- Nintendont - | Yes, you CAN play GameCube games on your Wii U!

So with this mornings nintendo direct (1/14/15) How do you guys think the advent of downloading Wii games via eShop and playing them on Wii U will effect vWii and any mods we might have?

Is the Wii U emulating the Wii games? Or is it booting a Wii image in the Wii U's native vWii mode? Is gamecube next? I just got my Wii working with nintendont and don't plan on downloading SMG2 or Prime Trilogy if it effects Nintendont or HBC in any way...

Seems to be Wii U software, so that is why it has access to the Gamepad's controls.

Its working through interpretation, similar to how nintendont works with gamecube games on Wii mode or GBA games on the 3DS.

Homebrew wont be able to utilize the features until wii U mode is hacked.

Looking forward to Wii U mode being hacked someday. Who knows, we may even get a N64 emulator!

Has anyone got Donkey Kong Jungle Beat to work with the official Gamecube adapter so you can use the bongos?

Is there something special you have to do to get it to work?

Thanks in advance :)

Edit: Init..HID devices FAILED!

Once I turn on Hid devices in the menu the games won't load anymore.

Has anyone tried this with patched GC games?

Seems like it would be an easy way to play F-Zero AX at home on a Wii/WiiU.

1) Rip your GX disc.
2) Patch GX disc image.
3) Boot and play.

Should work, yes.

But Nintendont supports the Triforce arcade games right out of the gate.

Assuming its not illegal/against the rules, would someone be kind enough to explain to me how to do this as if I were a small child? I already have GX ripped.

as a sidenote, the actual AX game from an arcade machine has different physics than GX. you can't play with these physics on a normal GX disc even if you load AX mode since that still uses GX's physics.

Didn't realise that - thanks!

If you launch GameCube games through a Loader, it's as simple as enabling cheats and choosing to enable AX-Mode from there.

eg. using Configurable USB Loader (USB Loader GX would also work)

The main obstacle there being finding a copy of an AX disc. I already own a copy of GX. Just never got around to trying AX mode when the news broke last year.

Never knew that. Always assumed the physics model was the same between the games.

Quick question, there were some threads yesterday about the eshop version of SMG2 not launching, did that turn out to have anything to do with homebrew/Nintendont? Otherwise I'll set this up over the weekend.

No. The guy had a dodgy external hard drive.

Once he installed smg2 to his internal memory it worked fine.

Any way to get a .gci save that I downloaded off of the internet to work with Nintendont that doesn't involve Dolphin? I have an older PC that is not compatible with Dolphin. I bought my daughter Sonic Mega Collection, and don't want to have to go through the damn hoops to unlock all of the games.

Edit: nevermind, got it.

Is there any benefit to ripping your games of your own discs instead of just downloading an iso? (Is that illegal even if you own it and thats the reason?)

1. Legalities
2. You get clean rips as opposed to ones with potential errors
3. You get the correct region for your game without any hassle, which is ideal to continue your saves.

It's bloody amazing how when you finally get around to starting a project, you realize how big every SD card you have is, and you wonder where all your sub 2gig SD cards went.

Are there any >4GB SD cards that work in the Homebrew Channel and Nintendont?

My 16GB and 32GB ones don't work and I thought you only needed a 2GB for the initial exploit for Indiana Pwns

EDIT: Err... I should refresh the page before I post. Thanks gingerbeardman :)

Ahhh. My 32GB SD didn't show in the Homebrew Channel because it was GPT instead of MSDOS. I must have done that in gparted last time I was messing about with my SD cards.

IndianaPwns doesn't seem to work with the 4 gig that I have. It loads fine, but can't read the card once the break begins. I get the "no data to load, hanging" error, which seems to happen with cards over 2gigs.
Right you are. All exploits that work in Wii U require 2GB cards. Apologies.

I finally received my official GC adapter, and it's working flawlessly with Nintendont, but there's only one problem... How do I go back to the game selection screen when using a GC controller? When playing with the Wii U Pro controller, I pressed the Home button, but isn't there anything I can do with the GC controller? Do I have to hard-reset the console?

Reset via button combo (R + Z + Start)
Power off via button combo (R + Z + B + D-pad Down)

Read the GBAtemp thread and apparently this button combination only work with GC controllers plugged directly in a Wii. It doesn't work with the USB adapter.

I saw I need to edit the controller.ini file to specify a button combo to reset or power off with a HID device. Meh, I'll keep my Wii U Pro nearby to exit a game.

Reset works for me with a GameCube controller connected through an official adapter. Dunno about Shutdown. I never tried it.

My button combo definitely works on my Wii U Gamecube controller adapter.

L+R+Z+Start/Pause, I believe it is.

Apologies for being slightly off topic here but what's the best storage medium for using this/homebrew on the Wii U in general.

I'm not particularly fussed about storage space so would I be better off buying a larger capacity SD card than splashing out on an external HDD?

This is for storage of my ripped games etc, I've already invested in a 2gb card to do the actual hack.

*Edit* - I know USB sticks are frowned upon for reliability so I'll steer clear of those.

Yeah, that one works with the adapter for sure and takes you back to HBC. There has to be a way to go directly to Nintendont's game list though, right?

A number of people on here have used SD cards. I only have a 2GB card also in my Wii U, managed to get F-Zero GX on it and it ran fine.

SD cards are the best option imo for gamecube games as you avoid the Wii U side conflicts you get with a USB device.

If you're finch it that often you might want to user a loser that can launch Nintendont. I use USB Loader GX. Pressing Home in Nintendont returns me directly to my game list in GX.

Excellent, thanks both. Would I be able to boot ripped wii games from the SD card too?
I've had no luck rubbing Wii games off SD with USB Loader GX, but I heard you can using CFG Loader .

What side conflicts are you referring to? Are you using U Stealth with your HDD?

Yep. USB Loader GX works exclusively with USB devices, not with SD cards. It's a great loader, but it's a pity that it lacks a basic functionality that most major loaders have had for ages.

You can use a SD-to-USB adapter in one of the back ports, though. I have a 64GB microSD with an adapter on the back for Wii games and a 32GB SD card on the front for GameCube games :)

Nice idea!

I know it has come up before in this thread but I'm getting a Exception DSI message when trying to run games from Nintendont on my Wii U.

The problem earlier in the thread seemed to be related to changing from USB to SD however I'm already using an SD card.

Any ideas?
This is what I've done so far:
Used Smash Stack to install the Homebrew Channel
Also installed Smash Stack on my Wii and used Cleanrip to rip some games
Installed Nintendon't by putting it in the apps folder
Booted it via the Homebrew Channel

The problem is that when I load Nintendont and enter the SD card (it sees an iso as it kicks you out if there's no files found) no games are displayed but it allows me to press A to boot. As soon as I press A it jumps to a black screen with the Exception DSI error and loads of other text.

Cheers!

*edit* could it possibly be a FAT32/NTFS issue? I used the SD card out of the box without checking what it was formatted as. What's the usual format for out of the box cards?
Or do I also need to install a custom loader of some sort first?

Did you put the isos in separate folders and renamed them to "game.iso"? I got a similar error the first time I set up Nintendont, turns out I had forgotten to rename the files.

Yep! My only worry was that the outputted file from Cleanrip didn't have an extension so I manually added the .iso. Maybe that's it? Show extensions is enabled in windows and the other files that Cleanrip added had extensions, just not the iso.

Gamecube games need to be on fat32
