No Man's Sky |OT2| Maths Effect

Well, I completely and utterly fucked my game up. My home planet turned into a desert, so I was looking to replace it, and I found a tropical planet with beautiful grass and lovely trees; just idyllic. So I broke down what was left of my base, claimed a habitable base on the lovely island planet, and set things back up. But I didn't finish up a mission in the previous system (which I can't get back to because it's not in my teleporter list and it's hundreds of warps away), and now everything says "You have to go to another system for this." My exocraft guy won't even talk to me even though he's standing right there. And the best part: any time I open the galactic map, I get a hard crash to desktop. So I can't leave my current system and I can't do any missions in my current system. I can still use my teleporter, of course, but two of the slots are taken up by the same system and when I warp to it I spawn outside the space station and fall into space. Hooray!

I still have a backup of my save from right before installing 1.3, so I can reload that and redo the specialist missions again easily enough, but I'm going to lose out on Commander Dork. Bah. This is bullshit.

Word of advice people; don't claim a new planet when you've got active missions in a system, or you may completely bone yourself.

I fixed this glitch by rebuilding my base on the same planet as before the patch. It should work then but yeah, it's annoying because my planet turned into a toxic wasteland :-\

They really do a terrible job of explaining things in the early game.

"Build 4 of these things. Just kidding! You need 7. Kept you on your toes, huh? Ok, now build 2 more of them. Just kidding! You need 4. Ain't I clever?"

And if you do any critical thinking of your own, like reading the descriptions of the ship parts, it makes it seem like you can fly around on the surface before repairing the interplanetary boosters. And if you don't know that getting in and out of the ship makes the game save, you end up with 3 saves next to the ship without any heridium or the means to safely get back to your starting area to make the signal booster.

I am playing it on Survivor in my first save file, so that's probably making some of these issues more dire, but everything is just so poorly described. I fully expect my 2nd save file to end up with an unwinnable loop of bullshit soon enough, too. At least I was able to get to the 2nd planet and get a nice clean save.

I can't get back to that system though. It's not in my teleporter log, and the opening the galactic map triggers a hard crash every time. It's literally impossible to proceed. I'll just reload my previous save and not bother upgrading my home base until I am VERY SURE I have nothing left to do.
 
I think I have a glitch with the new atlas path ending(?)

i get to the final interface and place the heart of the sun in the interface and nothing happens, no text, nothing

Anyone else run into this?
 
Finally started playing this. Seems very cool but a couple of things that I may have missed or are very poorly explained:

1) Can I not manually save anywhere? I was travelling in my ship for like 20 minutes and had to go to bed and couldn't figure out how to save. When I go to quit it says my last save was 20+ minutes ago, am I sure. So I just put the PS4 in rest mode.

2) Can I seriously only go this fast? The first off-planet mission has me going to one planet and then back to where I came from and it's like 10 minutes of boring-ass flying back and forth. I know you get some kind of warp drive thing at some point but until then is this my speed or did I miss something?

Exiting your ship saves your game, so I use that as a manual save.

Enter and exit your ship, activate a Beacon at any point of interest or build a Save Point from the Craft menu under Tech.

Survival mode really is not a great way to start the game. On my 2nd save file attempt, I got stuck on my 2nd planet with immediately hostile sentinels. So I would get stuck in an hour long loop of reloading my save until good enough RNG allowed me to collect enough fuel to take off in my plane to get the beacon.

Then I get to the beacon and I'm in that same loop of sentinels immediately hating on me before I can even find more fuel. There was just nothing to do. I gave up on Survival for now and went to easy mode Normal.

You just learn to never ever land unless you already have the Plutonium to liftoff :D

And while on 'safe' planets, always always stockpile a bit before you leave and risk venturing to new planets with unknown levels of creature or sentinel aggression hehe.

I basically never go anywhere new, and especially never land anywhere new, unless I'm loaded with plutonium, thamium9, and zinc/titanium. You find a safe planet, you farm up that safety net.

It's monotonous and laborious but that's what Survival/Permadeath mode is all about -- a constant daily chore and practice in minimizing risk and preparing for future danger avoidance or mitigation.

