No Indictment in Ohio Wal-Mart Police Shooting

It's the first thing I think of. People have become extremely sensitive about guns in public. It's a a hot button issue on a lot of people's minds.

Certainly depends who's holding it, for the most part..some people shake their dicks/aim guns at offices..some just stand there and get got.

Walmart is liable because the bb gun was supposed to be in its packaging. It was just left out on the shelf and john crawford picked it up.

http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/gp9.68

(A) The individual right to keep and bear arms, being a fundamental individual right that predates the United States Constitution and Ohio Constitution, and being a constitutionally protected right in every part of Ohio, the general assembly finds the need to provide uniform laws throughout the state regulating the ownership, possession, purchase, other acquisition, transport, storage, carrying, sale, or other transfer of firearms, their components, and their ammunition. Except as specifically provided by the United States Constitution, Ohio Constitution, state law, or federal law, a person, without further license, permission, restriction, delay, or process, may own, possess, purchase, sell, transfer, transport, store, or keep any firearm, part of a firearm, its components, and its ammunition.

(B) In addition to any other relief provided, the court shall award costs and reasonable attorney fees to any person, group, or entity that prevails in a challenge to an ordinance, rule, or regulation as being in conflict with this section.

(C) As used in this section:

(1) The possession, transporting, or carrying of firearms, their components, or their ammunition include, but are not limited to, the possession, transporting, or carrying, openly or concealed on a person's person or concealed ready at hand, of firearms, their components, or their ammunition.

Ohio law is not ambiguous on this, Walmart doesn't owe anyone shit.

That's YOU saying it, not me. I feel for his family, it's a senseless shooting.

If YOU can't see anything awkward in walking around a public place with an air rifle (that looks real to the naked eye), then that's that.

Moving on...
No that's what you've been doing this whole time.

Okay then explain to me how is supposed to purchase an item that he picked up off of the shelf?

Correct me if I'm wrong but... that means squat, because that still isn't even illegal.

When I saw the thread title I was going to get upset but then I though "LOL what did I expect" and then got sad instead :/

And as always there's a defense force here too? Or if they were just misinformed hopefully they have a better understanding of the context of this entire thing now.

That was me. Here's the relevant video of what the prosecutor says was the shooting:

http://www.whio.com/videos/news/walmart-shooting-in-store-video-shows-crawford/vCtBwq/

It looks pretty clear to me that he doesn't spin around with the gun. In fact he isn't even facing the officers when they shot him. I find it really hard to believe that they gave him a reasonable amount of time to respond to any orders.

Yeah, i placed edits in that post after watching both the WHIO security videos

Stop with the bs it does not really matter whether or not it was a real weapon seeing as ohio is open carry and he did not break any laws.

Another poster called it a toy and asked my opinion of whether or not I thought it was a toy and if not, then what. And that's my explanation.

I am not the one that threw down that particular gauntlet.

The gun was being sold in the public place he was carrying it. The man was supposed to carry it to the register via telekinesis? You know how ridiculous you sound right now?

Or you know, maybe a store employee should be walking any purchase like a rifle or an air rifle up to the register to help prevent this very situation? I dunno. That makes sense to me.

I'll bet this wal-mart doesn't just hand over actual rifles to customers to put in their cart.

Yea I just left that one alone. As a person who owned bb/pellet guns a a child, they are toys. You shoot squirrels and cans with them. But, opinions.

I wrote something witty, but I can't hide my sadness with sarcasm anymore.

The saddest thing is seeing my mom's reaction to stories like these. She can't even be angry anymore, she just sighs and shakes her head.

It's crazy to think about, but I am in the first generation of people in my family to be fully born after the passing of the 60's civil rights laws. Not even one full generation removed. That's why I get so angry when people describe the movement as "A long time ago!" because it isn't.

Cops were justified. Don't understand why they thought someone should be charged.

