Nintendo Direct coming November 12 [Over]

Strongly disagree.

Galaxy > Galaxy 2 > 64 > Sunshine >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 3D World

3D World was the most underwhelming non-NSMB Mario experience I have ever played. Meanwhile both Galaxies, 64, and Sunshine are phenomenal titles and Sunshine was the last of two open-world Mario games. It's been 13 years and Mario has only gotten more linear.

Bruh close but. Galaxy 2 > 64 > Sunshine > Galaxy >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 3D World.

May the gods give us the perfect mario 64 sequel someday to topple all other mario games.

Open World 3D Mario is the best Mario but Galaxy 2 was a perfect form of linear 3d mario and I could still see there being a better version of the n64 mario formula being done.

OPINION TIME

Galaxy 2 > 3D World > 3D Land > Galaxy 1 >
Captain Toad
>>>>>>>>>>>>Sunshine>64

Glad they moved away from "open" world and fell back on what they do best: making tightly designed platforming levels. Open world and platforming just don't mix imo. 3D World and Land are the most replayable games in the series with their great pacing, but G2 has my favorite levels and presentation overall.

So we still don't know who's hosting for NA?

I feel the time is right politically for Nintendo to announce King K Rool, King Hippo and Wart as Smash characters, available christmas eve in a 3 Kings DLC pack.

Well, since we have started to share opinions...

Galaxy > (Galaxy 2 = 3D World) > 64 > 3D Land > Sunshine
>>>>>>>>>> 64 DS

All this sunshine talk has reminded me that it's literally the only mario bros game I've played that I didn't complete. I didn't really get on with it. It had its moments like with the shadowy ray boss that left paint trails behind it, but overall it felt like an oddly empty experience to me for some reason. Then again, I didn't like Mario 64 either so I'm sure to many I'm a heathen ;D

3D World > Galaxy 2 > Galaxy > 64 > Sunshine

3D World is easily my favorite mario, I love how it and 3D land brought the focus back to pure platforming. The more open games like 64 and sunshine are my least favorite, when I'm playing a platformer I don't enjoy running around looking for things. I want the level to be an obstacle course essentially and nothing else, because where Mario shines the most is the platforming. Open ended level design is just bad in general for platformers IMO.

I'm talking pure gameplay wise though, I would like the next Mario to have a more bombastic presentation like Galaxy, even if 3D world has the best music in the series to me (I loooove jazz)

So according to GAF every project has been moved to NX and Nintendo will not release any game for one full year.

Also NX will have a killer launch lineup with a new Zelda, new 3D Mario, Pikmin 4, Sunshine HD, FZero, Smash Bros for NX and a new Metroid. Otherwise they shouldn't even bother.

And it's
Galaxy 2 > Galaxy > 64 = 3D World > Sunshine > 3D Land

Yeah I don't know why linearity has suddenly become a bad thing for Mario games. Mario was always a platformer first, not a collectathon. Mario 64 seems to have balanced it well out but the level design in Sunshine was just all over the place, not to mention the lack of variety. You were forced to the missions in a certain order. This wouldn't be so bad if there were more than 6 or 7 levels in the game and every one of them didn't have a Shadow Mario or Red Coin stage.

Also, Blue Coins but they've mentioned to death already.

I don't think Zelda will make the NX launch. They announced way too early because the Wii U was selling poorly and needed some hype.

Don't forget third-parties and NX being a portable but somehow succeeding Wii U. Oh, and have you got your invitation to Wii U public burial at January 1st, 2016?

Yeah I mean who besides Nintendo and Zelda fans cares about Zelda right now? 2015 is open-world year anyway, these people are busy playing their games. So why not show it off in the Direct?

The audience us big enough its for Nintendo fans anyway and Nintendo fans gonna be watching this.

I wish I agreed, because I'd love to see it tomorrow, but about this big new Zelda and all the hype around it, I'm not convinced it is really big enough. NX reveal is when we will next see it I think.

While I think a full re-reveal might be saved until next year, I actually could see the complete title announced like that one "leak" said.

That I could definitely see happening, and maybe the concept art rumor also.

In this time the internet would fast catch notice of an new Zelda trailer and so Nintendo would still gather a huge audience even if the people wouldn't watch the direct in the first place.

That's a great point. I dunno, I hope you're right and we get new Zelda footage. Just trying to temper my expectations so I'm not too disappointed...!

It just feels like 2D mario (linear, short and unexplorable levels) and 3D mario fans want 3D mario if that makes sense...

Not really because 3D Mario is Mario in 3D. Despite what people think, 64/Sunshine and SMG1/2 don't have same style of level design. The Galaxy games are noticeably more linear and more platformer-heavy. 3D Land and World are just even more so.

3D World feels as "2D" as both Galaxies.

"True 3D Mario fans" are just Super Mario 64 fans. If they are fans of Super Mario Sunshine, then, well, they don't actually like Mario platformers but rather like action/adventures with platforming elements.

My first time following a Direct thread with GAF. Been lurking around since E3 2014, but now I'll join full-on.

And I don't even mind about the content, I just enjoy these presentations in general. Like, I feel good that they are there, hopefully we don't have to wait another 5 months for the next one.

haha, i just found out that the local fighting group I go to is going to have the direct up on a big TV when it comes on. Awesome! :D
Hype/dissapointment is always more fun when it's shared with a crowd :3

Making the levels short improved replayability a ton, and there's still secrets to find and alternate paths to explore. Linearity in a platformer is more a positive than negative imo

Alright we've debated Skyward Sword's controls, whether 3D World is a real 3D Mario or not, let's see...what do you guys think of Federation Force?

Don't care about it. Even just conceptually, FPS on 3DS is so uninteresting to me. Execution doesn't look too hot either. Hope the rumor about Next Level working on an NX project turns out to be true.

64>>>>Galaxy 2>Galaxy>>>>>>>Sunshine>3D World>3D Land

64 is still the GOAT. the best controls in a Mario game. watch a speed run and tell me you disagree.

After something of a misstep with Sunshine, Koizumi and team bounced back with the Galaxy games. the best art direction of last gen, and these games were on the shitty ass Wii. Galaxy 2 just improved on the first game. Games of the generation
besides Dark Souls

3D World and Land don't have the flaws Sunshine has but they also don't hit the same highs of that game. I love the music, art direction and tropical feel of Sunshine so damn much but it's let down by shit like blue coins. 3D World and Land feel a bit plain compared to the other 3D Marios but the level design is still immaculate.

3D Land is my least favourite but all of these games are still some of the greatest games of all time. wouldn't rate any one lower than a 9/10.

Unspeakable sin, a personal insult mailed to me directly from Miyamoto, should be canceled immediately and NLG should televise their seppuku, etc.

was digging through my saved forum pics folder and came across this, which seems oddly fitting after the 5 month or so gap:

kudos to whoever made it :D

also, the less we talk about k.rool the happier I am ¬.¬

inb4 the 3D World defense force

Galaxy 2 > Galaxy > 64 > 3D Land > 3D World > Sunshine

Granted, I'd rather mess around with Sunshine's awesome controls than play 3D World again, but there's no denying it feels woefully unpolished and even incomplete in contrast to the rest.

It's also undoubtedly the weirdest fucking Mario game ever, which leads to hilarity unto itself (Mario goes to jail! You can kill birds by squirting water at them! I rescue NPCs from the slime and they throw me!) An HD uplift would have me insanely curious not just on what they'd improve on, but how much they'd retain all that craziness.
