Nintendo 3DS Japanese Launch Thread

Okay. This is weird. I got for first image to work, Wonkers. Can't get the second one to work.

HOWEVER, I can get cross-eyed images to "work", but they're all blurry. I tried the same image cross-eyed and then parallel. I could view the cross-eyed with both methods, and the parallel with neither.

I can get super, super close with the parallel, but I just can't seem to get it to merge completely without losing focus.

What am I doing wrong?

I know the new eShop isn't going to be available till May some time, but can you buy DSiware stuff now/at US launch?

I don't have a DSi/iXL so there's a couple DSiware games I'd like to grab when I get my 3DS.

Thanks for the link. There's some really nice quality pictures of the black and blue 3DS that show off the bottom layer of paint as well.

Wonderfuldays' pics made the blue look better, but man the black 3DS looks sweet in the engadget photos.

Plus the black 3DS actually matches the charging cradle. Sexy.

I'm quite conflicted at the moment. :(
Those pics aren't very good cuz the white balance and lighting is way off. It looks different in person.

It just takes practice. When it comes blurriness while viewing cross-eyed images, usually it just takes a bit of time for your eyes to focus. Generally I have more ease with cross-eyed than parallel.

Well, I finally pulled the trigger and pre-ordered a blue 3DS.

I didn't really see many games that interest me, the only ones I had a slight interest in were Pilotwings and Dead or Alive, because I played them both like 10 years ago.

I picked Dead or Alive, and it should be here along with the 3DS on the 26th.

Yay.

I'm pretty sure DOA got delayed till May.

It has no release date yet (May is just the date Amazon.com guessed), but that's an issue - it has no release date. It's definitely not day one, so it won't be here on the 26th.

The 3DS doesn't have access to the old DSi shop, so you'll have to wait until the May update to get DSiWare on your 3DS in any form. The new eShop is the only way to buy DSiWare on 3DS.

so everyone top five games you want to see get the 3DWare treatment, ala Yoshi's Island 3D.

1. Mother 2
2. Yoshi's Island
3. F-Zero
4. Zombies Ate My Neighbors
5. Super Metroid

#s 1-100: Virtual Boy Wario Land

(To make the 3D factor more apparent, I'm guessing that any VB games that appear will show up under 3D Classics rather than Virtual Console, even if they're still just ROMs.)

If Mother 2 or 3 ever happened, the world would end, so they probably won't happen.

I've given up ever being able to play those games on an actual handheld. The easy way.

Haha!

Sega releasing a 3D Sonic Collection (3DWare or retail) is all I currently crave in terms of Stereoscoping The Past.

All I want is Virtual Boy Wario Land.

All Nintendo have to do is code an emulator (probably already done), and shove it on as a download. Done. No effort at all, and straight away you'll have one of the best platformers ever, which will be brand new to 99% of the people playing it.

And I'm not exaggerating with that claim about being one of the best platforming games ever. It's absolutely incredible.

I wouldn't mind being wrong here, but I would not expect many top-down 2D games of that ilk on 3D Classics - due to to the originals' lack of consistency with any proper perspective, they'd probably require an impractical amount of manual graphical tweaking to work in stereoscopic 3D.

Speaking of stereoscopic 3D, have you changed your mind about it? Because 3D Classics will almost certainly cost more than their VC counterparts and are unlikely to have much in the way of new content. I'm not sure why you'd be happy about the service.

...that was a joke post, wasn't it?

Doom would be hilarious. I want to see flat sprite monsters in 3D, and fight the cardboard cutout armies of hell. Seeing them "rotate" would be just magical.

Finally got it, thanks Wonkers.

The site you linked made me realize I was trying too hard, and making the images go past each other.

With a little practice and the help of ImageZoom, I managed to get to the point where I can now view full-screen images in parallel. Cross-eyed definitely seems like a much easier method, though.

The important thing to note is, Nintendo officially released launch-day titles for all three regions. None of those official lists had DOA on them. There were rumors that DOA was going to follow a week later, but they were just rumors.

They were saying May at GDC.

Yes please. I'd buy it for a high price.

Don't know what to believe. :/

May have to change my pre-order to Pilotwings now...

Omg, please let that link be true. :(((

Even though I'm more likely to believe the accuracy of what Marty is reporting. =\

I wish they'd use that extra time to put Samus Aran in the game proper.

Or optimize the engine for 60fps in 3D, which won't happen. D:

The ESRB's entry didn't mention anything about gyro jiggle either... Hop to it, Team Ninja!
Jann Lee pec physics, plz.

The game is releasing in Japan in March still. So it's not a delay, more so a decision to have its own time to shine in the launch window months.

I've been playing with mine since UPS dropped it off. SSFIV is worderful. I had never used a 3DS before so I had no idea what to expect from the 3D and was happy to see how fast my eyes adjusted to it when you first go through the system setup. I've been playing SSFIV with the over the shoulder view which uses the 3D view better. I also tried the AR stuff which doesn't work very well unless you have good lighting but regardless it was pretty fun. My favorite of the built in stuff is definitely Face Raiders.

Black 3DS lookin real cotton candy as usual. Blue 3DS looks good on the outside, but open that shit up and.... ruh roh, hype deleted.

So is there any chance that the system may be able to take video in 3D? If not now maybe in the near future?

I know the cameras aren't that great, but that would be a cool feature to have.

I was curious, 3DS owners. Does it come with a screen protector for the bottom screen? I know the top one doesn't have one, was just curious about the bottom.

Need to invest in some Hori ones if not.

Yes, Iwata said they'd like to add it in a future update.

I'd really like to watch all the keynotes but Ninty's stream won't work for me (only seen a segment of Iwata's so far cause someone uploaded it to youtube).

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo have something on there, but people love putting their protectors on them anyway. There's nothing removable though.

No, no screen protector at bottom screen. Althought it is welling to protect scratch already.