Are save points no longer on the quick build menu (up on d-pad)?

Yeah that's the takeaway I had from it, but I wasn't ready to jump back in after spending like 3-4 hours today between 2 save files both getting fucked. I didn't even know that taking off in the ship depleted all of the plutonium until my first time taking off.

I am sure Survival would have been much easier if I had played the game before trying it.
 
On flip side is that, for me at least, I started NMS my first time on Permadeath, and by nature of everything being 'new' it helped make the monotony more interesting -- precisely because it was new.

So, I could also seeing it be a big turnoff if someone played the game heavily at release and had to 'start all over' when they added Permadeath in update 1.2. Survive-Explore-Prosper games like Minecraft, NMS, etc can really benefit from that sort of 'honeymoon' period. I think it can still probably be fun -- I considered re-starting a new Permadeath file after 1.3 and wasn't too turned off by the notion of labouring through surviving the first 10 hours again -- but to be sure the large monotony of the Survival gameplay loop definitely still benefits from that sort of honeymoon experience.

New players may die/restart a few times (I did) but truthfully I think if Permadeath does remotely interest you -- don't put it off. NMS is the sort of game I think you only really want 1 file for (a la a MMO, EVE Online, Elite Dangerous, etc) so even if it's more challenging because you're new, I think it'll benefit your experience in other ways -- just be super careful haha :D The survival gameplay loop really is time consuming so it may be the type of experience that many gamers may only want to do once.... though the 1.3 changes to star station item quantities (and the new ship calling) are going to help a lot.

Plus, I think even though Survival/Permadeath would be easier/more manageable once you know the game, it could also then adversely become a little too 'by the numbers'? I guess? Maybe learning it off the cuff as I did, it helped keep me a bit more engaged. It certainly wasn't always the most ideal way to avoid dying though :p but the constant close calls kept it exciting haha.

Decided to continue on with my previous save for now. Just too much I love about my setup to change.

Happy they never changed melee/jetpack.
My idyllic Rigogen rich baseworld is now a toxic hole devoid of fauna.
My massive freighter farm is completely dead pending I use something I don't have on my trays ��

Feels like a new beginning anyways :]

Going to complete the base quests with my current base, but after that I am moving. My next base may feature a basement to keep fauna from growing through the ground floor.

After doing a few warps and exploring while doing the story progression, I guess I'm enjoying the game for the most part. There are still moments where I might yell, "What were they thinking??" at the TV, but overall it's been an enjoyable grind.

I'm playing uh, Survival, and it's ruff. I've gotten shot down, I've died to the toxic atmosphere of a planet, but it's enjoyable. Alot more polished than a year ago.

I'll probably go back to Survival after I get much further in the game. It just was not enjoyable to me as a first experience.
 
Survival is definitely alot more grindier, which I personally enjoy getting lost in. Its harder too. First pirate I see is a 3 star ship. Even with a squad of ships around me it took me down.(then again I was in a trader ship, my 1st ship with rockets was left abandoned for it lol).

So I remember(possibly incorrectly) around launch; when I played No Man's Sky the most, the best way to find lively and exotic planets was to go to green or blue stars, is that still the cse? The patch notes specially call out exotic planets as if they are a unique class of planet. I'm holding off doing a lot of the grind work in expanding inventory / finding crashed ships until I find a nice planet, is there a good way to do so? Or is it just luck when looking at planets?

is there a good guide on PC settings? i've got pretty much everything up full and for the most part it's OK but i'm getting heavy framerate drops at times. it's not random but happening when looking at certain things like materials flying towards you after mining or large element formations surrounding by light boxes (not sure exact name).

My question for all is: When i start this back up tonight with my old save with all these new patches... whats going to happen? Will i be presented with a ton of quests? Will i have to go some place to initiate things etc. I'm excited about the land vehicle, base building, terrain tool and missions in general. Where do i "begin" now?! This all sounds a little overwhelming.

a lot of people have started over again with 1.3. the game has changed a lot since last year.

i don't know what'll happen if you load up your save but i'd recommend starting again unless you really want to stick with your current save.

