Back from the conference. The media kit was a bit lacking. Just a DS lite case.
The CD had some cool stuff on it. I'm really surprised they didn't show off Kirby DS or even the Cube one, but GBA and Cube definitely got the shaft.

And no goddamn SSB shown.

Oh well, still browsing stuff here.

Wii Sports
Format: Wii™
Launch Date: TBA
ESRB: RP (Rating Pending)
Game Type: Sports
Players: 1-4, depending on the game
Developer: Nintendo

KEY INFORMATION
• Tennis (1-4 players): Players grab the controller like a racket and swing – the game will register forehands, backhands, volleys, lobs, slices, spin and power depending on how fast the user swings and at what angle. Don’t worry about moving around the court to get to the ball – the game automatically moves players into position.
• Baseball (1-2 players): Grip the controller like a bat and swat fastballs out of the park in a home run derby. Timing and bat speed will make all the difference between going yard and whiffing, so keep an eye on the ball and swing for the fences. In the two-player game, one player pitches and the other bats.
• Golf (1 player): Step up to the tee, hold the controller like a golf club and swing naturally to smack the ball onto the green. The harder players swing the club, the farther the ball will fly, so be sure to take some practice swings before going for the pin. After reaching the green, line up putts carefully, practice the stroke and try to hole out.
• Additional games may be added to the Wii Sports group.

Man, fuck winning the conference, nintendo won E3 just with sheer number and quality of most of the titles displayed....now why didn't they mention them during the conference?

Because Nintendo likes to inflict pain upon itself and keep systems from being sold. There's no other explanation for it, really. Maybe these will be playable on show floor?

Mario™ Hoops 3-on-3
Format: Nintendo DS™
Launch Date: Sept. 11, 2006
ESRB: RP (Rating Pending)
Game Type: Sports
Accessories: Nintendo DS Rumble Pak™
Players: 1-4
Developer: Square Enix

KEY INFORMATION
It’s a whole new ball game as Mario™ rocks the rim on the Nintendo DS.
• Get that magic touch. There are plenty of basketball games out there, but none with the hands-on control of Mario Hoops 3-on-3. Players use the touch screen to get their game on as they execute tricky dribbles, special passes and sweet shots – all with strokes and taps of the stylus.
• Players choose their teams of three characters from the Mario universe and hit the parquet. Power-ups like Red Shells and Bob-ombs can turn the tide as they chase down coins – they will affect the score, so players collect as many as they can as they drive to the hoop.
• Whether playing against friends on a local wireless connection, jamming through a tournament or just playing mini-games, there’s a mode for everyone.

There's some flash vids of footage that was shown at the conference:
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n10/e3_2006/index.html

Or click the "fresh experiences" & "gripping gameplay" tabs on the Wii official site:
http://wii.nintendo.com/home.html

Notice all the controller changes:
http://wii.nintendo.com/controller.html
-B trigger is now sorta angled
-added speaker of course
-smaller EXT port & connection with notches (maybe?) on either side...probably to plug into something, like a recharge station maybe?
-under the battery cover is a loophole for the wrist strap
-"a" & "b" are now "1" & "2"
-start/home/select are now + ^ -
-analog stick just has one circle on the grip and it looks like it can be clickable maybe?
-"Z1" & "Z2" are now "Z" & "C"
-C (or is it Z?) is now protruding like the analog GCN buttons

And this:
http://wii.nintendo.com/hardware.html
-sensor bar isn't wireless, plugs into USB port?
-what *exactly* is WiiConnect24, why did Iwata make such a deal over it?
-GPU is "being developed with ATi"...being, as in, it's not done?

Hey guys.

I'm currently sitting in the media room at the concention center :)

I didn't make it to any of the press conferences though...

Where there any images released of FFCC2 or DragonQuest: Swords for the Wii?
Any videos/images floating around?

I don't think enough people here are talking about how Mario vs. DK 2 lets you create your own maps and download them from other people!

They showed clips for both Dragon Quest and FFCC during a Wii montage. DQ was incredibly brief, FFCC rendered.

