why-its-not-going-to-sell

This article sums up my feelings pretty well. I certainly hope Nintendo goes 3rd party and make more money by doing that as they have really great IPs. Imagine the soon to be released Zelda running on the PS4. How amazing it would look and even maybe bring more innovations to the IP because of stronger hardware. I crave for Nintendo IPs but not buying their under-powered hardware at this price.
Article was a good read. Social gaming is really destroying shit. I have no interest in multiplayer anything, but sadly it seems to be the future. How disappointing. Maybe Nintendo will surprise us over time.

They will have two platforms going forward, Switch and Mobile.

3DS is dead. It will not get a single first party release after 2017.

I wonder when the Switch will start to see the bump in games that you'd expect from combining the development power of the Wii U and the Switch though. So far it doesn't look like it's materialized.

This still seems like an nvidia sheild that can play Nintendo games. $300 is like $50-100 more than i would have expected.

Based on the system specs and also no pack-in game - $299.99 is an insane price point! This has to be some kind of a mistake or a joke lol

I'll be waiting for a price cut, or a Zelda bundle with price cut before I dip into the Nintendo Switch ...if at all.

Damn. I saw the thread title and thought "Oh wow $300 that's not bad!" Entered thread. Did not expect all this backlash. $300 seems so low nowadays..

I can't stop laughing, but mostly I'm just crying tbh... I just checked the Switch price in some of the biggest stores in Sweden...

4990 SEK !!

O_O

For reference...

Original PS4 cost 2790 SEK !
PS4 Pro cost 4290 SEK !!

Let that sink in for a bit...

Then lets translate that to US dollars: 4990 SEK = 559 USD !!!

This will booomb unless the store still have place holder prices.

Not a chance that it will launch with that price here. It's been a placeholder price on Webhallen for quite some time. It'd be considerably more expensive than what the Wii U launched at.

$300 is extremely low. I'm honestly not sure what the fuss is about.

The problem is that the Switch is lower spec and gimmicky compared to the PS4 and Xbox One and yet, it's the same price. It's merely a Wii-U.1 and that's not worth $299.99 +tax to me.

Why not get a PS4 or Xbone for the same price?

My upper limit was $250 (though I really hoped for $200), so this is pretty frustrating, especially in combination with the controller pricing + the paid online news. Went from an early purchase to a definite wait-and-see.

Good luck playing Switch software on a PS4 or XBO. Or playing XBO / PS4 games on the go for that matter.

Core games already have either system. Ask that same question to a casual gamer, and it become obvious that this system has a certain appeal and the PS4 or Xbox could never have.

32 GB
Very under powered
Expensive add-ons
Paid online with barebone feature

It's not just the 300 price, its what you dont get in that $300.

The Danish retailer Coolshop has a preorder op for 2800 DKK, which is roughly equivalent to 3600 SEK

I don't think its so much the console, as it is everything else. Peripherals are quite costly, and the lineup leaves a lot to be desired, outside of Zelda, which you can also get on the Wii U. Its quite shallow, and Nintendo really needed to knock the lineup out of the park. Mario is not even out until the holidays.

I guess they haven't really gone into detail regarding the OS?

if this thing had a decent web browser and Netflix app it could make the $300 price feel more justified.

I'm not convinced these are actual LEDs and not some sort of holes that let the lights from the Joycons through. I'm not the only one who thought so apparently :

Maybe you're right though.

I think you guys are right. Looks like no way to charge the joy cons while playing on TV without buying the separate charger grip.

Lame. Oh well. Still not canceling my preorder again. I preordered at Best Buy and have $120 or so credit at GameStop. Maybe I'll just suck it up and get a Pro Controller with the GS credit. Otherwise I'd just use it for Steam or PSN or Eshop credit since I won't be buying any other hardware anytime soon and don't buy games from there (stupid with the 20% GCU or Prime discounts).

Have they said anything about the Joy Con battery life? If that's solid (like 10+ hours) then its moot. But if it's like Dual Shock 4 length without abilty to play while charging out of the box then that sucks. DS4s suck, but at least I can plug in (have a USB port and cables by my recliner) when it dies and keep playing.

$299 in 2006 dollars is $248. The Wii launched at $249. I don't get the outcry either. The accessories are a bit steep, but the console comes with the joycons.

The accessories are the main thing. Especially if you can't charge the joy cons while playing docked without buying the separate $30 charger grip.

Pro controller at $70 is the most obnoxious as a lot of people who'll play docked a lot really wanted that and then you can leave the joy cons on the tablet so you can just grab and "switch" without hassling with taking the joy cons off the grip and putting them on the tablet and vice versa everytime you want to switch (or just charge the joy cons without buying the charger grip).

Keep in mind each set of joy cons can be two controllers. For Mario and MK it's probably ok but not ideal to use each side as an individual controller.

Yeah I see your point but I can see fights over who uses the joy cons individually and who uses the pro controller.

The problem is the Switch offers the shittiest value proposition of any gaming platform point blank, period.

I haven't read this anywhere, but do we know if the Switch will allow multiple user logins, similar to PS4 or Xbox One? Or will it only allow 1 Nintendo account per device, similar to the 3DS?

Just saw on CAG that Amazon is selling the PS4 Slim/U4 bundle for $270. Immediately put things in perspective for me.

The NS is really, really, really overpriced.
But I still preordered like a dope

If you already have a WiiU, 350 is a lot just to play Zelda. I don;t think 900p would be enough for me to care.

But if you really want to play it on a plane ride, that's the deal.

Part of it is the 3DS development studios has to get used to developing HD titles now. Will take a transition like the Wii - Wii U did

Playing Zelda on Wii U is like watching an old IYH off a copied VHS tape.

Playing Zelda on the NS is like watching it on the WWE Network in upres glory.

Even if i'm trying to forget about everything that is wrong with the console and i want to buy it just based on Zelda hype.. Man i need to spend 400 euros for the console + the game. That's insane..

The hybrid talk gives them a fake excuse but really i think, depending on your taste, you're buying a home console or a portable and that's it. And 400$ for a portable plus a game is amazingly crazy. Let's remember Vita and 3ds suffered from the 250$ price point.

Nobody will have the feeling t buy 2 things in one. You're buying something and you're using it the way you want. There is no reason for that price.

Yep, all 15 games, because that number will stay that way until forever ;)

Compared to the libraries of competing systems, Nintendo is always far at the bottom. This is the worst launch lineup I've ever seen by the way. You have Zelda - which will be the only reason people buy the machine and then two ridiculous, gimmicky games that should have been pack-in's, honestly. Oh, and a deluxe version of the Mario Kart game we've already had for a while now.

I just don't see the system lasting past Splatoon 2 and the like. Having to wait until the holidays to play a new Mario game is ridiculous and I don't think we'll see much more on the system after that. I just don't feel it's going to sell all that well and that's too bad, because I've always liked Nintendo.

Wait, are you saying Mario is the last major game we'll see on the system before it disappears into the void due to poor sales?

For about 3 hours...

At least it has a standard USB C port so all you need on most planes is a USB C cable since most have USB ports at every seat now. Aside from the shitty budget airlines like Spirit and what not anyway.

Not that the battery life doesn't suck balls, but at least it has as standard charging port to mitigate that a tad for most plane trips, car rides etc.