Real talk. If you're holding a toy designed to look like a weapon and a cop gives you orders, you should do exactly what the cops tell you to do.

Usually, you don't use "real talk" to preface idiocy

Did you watch the video? Have you done any research on this at all? Did you read any of the numerous posts/articles/information that the exact opposite of what you seem to think is accurate?

Stop posting rubbish.

If people wonder about why the people of Ferguson rioted and protested, take a look at this case. I cant find it on any main news site. So sad.

That video was pretty horrifying. I don't understand how the officers aren't taken to court over this. Hopefully the callers are indicted and taken to court.

If the people who actually committed the shooting, in a position of authority and profession, are not going to be punished or held accountable for it, why should the caller?

At most the caller should be charged with filing a false police report. The shooting is not his liability.

Just gonna skip over my question?

Again, why is that you only show up when you feel there's justification of the police killing a black person?

The silence is deafening.

Glad I'm not the only one to notice she does that, not only in this thread all the way back to the original Trayvon thread then the trial thread as well, multiple times in the Ferguson thread.

I don't feel it's productive to respond to someone who is openly hostile to me in threads that I don't even participate in.

It looks like he is relaxed, swinging the air rifle at his side without pointing it anywhere, and then is suddenly surprised and shot.

No audio, so we can't say for sure. Maybe the police were just off camera yelling orders at him and he was completely unfazed, giving no outward sign he even noticed their existence.

Or maybe it is exactly what the video tells us. He was blissfully unaware that a team of cops was coming to kill him, swinging the air rifle harmlessly at his side, and was shot only instants after the police (presumably) yelled orders and startled him. Orders he wouldn't have had time to process in that situation.

All of which could have been prevented by someone on the loudspeaker saying "shopper in aisle 11, someone reported you as having a real gun and pointing it at kids. Real or not, please put it down as the police have arrived." Among other ways. Instead they charged in and killed him before he knew what was happening. It's just too sad.

You remember the "reflective clothing" nonsense?

You're not posting in this thread?

Doesn't matter in this case, unfortunately for him and his family..they must be utterly devastated by this ruling. Just adding insult to unwarranted death.

Obviously the rules don't apply the same to nonwhites, but I bet there are standardized police protocols for responding to open carry. I imagine the grand jury heard none of that though as the police probably got an out by blaming the 911 caller for claiming he was threatening and violent.

Weren't there some white guys carrying around REAL loaded AR-15's at a Chipotle just a few months ago during some open carry stuff? Seemed like society responded differently during that. Didn't hear about them getting shot. Wonder if that had anything to do with their race.

I believe someone got banned earlier in this thread for a similar post...

I'm stunned that they can officially claim he ignored orders when there's video evidence showing the opposite. He clearly never knew they were there until the second they shot him.

These officers may not deserve the most severe charges, since they were working with poor information, but at the very least, they're not fit to serve. Any idiot can show up shooting. I thought police received training. And I don't mean target practice.

Sickening.

Omg and "safety colors" had me dying..
Yeah those threads really showed me the mental gymnastics some people go through to victim blame when said victim is black.
I believe someone got banned earlier in this thread for a similar post...

He wrote it about another poster not about this fine country of ours...
The two posts aren't similar.

Which country are you from again?

Probably the US.

There is audio in the video I saw, although it's coming through the 911 phone call, so it's hard to make out distant sounds:

http://www.whio.com/news/news/crime-law/special-grand-jury-selected-john-crawford-case/nhRwM/

I don't hear them at all until the instant of the shot. He clearly didn't, either. They snuck up and surprised him.

One part or me thinks you cant really blame the police in a situation like this as a witness called in saying there is a man with a gun; they show up and there is indeed a man with a gun, but the way he is just killed with no warning....I don't know what to make of it. They did not try at all to deescalate the situation if there was one, just bam, bam, bam.....oh the witness was wrong. That fucking witness, ugh, two people dead because he embellished his story.
