Once pirates Show up you might as well just let them shoot you down and collect your grave later. waaaay better than having a stressfull dog fight with unfair AI" and wasting Ressources for your shield.. Ugh -_-

I've died 4 times from pirates and two of those times, something on my ship has busted. Once it was an easy fix with available resources and the other time it was not. So maybe not the best solution, unless you're willing to risk an upgrade getting borked.

I've found dogfights to be pretty easy. The autoaim is very generous. Just try to have a stockpile of oxide like iron and if your shields go down be quick to recharge them.

So I 100% my first planet and flew to the other planet but now what do I do? No other planets in sight and I have no "Mission".

Two questions:

1. Did you redeem the pre-order ship?
2. Did you talk to the red orb thing at your crash site and accept the "path"?

(I don't think #2 should matter for the starting tutorial stuff though.)

Use the phase beam instead of the photon cannons. I dropped all upgrades off the pulse cannon and went all in on upgrades to phase beam. It's homing if the enemy is near your reticle and it's instant instead of trying to get the slow moving projectiles to hit. Press X at a rate of twice a second instead of holding the button down and overheating won't be an issue. Ships drop like flies and you will feel a lot better out in space. You will be able to handle hoards of pirates.

Same with my multitool. The projectiles are too slow on the other weapon so it's just easier to use my mining laser offensively. Add rail shot adapter and sentinels will also drop like flies.

I haven't lost a dog fight past my first fight...

And the one time I deliberately took the space alert to stage 5.

Mother of god, I want to face that again with a much more geared up ship.
They throw a damn capital ship at you.

In regards to solving those numeric puzzles in some of the Shelters and Observatories.

Most of them are rather simple and follow a strict pattern

Using an example

Say we have one with a pattern of

1234 - 2341 - 3412 - XXXX

If you notice the 1 moved to the left and is now at the end of the order, and see the next number the 1 moved to left again one more space. Since the pattern is consistent the answer to this would be 4123 since it shows the numbers are constantly moving in one step on each following row.

Also as for the multiplicative number puzzles

1 - 2 - 6 - 24 - 120 - XXX

The solution is and always follow a consistent pattern.

The row of the number is important since there is 5 numbers shown keep that in mind. The solution is to take the previous number's answer and multiply it by the next order on the list. As you can see below

1 X 1 = 1
2 X 1 = 2
3 x 2 = 6
4 X 6 = 24
5 X 24 = 120
6 X 120 = 720

I hope these help you solving the number puzzles a bit easier folks.

One last thing, I have found a blueprint for a 4th Tier of upgrades. I originally thought the limit was Sigma, Tau, and Theta, but there is a level even higher than Theta which is Omega.

I've found a few hanging on the walls of Colonial Outposts. I'd check there.

Actual multi tools hanging on the walls? Or just tech for multi tools? Because I've explored a LOT of buildings and only found tech. I have to buy new multi-tools from NPCs on the rare occasions they offer them to me.

So are console owners here having issues with crashes or hardlocks?

I had one super intensive planet that caused crashing. I was also often down to 20fps just walking around there. Most planets seem fine though, so I'd suggest just moving on if you think it's related to an intensive location.

I love this game, I just wish I understood the HUD.

Why are there multiple off-planet icons for shelters and abandoned buildings all the time? I don't want to see that stuff when I'm on another planet. Are they particularly important ones or something? Sometimes I end up with 10-12 icons all spinning around my periphery and it makes it so hard to navigate. Sometimes an icon is blue at the edge of the screen only to become red when it lines up.

And as for removing those white waypoints, it's been 2 days and I still can't figure it out.

I've played for about 25 hours and have found maybe 2 multi-tools. It's one of the biggest aggravations in the game, imo. I have a 30-slot suit and an 8-slot multi-tool. Frustrating.

Actual multitools.
I upgraded my starting 5-slot for a really cool 8-slot already loaded with really good upgrades. It was just hanging in an outpost/facility.

Lmao if anyone needs help with the math "puzzles" in this game they must have not made it past second grade.

