I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this but while I was walking around Pier 39 in San Francisco they had this giant box/room in front of the pier with a countdown ending this Friday along with a phrase saying "a new dimension of fun coming soon" or something to that degree. Must be some sort of 3DS demo thing. I searched around if there was any info on it but couldn't look for anything. Might go tomorrow to check it out.

You mean this? http://nintendo3dsblog.com/nintendo-unveils-mysterious-demo-pods

I hope Nintendo puts up a list of places in US cities where demo kiosks will be available.

Yeah they've got those things here in the UK. The TV ads they've started showing recently are people walking inside and their reactions when playing the 3DS.

Part of me doesn't want the hype to start until after launch, so I don't have to line up as long, but at the same time part of me wants this to be a huge hit.

I'm so torn. :(

Pretty bad. They didn't know it was region locked too, or the price of the actual system.

Have they shown Street Fighter, or did I miss that bit?

They showed it. Made it through one round. I think he lost too.

People at GameStop don't work as hard as I do lol. They get to sit on their butt or organize the games, etc. However they barely get any hours, so that's the trade off.

Well, I just hope it's a first or second job and you're young. That's no way to live on minimum wage pay...

It'll be a hit no matter what happens, the only question is how big.

I don't care either way as long as I get Paper Mario and Super Mario 3DS. Which we are, so the investment is sound.

who's making the US 3DS launch thread? EU? AUS?

when?

I have so much bills coming in at the end of the month I will have to cancel my amazon pre-order soon

hopefully by early next month I can still pick one up :( (please be in stock)

I'm planning on making threads a week ahead of each launch.

at a random stop at target today, after paying for what I was buying, the little "coupon" receipt they gave me was just an ad for the 3ds, and how if I preorder I can get a $5 gift card.

Has anybody timed how long it takes to complete a StreetPass when stationary and when moving? I'm kinda curious if how they advertise it happening is realistic.

And people wonder why American's get everything cheaper the rest of the world. That same job would pay, at the very least, $16 for someone your age here in Australia.

Ooo, this is a verrrrry good question. I would like to know also.

It amazes me how bad the 3DS OS is. It tends to freeze when you fuck around with anything where the wireless controller is involved with. It just goes black screen and won't come back to life or you get an error screen and it asks you to turn off the device. Oh well...

I've only had it lock up on me once when I was checking the software library rankings.

I haven't had it freeze once. Are you running the update?

Can't wait until the morning of the 27th to go to GameStop and pickup my beautiful Aqua Blue 3DS...

Same here (but replace GS for Target)

I am N64 levels of excited for this thing. Having multiple 3DS dreams over here.

I haven't had any problems with the OS. I thought it was pretty slick and easy to use coming from Nintendo...Plus it actually looks great. Can't say the same for the most recent Live iteration....

Also yeah I want Steel Diver so bad. ONE MORE WEEK!

Yup.

Well, it does look great and it's fun to use but also it's really buggy on some parts. I had it lock up 3 times without doing anything actually. I just noticed it gets weak when the wireless controller comes into the game.

What wireless controller are you talking about?

I'm not a magical 3DS expert, but that sounds like a hardware issue.

Wait, wireless controller?

Mine froze once before the update. I was worried about hardware defect but it's fine now. And yeah, it was related to wireless, I think.

I've been debating on canceling my 3DS preorder and just picking up a Black DSi. I haven't had a DS in years and could spend forever just catching up on its backlog. WHAT TO DO.

Either way wait until the 3DS comes out. We'll probably see a price drop soon after the launch for the original DS stuff.

But really? Just stick with the 3DS and play backlog games during the drought.

Get a 3DS and play the backlog of titles on it?

Nah, gotta be the software, which can't handle it correctly. They can sort things out with an update tho.

You shouldn't. It's not your machine, it's the buggy software causing the error.

Wow, you are a Nintendo technician completely knowledgable about the 3DS? That's pretty cool :p

I bought my Wii on launch day. After a few days I noticed it was crashing a lot, particularly in Zelda and Tony Hawk Downhill. I eventually pinned down a place in Zelda where the game *always* crashed. I took the game to a Wii at a friend's house, tried it there - no crash. Took it to the Wii in our breakroom at work - no crash. Took it back home, crash.