Oh BTW, before I go. Fact sheets for Final Fantasy III, Dragon Quest Rocket Slime and Mech Assault: Phantom Warrior shows that all three will ship for the DS this September. Mech Assault screens look shitty, but it has FMV, so hurrah, I guess.

And here's Midway's "Happy Feet" for Wii press release, just for kicks:

Happy Feet™

Based on Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming comedy adventure Happy Feet™, Midway's immersive video-game puts the player inthe "tap shoes" of Mumble, a young penguin born into a nation of singing Emperor Penguins— where each needs a heart song to attract a soul mate. Unfortunately, Mumble is the worst singer in the world... however, as it happens, he is a brilliant tapdancer! Based on the general storyline of the film, players will be able to experience life from the point of view of Mumble through music, dance and interaction with friends and enemies in his world. Through the course of the game, Mumble will grow from a small fluffy toddler into a tall, sleek, confident adult as he belly-sleds, dances and swims through Antarctica on an amazing adventure. The exciting game play features a number of different game play modes and is complemented by a playful and lively music soundtrack sure to get gamers moving!

It was hard to get a gauge on either. DQ showed first-person battles, classic-style, with classic monsters, but I guess you swung the sword to attack, ala that TV game they released in Japan. FFCC was very impressive, but it was rendered. Exciting to watch, though. the DSFFCC looks great, too.

...I'm a tad bit worried about the lack of Super Mario Galaxy playable during the Conference presentation. The fact that they chose Zelda over it makes me think that it won't be playable on the show floor...I think it's interesting that Nintendo gave sneak previews to Tennis/ExciteTruck/WarioWare/Metroid but not to SMG.

I didnt pay much attention to DQ but it was shown.

FFCC2 and FF3/CC on DS looked fantastic. FFCC2 has the same art style but characters look a bit older now, like teens.

This is quite possibly the best save ever from Nintendo.

I simply can't believe the sheer volume of games coming from them. Even GameCube is getting some love, which astonishes me.

Mario Galaxy looks absolutely incredible, so much better than Mario Sunshine. I can't wait.

Metroid looks rather meh, I'm very glad it isn't a launch title, so that Retro has more time to work on it, and so that the limelight can shine on...

Red Steel, which looks VERY good, dunno why people say it looks bad, because I was enthralled by it. Could definitely be the big Wii title.

Zelda looks so much better now than before, although I'm a bit worried about how it will control.

Everything else on Wii looked good as well. Monolith's new game sounds very interesting.

DS, once again, owns E3. Yoshi's Island 2? Holy shit.

Basically, the Wii is "always on" even when powered off, like Intel's Viiv-powered machines. When "off", it consumes about as much power as a light bulb. (Iwata didn't go into specificas as to exacrtly how much wattage it consumes in theis mode.) While in this mode, it's still able to download updates silently, so the next time you turn it "on", it will have new content for you. Just what this content is is unknown at the moment. Iwata speculated that developers could silently (and predictably) add new items like weapons or gifts or whatever into games.

Metroid Prime 3 is supposed to play perfectly on the Wii controller. 1UP has hands-on (brief). They also claim Zelda is convoluted, and takes a lot of getting used to. I don't care about how it looks. I think MP and MP2 are still two of the best-looking games available, anyway. It's new Metroid. I just hoped for Dread, too...

So, I am going to have to switch my preorder for Twilight Princess over to the Wii version... and I guess I am going to have to preorder the Wii and Mario Galaxy at the same time.... damn.

If the real Pokemon sequel isn't there, I guess Gamefreak has run into some serious dev problems to warrant two consecutive missed shows. Phoenix Wright 2 lets me overlook it, thankfully.

So far, my only complaint for the Wii is that since the focus is on the innovative uses of the controller, we have to watch game trailers featuring all these idiots trying to look cool while swinging the thing around, to distract people from the lack of a graphical upgrade. It's really embarrassing to watch. :lol

Otherwise though, I'm thrilled with what we've got so far. Mario Galaxy FTW! :D