Man trashing 40+ hours of inventory upgrading and resource farming is going to be difficult... that's a shame if stuff doesn't work. I mean it has to right? They don't expect people to start over every time a patch drops... do they?!?

Your home planet might be a different biome, you'll have the quest, a bunch of recipes are different. In my save I swear my hazmat glove disappeared

Ok cool... i'm far away from my home planet now. Is this something i'll have to go back to to get something or other? Or will everything just be quests. If the later and all new content is just "in" the game and i pick it up via quests etc. i'll def NOT be starting over.

I started over after a 200+ hour game save. Really enjoying the new update and hope there are many more to come!

You can do the new story content without starting over. But you'll have to do the base building quests over again, I think because some of the recipes they give you have changed. And those are a bit glitched when using an existing save. If you do continue with your current save and already have a base, be sure to redo the base quests on your existing base or it will break things.

Just a heads up that some of the grind has been reduced a fair bit, obviously a load remains but the major one for me was making it that you can now find 40+ slot ships off the bat, they just have broken slots that you can repair with money over time.

That alone was enough to make me not care about starting again, having been the worst part of the grind for me in my old save.

I played for another hour or so. I made it off my home planet and landed on a planet with flying spaghetti-ish monsters and tall bird/dinosaur looking creatures. I think the melee cancel jump dash really really helps make this more enjoyable.

So the classes are static for their "class"? I found a wrecked A class trader ship that had damaged cargo, but it totals to 27 slots. Neat! I found a purty good ship.
The Class has % bonuses to make it better than a normal "Class C" of the same size/inventory

The Un-upgraded S is about the same as my upgraded S in stats I just can't hold shit lol

I guess I'm just fairly averse to grind. I think I'm poorer than most people who have been playing since launch simply because I don't want to spend an hour of my gaming time shooting rocks or tending to literal farms. In Pathfinder I was trying to force myself to mine rocks in order to buy a freighter and finally burnt out. Maybe in 1.3 with the trading improvements it might be possible to make money in early game without farming rocks, but it just doesn't seem like it would be worth it for me to do all that over.

Having a 40+ slot ship right away sounds a bit insane, and almost overpowered. I'm still rocking my C-class 19 slot fighter, though it feels inadequate now. The biggest cost/grind was not the ship itself, but all the weapon and warp upgrades I installed. I'll be sad to sell this sweet BSG Viper. The ole gal got me through a lot of scrapes.

If you can, try save all your money for the cheapest Freighter you can find instead of a new trade-in ship. You may regret getting rid of it down the line because of nostalgia.

I couldn't let go my original 'first new ship' a 28 slot C class Hauler. Made sure I bought a Freighter first so I could keep it in there forever haha. Then I bought a cheap 400K Explorer and used that to hunt Crashed Ships until I found my first real 'upgrade ship.'


That said, I don't know how practical that is anymore... Anyone notice Freighter prices are crazy now? In version 1.2, my 16 slot Freighter cost me 11 million before. Now in version 1.3, it says my Freighter is worth 55 million :O And every 16-18 slot Freighter I find with a Warp Drive is valued at 80-90 million o.0
 
^There will always be one Freighter near a space station, and a second Freighter warping in near a space station or while you leave a planet is common.

I'm finally replaying this since launch month. I decided to play from scratch. However, I've a question: do all initial planets have some kind of hazard weather (radiation, heat, freeze, acid rain, etc)?

Yeah, that's partly why I was trying to grind for a freighter during Pathfinder. But looking at the freighter prices now, I don't know how I'll ever afford one.

Ah gotcha. And that's determined by cockpit. Yeah, I got a trader ship, and the first time I went out to space(IN survival mode) I got a bounty for a pirate ship(100k credits! I could repair two inventory slots!) and thought 'sure why not'. So I fly around, it gets near a Freighter and fighter ships join me as wingmen(Can you control them or aim them? I forget) either way the moral of the story is don't fight a pirate ship in a traveler ship cause I got wrecked hard.

if that's true then i'm screwed on getting a freighter unless i go back to my money planets and hope it doesn't require hazemat gloves for the stuff i use to farm