I took my Wii in to Nintendo, they gave me a replacement - no crashes ever again. Apparently there was a flaw in the DVD drive on my first Wii.

Yeah I have been addicted to the Mii adventure game(what are they calling this in English? The built-in mini RPG) for the last few days. Need more game coins for cat warriors. Curse Nintendo for their 10 coin per day limit! I WOULD GO WALKING IF YOU LET ME GET COINS!!!!!

Seriously though I just got a Kirby hat that basically makes it look like he is teabagging you. FUCK.YES.

Can you apply it to a Mii you have, and if so do you think it will appear in games using Miis such as Pilotwings?

I know EB has stated before that Dead or Alive is a launch game, but today they had a new catalogue and it still says that it’s a launch game in Australia! Please be true!

New UK reviews:
Pocket Gamer
seeing is believing. The moment you lay eyes on that auto-stereoscopic display is likely to stay with you for the rest of your gaming life.

The impression of depth is uncanny, and even the slowly rotating menu items on the 3DS home screen look amazing. When you eventually pluck up the courage to insert a game cart, the effect is even more staggering – although it should be noted that it varies from game to game.

In Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition it’s quite subtle, whereas Ridge Racer 3D goes for a more extreme application, possibly to ensure that objects way off in the distance possess the appropriate sense of depth.

ElectricPig
Your jaw will quite literally hit the floor when you first witness this baby in motion. As amazing as the screen is, it isn’t without its caveats. For starters, the effect is only achievable when you’re viewing the screen dead-on. Even a little deviation to the left or right is enough to break the illusion of depth, so you need to hold the 3DS perfectly still during play. It’s hardly the perfect situation for a portable games console, but before long you’ll learn to keep your movements to a bare minimum.

And a new SF4 review: 9/10
It would be easy to sit here and pick apart all of the things that Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition doesn't do, but the truth is, Capcom has somehow been able to miraculously squeeze every bit of bone-crushing fighting action onto the portable screen of the 3DS and still managed to toss in a staggering number of added features and options to go along with it. Even losing a few frames of character and background animations is a small price to pay for the stunning 3D visuals. Video game fans have waited a long time for a portable fighting game experience that could actually live up to the standards of those found on the current home consoles, and thanks to Capcom, that day has finally arrived.

There's a video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7teP5XCo6c

It looks good but hat's the purpose of the game?

That whole headphone thing doesn't work with my 3DS and Apple Headphones.

Nope, I'm not hehe.

I had similar problems with different devices in the past, so I expect it to be the software here aswell, which is a bit buggy when it comes to handling the wireless data stream.
But then again, all I can do is "guess" - just like you.

HK: Let me address eShop specifically. We had a version of eShop on Nintendo DS and Wii, but we weren't really satisfied with what we had. It was a browser-based tool, and the responsiveness and ease of use weren't up to what we had hoped. Another thing was that the actual location you went into to make purchases, and the area you had to access to see promotional materials were two different spots. I think everyone is the same: when you see something you want in a promotion, you want to buy it straight away, and you weren't able to do that. Obviously, we wanted to bring those together, so that's something we are planning to do.

In terms of ease of use, we want to take it out of being in a browser, and make it work as a native operating system application. Our thought process was that we really want to take the necessary time to make this into the eShop that we want, and that's what's taking us this amount of time.

Sweet.

Gamekult just reviewed Professor Layton and they report the game is excellent :)
http://www.gamekult.com/jeux/test-professeur-layton-et-le-masque-des-miracles-J000098776t.html

They gave it a 7/10 (good score for Gamekult) and the review reads like an 8/10. Only complaint they have is about repetitiveness. Apart from that they are thrilled by the game, the scenario, the graphics and the smart use of 3D -"a technical uppercut". They love the evolution of the Layton formula towards a LucasArts point & click.

SOLD.

Been really interested in Layton ever since I played Puzzle Agent and the new one on 3DS looks great, love the style. Nice to hear it's good. Will get :)