I've got a hint I haven't seen posted (although It probably is I'm always LTTP).

When you're mining something if you press the scanner you'll see the outlines of blocks appear over the deposit. Each of those blocks is one unit of what you're mining.

You can ignore the areas where the blocks don't appear because you won't get anything but also it's worth mining even the little slivers if they have a block because it's still worth 1 unit.

This saved me mining areas and getting nothing from it in large deposits after I figured it out.

I stood on the top of a massive gold pillar last night and bore a hole down the center. Made my own gold cave then glitched out, fell into nothingness below the planet's surface and started running out of oxygen. There's liquid down there!

Careful with those. Next thing you know you'll be drowning inside the planet!

Did the upper portion of the deposit become impossible to mine? It won't react to my tool anymore though there's plenty left.

It's a blessing and a curse. Means you're exploring your systems well though, and you'll always know where to find a trading post when you need to. It would be nice to be able to disable/enable them at will though, and set waypoints. Would love a decent map for planets and systems as well.

Actual multitools.

Man, that's awesome. I'll have to keep looking! I have a 10 slot from an NPC but I'd love to get a much bigger one. I have a 27 slot ship, and so many slots on my suit that my next upgrade will cost around 150k. Just my multi tool that's lacking now...

Yeah it is kind of disappointing that the only puzzles I've seen are cyclic permutations and factorial puzzles.

Edit: Oh I guess there's that subtracting pattern one too.

Thanks for that hint.
This explains why my aluminium didn't fill up, even though I was digging a hole twenty meters deep.

So I made it to my first space anomaly and
found Nada and Polo. Polo gave me the Atlas Pass blueprint (yay!) and Nada is giving me these 3 choices.

-Resources to aid exploration
-Find a shortcut to the centre
-Resume the path of the Atlas

What do each give?

So I fell through the world on my second planet (landing in water). I could not get back to the surface, but I didn't drown because you could swim up enough to crest the water surface. I could even use the jetpack. Had to restart, rather annoying as I had just gotten a good schematic.

Think I've encountered one more type. Pity there aren't more but they must be impossible to balance.

I don't understand one thing. Can anyone explain where we get the audacity to rename all these planets and lifeforms when they've clearly already been "discovered" and colonized by these other alien species?

So many goddamn questions...

Should I sell Atlas Stones? I feel like they're important but having 5 on me means that whereever I go I'm pestered by attackers.

What's more, when you kill an attacker they drop loot, but it always disappears by the time I'm ready to get to it. In a game about getting resources this is really frustrating and makes the dogfights feel kind of like wasted time.

Yeah, this is one of the dumbest things about the game's core idea. I thought we'd be exploring planets devoid of intelligent space-faring life along with inhabited ones, but this entire universe has been discovered multiple times over. And seeing ships fly overhead all the time really kills the sense of isolation they were going for, imo.

Wait.

Okay.

I found the
Atlas Anomaly
but didn't get the Pass.

What is even going on.

it's not at the Atlas upload point, it's at the space anomaly. Those are two different things.
Next star system you warp into after the Atlas upload point will probably have a space anomaly.

Not sure if my luck of starting on such an awesome planet ( gr8 weather, no rads, loads of wildlife, docile sentinels, a lush red/blue forest environment with mountains and DEEP cave systems) had clouded my judgement
, but after 6 hours I'm loving the game and I've yet to even start up my ship. I was in heaven for my entire first play session. I learned 56 alien words, scanned every animal on the planet, upgraded my multi tool a few times, earned 700,000 credits and upped my suit capacity 4 times.

Early opinions are that it is everything I came in expecting and more. Solid 8/10 so far for me. I'll see how I go when I finally enter space tonight.

What is the "sol" in the extreme survivability stat? Days?

Apparently I will get my next level in 0.0 sols. I was on an extreme heat planet for like an hour and it didn't seem to update. Left the system so guess I will have to find another.

What's the best way to try and find a crashed ship? I thought maybe using beacons or transmissions but they always end up just leading me to trading posts.

