Sooo... DS games on a 3DS!

Is it like playing Wii (480p) on a HDTV? is the image quality good? i hear there is a code for 1:1, but you will play with some really small "screens", so i think playing with the default image size is the best way to go: but does it look good?

Better or worse than the DSi XL?

There was a comparison way back in this thread but I can't find it now. It looked fine to me from those pictures.

Worse than the DSi XL, but you'll only truly care if you're a pixel whore. It's not amazingly jarring as some people might suggest.

Hardware reviews with a score are so strange.

The whole idea of StreetPass is to exchange data with random people you walk by, regardless of what game you're playing or if your system is in sleep mode. If you want to do any sort of local multiplayer or use Internet functionality, you'll need to have the wireless switched on. You'll get an error code if you try using wireless functionality while it's turned off.

To maximize battery life, you give up wireless, but leaving it on for StreetPass while in sleep mode is not a big drain at all.
Right. I take some long trips through NYC and I wouldn't want to have StreetPass on all the time, but I would like to quickly activate it when I'm going to be walking around. If activating StreetPass can be as easy as flicking the switch, then I'm happy. If I have to open the system, hunt around in the menu, etc, then I am less happy.

From the sounds of it, as long as StreetPass is enabled in-game, I can turn StreetPass on and off by flicking the wireless switch. Which is good.

Does no reviewer understand how 3D pictures work? That is precisely the process for producing a 3D image--there's no "pseudo" about relative to the way 3DS renders games, or how any other 3D camera takes pictures.
we should just give up on the idea of normal journalists being informed about technology. They obviously have no clue how things like 3D actually work. (CVG said it was layering 2D images in planes or something weird like that)

unless you're like me and you think smaller dpi looks better. while i won't be playing ouendan at 1:1, i'll be playing most everything else at it.

GBM and PSP Go look so awesome. DS games at 1:1 on 3DS are going to look like PS1 games on PSP go at 1:1. ie, better than ever.

that said if you think DS games look better on the XL than the DS lite then you aren't going to agree with me.

Has there been any kind of report/complaint/whatever about dead pixels, yellow-tinted screens, "crunchy" touchscreens and such stuff that ruined the DSLite launch?

The thought of turning my 3DS on day one and seeing dead pixels is freaking me out right now. Does Nintendo still have a zero tolerance policy on dead pixels?

One of the Kotaku guys (IIRC) on Bonus Round thought that the depth slider was a mechanical control for a "lens" and that it might "wear out" with repeated usage. Head, meet desk.

Heck, even that TechRadar review incorrectly claims that 3DS uses a lenticular display rather than a parallax barrier.

, but apart from experimentation with the unit, nobody moves the head while playing.

You'd be surprized! this was a major problem for me when I first started playing ridge racers, got used to it quickly and learned not to move my head, but I relize when playing games now I very subtly move my body/head postion in tune with the game.

I have a feeling they wanted a hologram - they want you to be able to look around the things in the picture.

Somewhere earlier in this thread is an image comparing the same game on DSL and upscaled on 3DS.

Here is a sample image I made a few weeks back showing a fraction of a DS image, and comparing how it looks at the same physical size but upscaled in resolution (3DS) and a larger physical size but the same resolution (DSiXL).

EDIT: Those image of a 3DS being taken apart make me want to switch the back pieces of black/blue ones. Ugly, but nobody would get them mixed up. Switching buttons could create a nice look, but I'd feel much more hesitant about having to move the rest of the system innards around to do so.

If you have the balls to do it, please post pics would love to see how it turns out!!

In actuality the 3DS is powered by dreams and miracles. Next generation ahoy!

edit: ^^^ well there go my dreams and miracles thanks dude

btw, with the Infrared available, wouldn't a "tv remote" 3dsware be to far from being a real possibility? ;) Just came to my mind. Would be cool :)

That said, I WANT MINE NOW :( 4 weeks :(

If the IR light is bright enough. On the Gameboy Color, the IR was so dim two GBC's could only communicate if they were held with the IR port straight across from eachother, at a max distance of about 2 to 3 inches (I had to program communication between the two, it sucked!)

This is going to be a huge problem with me... I'm one of those clowns that turns the system like a steering wheel when I'm playing a racing game... I tilt it when playing pinball sims, too... It's going to be a real pain breaking that habit...

Just learn a new habit: tilt your head as well.

Judging from the Gamersyde video, no way Ridge Racer 3D looks worse than the PSP version.

Not that it looks particularly good... in 3D might be cool though.

I want a PES11 video from Gamersyde. :(

Yeah I don't think anyone who sits down and looks at vids of RR3D and RR PSP would say that the PSP one(s) look better. It's just that RR3D doesn't look better by enough of a margin compared to a game that is 6 years old. And that's where the snark and lukewarm reactions come from.

Smallish, but totally usable. =)

Oh yeah, to expand on the touch screen functions of SSFIV 3D during battle, you have a couple options: Lite or Pro. On the touch screen you have 4 quadrants to touch (numbered 1-4) that activate a particular move or combination of buttons, similar to the Bleach fighting games on the DS. In Lite mode, you can set your "macros" to whatever move or button you want. For example, you can set Ryu's options to 1 - Shinkuu Hadoken, 2 - EX Tatsu, 3 - Focus Attack, 4 - Jab Shoryu. They're all color coded as well, so you have a visual representation of the type of move you've assigned. In regards to execution speed, moves come out as fast as the game allows you to input and can basically allow you to perform stuff that normally the computer would do, such as walk up sonic booms/scissor kicks/flash kicks/nightmare boosters/final atomic busters, etc. So if you're a struggling Guile player or someone who just wants a distinct advantage, Lite mode is what you want. Also, you can set your macros for each character in the game if you set your Lite mode to custom.

In pro mode, it only allows you to do buttons and button combinations, such as PP or PPP, etc., but no directional motions are available. It still falls in line with the 4 quadrant system.

Altogether, its a pretty robust customizable system and can be very useful to everyone playing the game.

When you play ranked, is it pro only? (thank god for pro or I could never Lariat!!!)

Sure, but then they compare it to professional 3D photography, which works on the exact same principle as the 3DS cameras, not some imaginary holographic tech that's somehow available now.

i hope the redesign is totally mad and sleek like the ds lite was

like if the entirety of the top bit is taken up by the widescreenw ith the res of the stuff on the bottom. and spaced out controls
and no region locking

can someone link me to this news
"Nikkei: Nintendo drops Opera in favor of...Netfront, for the 3DS."

I'm kinda shocked I have not seen it here so I am thinking I may just have missed it

I think Nintendo should use fur shading for the grass in Ocarina of Time... it would look very good.

If I recall correctly, when Super Mario Galaxy 2 was announced, the grass was supposed to look that way.

So, after watching some videos I noticed that some aspects about the characters like clothes, Makoto's scarf, Dee Jay hair are also estatic as well...

The more I see about this game the more I´m like :/
