Nintendo 3DS Japanese Launch Thread

i just went to den den town and got so many surechigai miis! i've almost finished the pikmin picture now. osaka is buzzing with streetpass already.

I'll be interested to see how things pan out, but the GAFer who referred to the 3DS as a "viral" handheld had an interesting point. The thing seems to be geared up to be taken with you everywhere, to constantly be updating and presenting new content (even if it's just Miis or pieces for your puzzle) and is loaded with bitesize software to show off to friends and family.

yep, i already know i'll be taking this out with me far more than any previous handheld. it's a nice way to help it compete for time with the iphone.

Question: is there an option to transfer your NDS wifi settings/account so you don't lose your Friend Codes when you migrate to the 3DS? Can someone test it, like using the NDS utility for it with the download mode in the 3DS?

Quoting myself. Anyone?

Someone asked before how I got my free 3DS (not my Japanese one I have now). I got it at the Australian Nintendo 3DS launch, apparently I had the best tweet on the night. No idea which one though.

Now, to play some Street Fighter!

I have a question,

I'm looking to get one game for my 3DS when it comes out at the end of the month. I'm trying to decide between SSFIV, Pilotwings Resort, and Ridge Racer 3D. Which ever games I don't pick I will be renting, but I want to own at least one game. Any suggestions?

What type of games do you like? Not many people have played the final Pilotwings so we don't know how much is in it.

I'm quite liking both SSFIV3D and Ridge Racer though.

I'd be tempted to get Pilotwings if I had to choose just one. It'll be nice to play again in future, whereas the others will probably just get sequels that will render the originals mostly obselete.

Also, in Europe I bet that Pilotwings will be the only one to come with stars points.

SSFIV also comes with star points, as it's going to be published directly by Nintendo

I love all those genres, that's why I'm having a hard time deciding on one to buy, but like I said which ever game I do end up buying I will rent the other two.

I thoght pilotwings was a launch games in Japan? Is that why it was on media crates sales charts?

Edit: fixed spelling errors. Using my blackberry to post on the forum (NeoGAF is block at my work because "games" is not allowed.....

Nope - the only launch title from Nintendo was Nintendogs + Cats. Given that both the Wii and the DS had some four or five launch-day titles in Japan, that's quite the turnaround.

Wow that is surprising. I guess Nintendo is trying to let the 3rd parties have a chance to shine instead of being in Nintendo's shadow?

Also, I should've known about pilotwings not launching in JP. I (usually read up on all this stuff).

Has Nintendo ever stated why the 3DS outer shells have multiple shades of color instead of one? It looks strange to me that each one seems to have 3 shades of color.

There's an Iwata Asks out there that states they wanted to diferentiate the device from the DSL/i/iXL line, and also that every layer had it's own set of information: if you check the bottom one, it's a little bigger and has all the symbols for the LEDs and switches/sliders which are protected in a smaller middle layer. Then the top one is the lid.

Has there been any official confirmation of Yoshi's Island being on the 3DS? I will buy one as soon as it's on there. :D

Get Street Fighter(or strongly consider it).

If you like that genre and that series, it's guaranteed to not let you down(unless you are a tournament hardcore fighting freak that buys joysticks and can only play with those).

From all accounts, it's a very faithful port(as good as it could be on the portable) and it adds some nice exclusive coolness.

They said they are making that game for the system.

As far as an announcement as to when it can be expected or how far along it is, not that I know of.

They also wanted to show "depth" by using several different shades, going from light to dark. I quite like it, but I can understand why the multiple hues might turn some off.

has anyone posted their impression of PES 2011? What modes are available? Saw on IGN it plays more like the PSP/PS2 versions and looks great but that's about it.

Dammit! Half the time I think the Blue looks great, and half the time it looks god awful. How am I supposed to pick which color I want!?

I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to. I wanted to trade in my DSi to pre-order the 3DS, but I read that you can transfer your downloaded things from your DSi to your 3DS.

So my question was, do I actually need my DSi to transfer the things, or is it all through the internet through my club nintendo account or something? Any help would be grateful.

I'm 99% sure you'll need it. It'll most likely simply transfer the purchase history of all downloaded software and then remove them from the DSi.

you need it. You have to download somethign from the store on both DSi and 3DS. And the store isn't out until May :/

I've basically given up. There wasn't that much I desparately wanted to keep and I think trade-in prices will drop through the floor after 3DS launch. Many high street stores in the UK (and even amazon) are offering higher than normal prices on tradeins to encourage preorders on 3DS. That means they'll have a glut of used Dsi/lite/Xl which will mean they will give you shit all if you trade in later on

did we ever figure out what the code name was? I wanna know what CTR stands for!

DS codename was Nitro (i believe abbreviated to NTR)

CTR could be a play on that. I can't think of words that would fit the Nitro theme and be abbreviated to CTR

Only two of those screenshots are actually 3D.

Is it the ones with the Jetpack Miis facing the camera? Are they for parallel viewing cause they look strange when I try cross-eyed viewing.
