is there any Wii U homebrew that will let you play Blu Ray discs? I modified a Wii to play DVDs...

Pretty sure I've read the drive in the U can technically read Blu Rays but Nintendo just doesn't want to pay the license fee right?

there's no wii u homebrew released to the public.

all this thread is about is the Wii mode inside wii u.

Gamecube games need to be on fat32

Ace, I wasn't sure what file format the card was out of the box. Now that I'm home I can see that it is indeed FAT32.

Aaaaaaand it turns out I was being a dullard and file extensions were indeed turned off, therefore it was named game.iso.iso
I feel like slapping myself! Rogue Leader here we come!

when you rip your games name disc 1 "game.iso"
name disc 2 "disc2.iso"

the disc 2 ISO should load automatically without you having to do a thing.

You need to create a folder with whatever name you want ("thetwinsnakes", for example). Inside, you have to name the first disc "game.iso" and the second disc "disc2.iso". Nintendont takes care of the disc switching by itself.

Don't think it works like that. I know for a fact the Wii Mode won't let you play DVDs, since the Wii's drive worked at a different speed?

it was the same as DVD drive but Nintendo made it impossible to read DVDs after certain revisions (older Wiis with homebrew could read DVDs)

it is bad for the Wii lenses since those lenses weren't made for that so it isn't recommended to use the Wii as a DVD player unless you don't mind the disc drive dying.

Is it possible to play ripped DVDs via a HDD though, like USB loading for games?

It could be a bad rip. What games are you having problems with? What format are you using?

On the gamepad, yes. With the gamepad, no.

I just tried ripping PSO ep III with cleanrip. It'll boot now... sort of. It gets past the black screen and instead just hangs at the gamecube error screen telling me to refer to the gamecube instruction booklet.

Are you ripping to a drive or memory card that you know is 100% error free?

Memory card. I don't even think I've ever used this card before today.

How do I go about checking for errors? I've tried two different cards at this point & I've tried moving files to an external hdd and it still won't boot...

So, the game should work.

Are you using a trimmed ISO? You should use the full size, untrimmed ISO for best results.

Well, I'd recommend doing a full format using SD Formatter which should mark any bad parts of the card so they are not used.

On Mac, I use SDspeed to check for errors http://www.flagsoft.com/cmswp/en/products/sdspeed-sd-card-memory-speed-test/

If you like the command line, you can check for errors with http://oss.digirati.com.br/f3/

Thanks for this post, it was pretty easy to set-up. Only thing I had to get was a 2GB SD card for smashstack exploit.

Nintendont is damn impressive, doubly impressive it works on Wii U with GameCube controller support via the smash bros. adapter.

I haven't done anything to the ISO. All I did was rip it in clean rip, rename it and plop it into the wii u, so it should be untrimmed, as I'm unfamiliar with the term and dont recall explicitly doing anything to "trim" it.

I'll attempt to reformat, I guess.

Welp, the drive I was using died. I need a new one. Anyone got any recommendations for single cable powered HDD's at 320gb or higher?

I'm trying to rip F-Zero GX and Viewtifl Joe, but every time I insert a GCN disc, my Wii U spits it right out. I've tried both vertical and horizontal setups.

Any suggestions?

Hi guys, sorry if this has been answered before, but if I rip my NTSC-U discs, will Nintendont play them on my PAL Wii U? I've only ever used them with a Freeloader boot disc before on my GC.

Also, thanks for the excellent OP. I'd been trying to figure out a way to play my Gamecube stuff on my PC monitor for ages. (Not a fan of software emulation.)

yes, its totally region free.

you can also force progressive scan in PAL games to basically get the same quality as an NTSC version (framerate is an issue in some games without a pal 60hz option though, of course)

*groan*

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

I've used an entirely separate SD card, reformatted it, reloaded all the old homebrew stuff on it, and made a new cleanrip ISO from the wii.

I cannot get an ISO to boot on the Wii U. It just keeps giving me this damned "An error has occurred. Turn the power off and refer to the Nintendo GameCube Instruction Booklet for more information." message.

What the hell am I doing wrong? :/

EDIT: GOT IT! It was progressive scan fucking things up =/

So i think im hitting an error of some sort.

I got all the games cleanly rip. I put them on a SD card , when I go to boot the games (zelda collection and MGS TTS) it gets to the step of "mounting" and then says error and shuts down, reboots the entire wiiU. so what happened?

getting Error - 13

Make sure your storage it's formatted to FAT32 correctly, your homebrew setup is current, and if you're using a loader that you're using the latest version.

Do I need to do anything special to connect my Wii U Pro Controller? I tried to load a GameCube game but it says to make sure that the controller is plugged in.

you load up nintendont and literally just press a button on the wii u pro controller whilst in the menu. you dont need to do anything else at all.

make sure you have "Native Control"/"Native Input" turned off, that's for old Wii consoles with GC ports.

I had the HID option set to on. Thanks for your help!

Do you know what I should use to run Wii games from an SD card or, if necessary, a USB stick /drive?

Cfg USB loader is outdated

Use USB Loader GX or Wiiflow. They have support for Nintendont too, with nice boxart scraping and other features