Just fly around and check the ? markers?

If I left the system without going to the anomaly, is it unlikely I'm going to get the pass? Wonder if I should (can?) go back.

Does hazard/shield protection stack? I got a few Sigma and Tau and I'm wondering if I should just get the Tau ones? Or is there a benefit to putting them next to eachother like the stamina ones?

I just posted this to reddit, and would like some opinions here, too.

I've been playing on PS4 for about 12 hours now, and I'm really enjoying the game on some levels. The feeling of flying down onto a planet, hopping out of the ship, and taking that first look around hasn't gotten stale yet, and I don't see it happening any time soon.

That said, my biggest complaint (and I think a lot of people's) is that the universe doesn't feel very 'alive'. Now, since it's such a vast universe, that might be the entire point. If that's the case, though, why are there several aliens on each planet, all chilling in their buildings? I don't have a problem with this, but I have few ideas to make it all feel a little more lively:

  • Make the aliens hanging out in the buildings move around a bit. Nothing huge, just have them look at the plants around the room, or go outside and look at the other buildings on the site if there are any. Make it feel like a dude actually lives there.
  • Have AI ships fly around planets and randomly land and mine some stuff, or just look around. All of the aliens that you can buy items off of have some sort of mineral in their inventories, so they got them somehow. It doesn't have to be every planet, but I think planets with a trading outpost could benefit from something like this, since those places already have ships landing there. I'm not sure if something like this is possible, but I think it would be cool on livelier planets. It would also make the emptier planets feel more isolated.
  • Give the various buildings on planets varied architecture based on the type of alien that lives there. There only needs to be one type per race, even that would make it a little more exciting, I think. (I got this idea from this reddit thread where the user there has some excellent ideas.

And then to keep the gameplay loop fresh:

Implement a mini quest system similar to Skyim's 'radiant' quests. I know a lot of people found them boring, but for a game like NMS it would be nice, just so that we have a clear objective other than the huge task of getting to the center. I think I would really enjoy if I went to an outpost and the Gek inside gave me his tech or whatever like normal, and then gave me a secondary task of getting him a Gek charm, which he would pay me a bit above the going rate for. Or if an alien at a space station bar (which should be populated by at least a few aliens some of the time) gives me a stack of 500 platinum that he needs transported to a trading outpost on a planet a few systems over, all for a big reward and the risk of ships attacking me for my cargo.

There could also be some sort of bulletin board posted at space stations or trading outposts on planets. There's an unlimited amount of types of these quests. Give 5 neutrino modules to a Vy'keen warrior as proof of your combat prowess in exchange for a multitool with a sweet boltcaster with tons of upgrades. Scan all of the animal species on a nearby moon for a Korvax to receive an exosuit tech. Give me mundane tasks when I have low standing with the race, and give me more complicated and difficult ones as our relationship improves.

To end, my overall point is that this game doesn't need a huge questline or lengthy side quests. But it could use little flavor quests to help motivate players and make them feel like just another traveler in this huge universe filled with untold amounts of intelligent life. You aren't alone in the universe, and the game shouldn't pretend that you are.

Need pointers for getting a
atlas pass v2
.

Not coming across one anywhere. :(

1) Find a signal beacon
2) Craft 5-6+ bypass chips and use them all at the beacon
3) Pick 'colonial outpost' each time
4) Go to an outpost, pick the right option and learn a new blueprint each time. There's a chance that you'll get either an Atlas Pass v2 / v3 blueprint.
5) Repeat as needed.

Just fly around and check the ? markers?

I usually find them by going into outposts. Some have a terminal inside in which you answer a simple question (if you know alien words), the signal beams into outer space then comes back to the planet and gives you a yellowish marker to the ship.

Wait. So you can do the same option and just get more of those each time?! I've just been crafting four and doing those four only.

Also, getting really tired of the bug that launches you into orbit when your thrust off of the surface. Just had it happen 5 tomes in a row. Frustrating.
