- Nintendont - | Yes, you CAN play GameCube games on your Wii U!

Awesome thanks. Is there a recommended minimum class/speed? Is a Class 10 one sufficient? What's the minimum read speed I should be looking at?

It doesn't seem to matter beyond a certain class. I tried it with the card that came with the 3DSXL which is a class 4 I think and got no stutters. I couldn't tell any difference in performance between it and my 128GB class 10; Gamecube isos load very quickly.

Finally ready to give this a shot this weekend.

I got a 64GB microSD with adapter in the mail, borrowed my sister's old Wii that reads gamecube discs, and have a gamecube adapter on my WiiU.

Going to rip a bunch of discs this weekend and enjoy some great old GC games.

Was super easy to setup. Really nice that I can play with a wii u pro controller since none of my gamecube controllers work anymore so I haven't been able to play any gamecube games in a while. Now I just need to get a stand to hold the gamepad up.

Probably mentioned somewhere already, but when using the CC (and the Wii U Pro controller I'd imagine), pressing Select/- will swap A to B and X to Y, making games like Tony Hawk much more playable.

So THATS why the buttons keep switching on me... Felt like every time I was playing the buttons switched. Haha.

Neat. I read up on Nintendo's official FAQ about Wii U only supporting 32gb sdhc for certain functions and wanted to be sure.

Gonna go shoppin' for a sd and some GameCube games.
You have to reformat it first you know.

Honestly I have no idea why SDXC switching to exFAT as a default is even a thing.

The WiiU has hit that £150 price sweet spot I was waiting for, so I think I'm ready to jump in.

Just to be clear.

1. In order to hack the vWii do I need to be on a particular firmware?

2. How easy can I find the exploited games?

3. Do Wii and GameCube games look significantly better on the WiiU than they do on the original Wii? I've always thought about saving some unplayed Wii and Gamecube games until I get a powerful gaming rig, but I don't think that will be anytime soon, so is the WiiU a good compromise?

1. No. Any will do, and as it's entirely Wii-mode, it will likely never be patched (the wii mode is hacked beyond saving)

2. Very easily. Any GAME or CEX should at least have Smash Bros Brawl (£12 in GAME), and you can get your money back by trading it in after.

3. They look significantly better to the point where the Wii U actually gives the best image quality for gamecube games out of all the options, even the £120-worth gamecube component cables. It's fantastic.

I currently have my modded wii and Wii U together, but I am thinking of doing this with my Wii U.

Does it upscale the games like dolphin or just make them appear more clearer?

You're using the term loosely.

The Wii U upscales the 480p gamecube image to 1080p. It does not change the native rendering resolution of 480p into something higher, which is what Dolphin does. Even so, the Wii U's image is great.

Sounds excellent, thanks a lot for your quick reply.

My final dilemma is a preference for the black colour, but it's not worth the extra price. GAME apparently sell it at £149.99 but it's out of stock. Oh well, it will match my white 3DSXL :).

To add to that, because Smash Bros. Brawl is so easy to find here's a video walkthrough using Smash to achieve vWii quickly. Comes with a .rar with everything you need.

If you want to, of course. Tried it myself, very dependable.

Good to know it looks great.

Out of curiosity I have my wii connected with component cables at 480p, is the image quality that much clearer due to the upscaling to 1080p. As currently with the component cables on the wii the image quality is still a bit fuzzy and blurry.

There should be no fuzziness and blurriness when it upscales to 1080p.

Yes, it looks nicer on Wii U than letting your TV upscale the Wii. Everything appears sharper and the color is richer. At the end of the day it's still an upscaled 480p image either way, but it's enough of an improvement that I enjoy the experience of playing Wii games much more (not to mention Gamecube)

I feel like if the Wii had an HD upscaler like this in 2006, much of the complaining about its SD graphics would have disappeared. The resolution wasn't the problem so much as the scaling on most TVs made everything look especially ugly.

Thanks for the replies.

This pretty much has made me decide to do it. Thankfully I have a copy of ssbb and 2gb sd card lying around so I can do it.

Btw, after installing the homebrew channel, I can use any sd card after that to put the games on right?

I forget, but does the official gamecube adapter work with Nintendon't and an SD card for games? I'm planning on soft modding my Wii U after its warranty is up.

I just updated to the latest version and now it keeps my Wiimote as controller 1. Is there any way to disable it? I want to play with the Wii U Pro controller.

Don't use the wiimote to select the game. Use your pro pad, and if it's still defaulting to the wiimote, roll back to the previous version or just...take the batteries out.

I used the Pro controller to select it, but I had to enable the Wiimote to start Nintendon't. I found an easy workaround, just click on the red button of the Wiimote. It will try to sync for a few seconds and then disconnect.

Also anyone tried the mod to use nunchunk with wiimote for fps and with IR? it seems glitchy or am doing something wrong, the latter is more likely.

How does this work? Some pal games never had progressive scan option. Does this essentially turns pal games like ntsc ones, regarding 480p?
The option patches the game to switch on progressive.

Similarly, windscreen option adds widescreen sorry where there personality was none.

Results vary depending on how the game was programmed. See the compatibility list: http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/Nintendont_Compatibility_List

Thank you for this topic, everything works flawlessly.

I have one question though: Is it possible to go in the Homebrew Channel or Nintendont without actually using a Wiimote? I borrowed one from my friend to do this stuff, but I don't intend to play a game that needs one.

The <=2GB card is only needed for the Brawl exploit Smash Stack since Brawl itself cannot read SDHC cards. Some other exploits can use larger cards (like the Letterbomb on the original Wii), and of course, once the homebrew channel is installed, yes, any SD card works.

on Wii, yes. Bootmii allows you to bypass the system menu and the use of a Wii Remote.

on Wii U? nope. you can't install Bootmii on Wii U and you need a remote to enter Wii mode. there's a way to enter Wii Mode from startup but you still need the remote inside Wii mode to access the homebrew channel or any channel.

Ok thanks. I'll buy a cheap one.

For some reasons, I was sure I could play Project M with my Wii U Pro Controller. :(

I thought I would hate moving from dolphin to this but the loss in fidelity isn't as high as I thought. Perhaps because Wii U using HDMi?

Is there any way to get my Yoshi's Story VC game over from my Wii to Wii U without doing a system transfer? I still want to keep it on the Wii, but would like to put it on my Wii U so I can leave just one system out and pack the other one away.

You can backup your NAND on the Wii before you do the system transfer. After the system transfer finished, you can do a NAND restore on the Wii and all your games will be on both systems. Just don't ever load up the Wii Shop Channel on the Wii or it will revoke access to the games on your Wii and you'll need to do the NAND restore again.

Never got a response, but can someone try using Nintendont with 2+ Dualshock 3/4 controllers for me again?

For some reason it won't allow 2 Dualshock 3/4 controllers for HID and I've tried it with multiple ports. I use a GC adapter but some of my friends who want to use Nintendont only have Dualshocks as alternatives.

Is it because of the low power USB ports or something?

Surprised everyone is saying it looks so wonderful. I booted up Twilight Princess and it really didn't look any better than it did on my original Wii with component cables, so it looked rather bad unfortunately.

F-Zero and Melee look good though.

Just a quick PSA: USB Loader GX has been updated and is now fully compatible with Nintendont again. Not only that but, as far as I can tell, it will now use Nintendont's own config file when loading a game (unless you explicitly change it on a global or per-game level).

I'd like to be able to play F Zero GX on my Wii U but installing this kind of thing is far beyond my capabilities.

Why is that? It's actually a extremely simple and straightforward process once you have a game, an SD card and the corresponding exploit.
