Nintendo 3DS Japanese Launch Thread

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.
Oh FFS who comes up with some of the bullshit around here... Guys we're better than this. >__>

For clarification: Street Fighter does indeed have background music while fighting. However, the background itself is static and without moving characters like the console version.

It looks like this.

edit: Beaten. : p

And even i am moderately surprised
Gameplay-wise how are you liking it? This may be the only launch title I pick up so I'm hoping it plays well.

it feels like WE alright, but seems to be a fair amount of glitches. Normal level seems much easier than usual too (perhaps tweaked for the NDS? I never played the previous DS WE so i can't comment).

Scored a few comical goals where defenders seem to not want to bother putting in a challenge or even move in some cases - dancing in from the by line and drilling into the bottom corner seems overly effective (6-0 drubbing of Barca with Spurs in a 5 minute match on normal difficulty should tell you something!)

Sounds like good old launch game weirdness :/ I'm still excited for some WE on the go though.

So was everyone else, the game has music during play. What you're looking at is a very early prerelease video. You thought there was a flaw that huge and you didn't even look at one more video to check before coming here and starting rumors?
Oh please; how am I starting rumors about a game that's already been released and played widely. Yes I should've checked more footage but this isn't anything more than a regular question about a game like any other.

ah so the Gamestop is having a 9:00am opening here. That'll do it. Get in and out, like a ninja.
If this works for me, it will be in a dark twisted fantasy. Lines lines lines

no, it just has static backgrounds. No motion or animation in the backgrounds; very dead backgrounds.
I didn't think that would bother me until I saw for myself in the videos. On one hand, even the SNES/Genesis ports had animated backgrounds, but on the other I can understand if it tied up the speed of the game but then again, old console ports had animated backgrounds, we're better than this!!

The result now is just creepy though, lol

Beat EviLore at pool.
Can't believe the gamestop I pre-orded at isn't opening at 9am. I will pay it all off before the 27th hopefully some how I can skip the line and just say my name and walk out with it. Probably just go to Best Buy to pick a game up.

If on the Gamestop website I click the midnight launch and search my area code and the Gamestop I per-ordered from shows up on the map. Does that mean it is having a midnight launch?

They could have at least removed the people. It looks so weird with everyone frozen in place. Once seen my eyes keep getting drawn to the background due to the poses the people are in. :(

How noticeable is this in the 3D (over the shoulder) view?

yeah mine is opening at 7 or 8am. And it's in a mall so it will be kind of funny but I think I'll avoid the zergling rush and head in like at 10.

the gamestop i pre ordered at is opening at 9 am, and in my old town its opening at midnight :(

I still might cancel it lol, idk yet. Amazon is now payed off with amazon credit B^)

Well, it took 4328443783424327 days but i will finally be able to play the fucking thing tomorrow at PAX :D, i am hyped, will play Zelda first and resident evil mercenaries since those are not out for a while, then i'll play pilotwings

At least backgrounds also benefit from the 3D visuals with furnishings such as barrels, tables and curious animals popping of the screen (CVG).

Believe me, once you actually playing. Those static people/animal won't be any problem. :)

Dude it doesn't have an animated background, not too hard to imagine it not having background music either.

Are there mass shortages of the 3DS over at Japan yet? I'm trying to get an idea of hard the system will be to buy a little while after launch, once word of mouth spreads. I'm keeping my preorder but my bro is deciding if he should cancel his.

With what just happened in Japan, massive shortage is now a sure thing.

Saw some images in the news, I feel so bad for Japan :( Hope everyone here is safe.

I'm thinking video games are the last things on the minds of the Japanese now.

Shortage of supply is not the worry, more like shortage of demand. The earthquake/tsunami is a major national disaster, with a huge emotional and economic toll (especially with the amount of infrastructure damage we've seen so far - Sendai Airport, oil refineries, farm lands, etc). More substantially, the number dead and injured is likely going to be staggering.

Will video games be the focus for Japanese citizens/consumers in the coming weeks? I can't see that being the case, but I'm not familiar enough with the culture to know I'm right.

Just found out a magnitude 8.9 earthquake hit Japan a few hours ago!

God damn, I hope everyone from Japan-GAF is okay. That's just such a massively powerful quake. Must've caused an unimaginable amount of devastation.

I know about the earthquake, but it should have absolutely no effect on supply of the 3DS.

What!? Do you really think one of the largest earthquakes in the past 100 years won't affect the supply ,to a game-system that just launched, in the very same country the earthquake affected?

Not that it will affect the supply, but there is a possibility that storage spaces filled with 3DS systems will be destroyed and that people will have other things to worry about rather than buying the systems....

Then there are those people who will buy the system because of the disaster.

The problem is you falsely assume that the 3DS supply comes out of Japan.

Im pretty sure most Launch 3DS units are already stored in warehouses in the US and UK already.

Welle it's being manufactured in China for what matters... More importantly, tell us if you're ok, J-GAF people !

Pretty sure the 3DS doesnt come from Japan, even if it did most units would already be in US and UK storage by now.

Where the supply comes from is irrelevant.

Ma, I don't want to take away from the serious matter at hand in Japan, but yes it is relevent when you're starting to somehow claim that the earthquake in Japan is going to have a negative effect on the 3DS supply line. It won't since Japan has very little to do with the supply.

It won't affect the supply to the Americas and Europe. It sure as hell will affect the flow throughout Japan.

No I'm not assuming the 3DS comes out of japan, but the people wh oare buying the 3DS at the moment are japanese. This earthquake very much effects them.

It's about context. It clearly was not about the supply in Japan itself. The original inquiry was asking how supply will be in other territories so responding with what happened in Japan is irrelevent to the original inquiry.

I'm alright, and I've heard from sprsk, cvx, DCharlie, and Vinnk. Thanks.

It was a rather big earthquake. Most of my co-workers hadn't ever been through such a big one. Now all of the trains are stopped.

Yeah I said before they should have gone the old route, at least have a few frames of animation. (The Crowd shifting between cheer positions or something). It looks really cheap and lazy and dead now. Creepy, as you say.

Maybe the engine simply couldn't handle having the background characters animate? I'm sure there is a good reason for why the stuff is the way it is.

EvilMario

Will QA for food.
I'm sure if Capcom had given it more time, they would have been able to animate the backgrounds. It's likely a matter of wanting to make launch with what most people are claiming is the 'must have title'.

No thanks though.. just Pilotwings and Steel Diver for me.
