Has anybody read anywhere how long the game is?
It is around 40 hours long if you do sidequests and the likes

Hmmm, is it me or are the pics in that WCCFtech review, REALLY spoilerific?
Why isn't the IGN Japan review on Metacritic?
It suggests that reviews could be quite mixed. I loved the demo though, and the soundtrack was awesome too. Definitely getting this.

Because its not the IGN main branch. Every IGN outlet would not be on metcritic
Also, one review = quite mixed even though the other 4 are pretty consistent?
My head is saying early reviews though, likely by Platinum fans keen to get on to the game early. No need to get upset about it, I'll be extremely happy if I'm wrong.
Could you imagine a world where Nier Automata is the PS4's highest rated game (that wasn't previously released on PS3 or another device)? That would be insane.

"Technically, it was a big challenge for us," says game designer Takahisa Taura, whose previous work includes The Wonderful 101 and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. "We had to create everything from scratch - we were in quite an uncertain mode for quite a long time. But the team at Platinum always had the ambition to make an RPG."
In terms of influences on Platinum, the original Nier is an obvious one, though the team did look westward - if only for a short time. "We were playing different RPGs back then," says Taura. "When all the team members got together we'd talk about them. When we were making the game, The Witcher 3 came out. The sub-quest elements were so great, it was kind of demoralising, so we just stopped playing the game..."
35+ for everything. Maybe a little longer depending on skill
That's pretty long! Played the demo (liked it a lot!) but didn't get any RPG vibes from it. Is this supposed to have open-world/exploration elements?
Reviewers just forgot about this game LOL
did the pre-load began?

So its reviewed better than horizon?

The MC is going to drop precipitously once bigger sites review it (my comment isn't an indictment of the game's quality, but this game is definitely for weirdos).

We're all kind-of expecting that, but seeing these scores already has many people thinking it'll rank better than they previously thought.
Also, it's pretty great to think that - even if only for a moment - NieR: Automata was totally the best rated PS4 game of 2017.
Thinking about a shitty review from polygon raises my blood pressure.
40+ hours all endings.
What? A character action game that's 40 hours long?!!?
When is the actual embargo for the NA version? Keep checking this thread thinking there will be more but it's just the same few.
Man, if the folks at Polygon don't like the game, then they don't like the game. What's wrong with that?
Review damage control is cringeworthy as fuck.
It's ok if not every major review outlet agrees with us. I personally would never even think of rating Nier its metacritic score, but I also wouldn't blindly recommend it to any person. It's not for everyone, and it's ok if reviews reflect that.
Even Drakengard 3 has a 9/10 review.
I'm not worried about an honest low review but a statement review like bayo 2 got.
Completely agree.
A review that isn't saying something isn't worth reading. I don't want objective analysis of a product, I want to read what someone thinks and feels about a piece of art; what they think it's trying to achieve and say, and how valuable they find that or not.
And I might not agree. That's just part of the deal.

Rpg though.
Also it should be
Ending A 20 hours and roughly 6-8 hours every other major ending.
The game has two dozen endings with most of them being joke ones.
Main endings are easy to get while the joke ending are very specific.
Or so I've read.
It's not a character action game, it's an open world Action RPG.
I personally hate that shit as well and am not looking forward to the inevitable crud that will be in Nier. If it's everywhere I will certainly think less of the game and rate it lower.

Thankfully, the "open world" part seems more like PR speak than anything. It seems to share the same structure as the original, but with a bigger focus on shortcuts and things like that. I've seen its level design compared to Dark Souls 1 a couple of times, and that is so much more exciting than yet another Open World, to me.
Wait, what? :/ Maybe I should have seen more gameplay videos. What I SAW of it felt linear and MGR-esque.
Well good news, to see stuff like that you'll have to do it manually.
Otherwise it's simply 2B's skirt length.
Honestly, Yoko Taro may be honest with liking pretty women, but he's also no stranger to being open minded & writing them as deep and multifaceted characters. (Certainly helps that 2B's design isn't nearly as fetishistic as Bayo's was to many.)
