platinum Trophy, so that's the only reason I'm worried.

It will ask you if you want to delete it.

Got distracted watching Power Rangers on Twitch (shutuplol), but I got ending C.

...Holy shit, I think I need to lay down before I go for Ending D.

Quick question: Are side quests required in order to unlock a true ending or anything like that? Most of the ones I've stumbled upon have been a slog. Go here, get this, the usual fetch quests, so I'd really like to skip them if possible. However, I'd hate for this to end up being a situation where the true ending only unlocks after I finish all side quests or something like that

Every single one is optional, but also mercifully unmissable after a certain point.

Some of them tie heavily into the games theme, and rife with foreshadowing, but if they're slowing you down, definitely keep progressing through the story.

So the Wandering Couple side-quest...

I saw them in the Flooded Ruins and thought I could come back but after I beat the Sea Monster Robot thingy I failed the quest...hm guess I'll do it on Route B. I was just a bit hesitant to hand over 50,000! I do have a save before before I rejected the quest/did the main story quest but yeah I'll just do the quest another time.

The "canon" endings don't require any of the sidequests to be done. One or two joke endings are connected to side quests, however.

That's good to hear. I'm certainly planning on going through most of them eventually, but I hate to have the story's pace ruined because this guy wants me to run to every single zone to collect metal scraps

I literally have to make myself go to bed and stop playing this every night this week so I can get some sleep before my work shifts. This game got the stranglehold on me. Haven't had a game consume my thoughts in this way in quite some time.

Fang/Spear combo is definitely godlike.

Also a fan of Iron Pipe/Ancient Overlord combo for my second weapon set.

Was he the same guy in the

he was the one who would not look her way and caused her to go insane

Bought this as an impulse purchase amd played about 1.5 hours so far.

This game feels incredible! Such a great sense of speed, fighting feels responsive and powerful, and everything looks fantastic. Loving it so far, and I can't wait to see what else lies ahead.

I'm hoping that a mod for playstation buttons instead of xbox buttons will happen, but it's not impacting my time negatively in any significant way.

i'm having a lot of fun but man fighting android sized enemies is a lot more difficult to keep track of than in rising or bayo. flashy shots everywhere, enemies and me are all very similar colour schemes, no extra red platinum flashes + sounds before attacks... gotta train for a while. Also Nines is great but he seriously makes it difficult to focus on attackers sometimes.

Since 12:01 AM on March 7th, I've been playing this game.

I currently have 15 hours and 31 minutes of play time. I only have one ending (T), and I just, as of 2 minutes ago, unlocked the transporter function.

This is good.

Man I don't know if I was just really underleveled but the first part of Route C was HARD as balls even on normal.
The constant visual/skill loss from those energy things (I didn't have any cleansing item for them yet) and then that long walk to the mall while your movement skills keep going kaput and now the fact that I have to be careful to manually save which I keep forgetting *rages*

Fucking worth it though wow what a ride

Just curious, how many of you are able to hear the high pitch sound
of the pod buried in the desert
made?

Usually younger people are able to hear higher pitches than older folks, though how old and the degree always varies person to person.
