Nintendo E3 2006 Conference Date Revealed

The most likely reason that Nintendo sent out the mass email concerning the date and time of their pre-E3 press conference is because they went and booked a different theatre this year then in years past and the information might have leaked because of this.

WHAT: Nintendo's E3 Media Briefing

WHEN: Briefing begins at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2006.

WHERE: Kodak Theatre (home of the Academy Awards), Hollywood & Highland Center, 6801 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, CA 90028
(http://www.kodaktheatre.com/)

What's most interesting to note is that Nintendo has decided to host their conference in the much larger Kodak Theatre.

Kodak Theatre - Hollywood - Broadway? :)

I'm pretty certain they were at the Kodak Theatre last year, weren't they? Maybe even 2004 too.

you know this is Nintendo. I bet they will fuck with us and have zelda as their big game of the show again. (which would probably mean no zelda release in the near future)

I know you're just trying to temper excitement (well, I think so), but 2006 is a good year!

2002 - Good year. Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, Metroid Fusion, Mario Sunshine, Zelda: WW

2003 - Bad year. Despite games like F-Zero GX and a tiny clip of Metroid Prime 2, the big event was...Pac-Man Vs.

2004 - Good year. Reggie, Metroid Prime 2, Resident Evil 4, the DS, new Zelda

2005 - Bad year. GBA Micro, Revolution casing, Zelda again, Nintendogs again, stupid DJ Electroplankton crap

So 2006 should be a good year. Actually if you go back furhter the pattern doesn't hold as 2001 was also a good year, but that was right before the GC launch (like this E3 will be right before Revolution).

Hehe, thats what I was thinking the other day. This should be a good year, since Nintendo always seems to realize when they've had a bad year and they do actually try to make up for it. And 2003 was a very bad year, Pac Man and Zelda: 4 swords (which at the time, looked just like a SNES game), man, the "connectivity" theme of that year really never got anywhere did it?

Even I, who ended up playing Pac Man vs a whole lot, and bought 4 swords realised how much of a flop E3 2003 was for Nintendo.

2005 wasnt bad, it just wasnt as good as 2004. Which was made better because it came after E3 2003.

Oh, snap! You're right. Although we did see new Zelda footage at E3 this year, it wasn't as exciting as getting bitchslapped with the suprise of the new Zelda a year before. Also, I wanted to see Mario 128. :(

Actually they weren't in the Theatre itself (the one where the awards show is), they were in an upsairs ballroom thats usually pretty big.

This is actually a big deal now that I think of it, the Kodak theatre is huge, and no doubt Nintendo can definately fill ever seat and standing room like they did last year (in fact, last years conference was delayed a while because of the fire marshall complaining that too many people were standing in the aisles).

I believe they of course have great screens to show off the footage in the Kodak, so thats a plus too.

The Kodack Theter itself? That's fuckling awesome.

The "ballroom" they've had itin the last couple years is nothing more than a rectangular conference room with folding chairs set up.

Perhaps they've been booking that room so they could eventually get in line to get the Kodack theter itself?

Sorry to kick this one up, but I thought I'd share this (coming from nintendo-revolution.blogspot.com):

I was just a little bored and thought you might appreciate a pic of the inside of the Kodak Theater, where Nintendo will hold their pre-E3 briefing this time. The announcement is a few weeks old, but I just never looked at the venue closely. In terms of space, it´s two to three times bigger than the Grand Ballroom, where Nintendo previously held their briefings. Seating capacity in the Kodak Theater is between 3.500 and 5.000. This is the very place where the Academy Awards are dished out, better known as the Oscars ceremony. Nintendo seem to take the name of the Revolution´s graphics chip ´Hollywood´ quite seriously. Just in case any of you doubt that Nintendo will have grand news for us in May, they have sure booked a grand venue.
That really is friggin' huge :o Guess they're really to steal the show this time around - there's no room for competitors.

I rememeber last year they delayed and delayed the conference 'cos the place was so packed and the fire marshall was called or something.

Fun times at the DC++ GAF channel (:

I keep...thinking...that a week before Nintendo's pre-show, that they send out invitations and packed in with each invitation there's a pair of 3D glasses!

They don't send out invitations. All you get is a milk-ticket to give to the guard at the door.

All I know is that Steve Kent always seems to have some sort of scoop the morning of the conference on Nintendo. 2 years ago it was the DS, last year it was the Revolution case, I wonder what it will be this year?

Price.

If I'm lucky, I'll be huddled over a laptop with a few friends in our California hotel room. And then, playing it on the show floor for the next three days... :D
