Nintendo uses emulators at Japanese museum

Oh good grief, dude. Enough with the ridiculous hyperbole. Nintendo’s gonna pull brand new sealed NESs and SNESs manufactured in the 80s and 90s from their corporate archives, for the public to use? It’s just not practical, in any way. Not to mention hooking them up to modern displays.

Just accept that it makes sense in this situation, as a practical matter. Even if you don’t like it.

Also, Nintendo has entire arms of the company that literally exist to build emulators and middleware, for their own internal and external use. And have for decades.

I was just making a snarky comment about the cost of their museum/glorified gift shop ticket compared to just playing the same games at home.

You’ve clearly not seen what all the museum experience offers if that’s what you think of it. Playing games is not the main draw, in the slightest. And not to mention the games on demo there are extremely old and not for sale by Nintendo, anyway. They’re just part of NSO now. They’re just there to play, purely for nostalgia. Heaven forbid anyone is allowed to just enjoy something anymore. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah. That is the problem. Nintendo is not sourcing their own roms. They are pulling them from rom sites and making a profit off them.

Then, they turn around and sue rom sites.

It is pretty obnoxious.
That's a weird situation. I mean it is Nintendo's intellectual property. Do they not have a right to take that rom from a site and use it at will?
If I saw that someone made a copy of my IP I would feel that work is still mine. I wouldn't care how it was made. I think that is the risk you have to take when you mess with other peoples IP. You can put all the work into you want, but it's not yours at the end of the day, no one asked you to copy the IP.
I could be off base here, just my thoughts.

Nintendo has literally never gone after NES, SNES, N64, GCN emulators

They've been after Switch emulators because people literally only use them for piracy

Why is this so hard to understand if you don't have NDS (Nintendo Derangement Syndrome)?

Nintendo having an issue with illegal emulators that steal their games is very different from them using one.
LOL

There is no such thing...

Please, stop being be an ignorant corporate apologist and research what an emulator is.

If it's not their own made emulator it's hypocrisy.
It most likely is not. I'm not aware of any emulator made by Nintendo themselves that runs on Windows. And those are clearly Windows PCs (judging from the USB sound cue).

So you are saying people who use NES/SNES/N64/GC emulators don't pirate the roms?

How about people who have a Switch + PC and actually buy the Switch games but prefer to play them on PC for better visuals and performance?

Nintendo is in the wrong here. Emulators are legal. Pirated ROMs are not but that's a different thing. But they didn't go after the ROM sites, they went for the emulators. And they knew they don't need to be on the right side of the law because that's only for those who can afford the legal expenses. I don't know about Yuzu but the authors of Ryujinx would be able to win the case if they could afford it. Of course the author settled or whatever that went behind the doors. They would be stupid not to.

I don't get it, why wouldn't Nintendo be allowed to emulate their own products? You expect them to have original hardware or what? How could they control such an experience without being able to tweak anything?

Hypocrisy at its finest…emulators creator should go after them.
