What was it one or two years ago the 536 million Powerball jackpot was won by a fragile retired old lady saw one picture of her with a 30 or 40 year son walking her around to claim it or something and we haven't heard from her again

I honestly lose respect for anyone who buys a lottery ticket, and so many people who are otherwise very reasonable and logical people will do it.

I lose respect for people who pay $13 for a beer at a club or ball game

I lose respect for people who buy electronic or video games the first day instead of waiting a month when the price goes down.

I lose respect for people who judge total strangers over trivial crap like spending $10 on buying lottery tickets twice a year

Get over yourself. You will enjoy life a bit more if you get off your high horse and come down to the ground with the rest of us.

Me and my dad chipped in. If I win there's a lot of travel in it for me. Also I'll get a couple suites at Wrestlemania and invite wrestlegaf.

Well said.

It's actually kind of funny too when you think about it; the odds would have been much better if they were buying into it earlier, before all the additional excitement around the historic jackpot.

Not really, you have the same chances of winning no matter how many people play.

OK never played or bought before.

What do I do? Numbers are automatic or I get to choose?

This was my first lotto ticket as well. I just went to a local store, asked if I could play powerball, sure, payed two bucks, lady gave me a ticket with random numbers on it. I'm guessing you can pick if you ask but I'm glad I didn't have to. No idea what numbers I would pick.

Drawing is tonight right? When is the latest I can buy a ticket?

The drawing is at 10:59 pm eastern time. At a minimum tickets sales are done 59 mins prior (10:00 pm eastern). But each state sets its own cut off time so it may be earlier than that depending on where you live

Going to buy two tickets. One for me and one for my mom. Never played before, but, why not?

People act like no one wins. lol

Yes the odds suck, but eventually someone wins. So how is this stupid or waste of money? How many stories out there of people who never buy lotto tickets or scratch offs turn into millionaires the next second? That's the whole fun of the game. I'll rather waste a 100 bucks on a billion dollar powerball then sit in front of a slot machine for hours.

The fact it's at a 65% chance is pretty nuts. It would be crazy if it hits a 100% to guarantee a winner that night.

The odds of winning with one ticket or 1000 is realistically the same. Buy one ticket, but don't waste your money on 1000, because you really have the same chance of winning.

I'm buying one quick pick for the novelty and utility of dreaming. But there's no point in burning money by playing more than once.

Also, LOL at people worried about taxes. The lump sum after taxes thrown in an overnight money market account would generate you millions a year in investment income, and that's not even properly investing with it. It's like living off your savings account interest.

Or you can get in a pool to increases your odds of winning slightly.

Too bad only some states let you stay anonymous.

It's bullshit, this should be mandatory in every state.

At this rate I'd rather win the $1 million prize (all numbers right, but not the powerball number) just to avoid the stress of literally everyone you have ever known hitting you up for money and when you refuse because you're planning it out they think you're hitler.

Aren't taxes based on your living address though? Not where you buy the ticket.

Yes.

I remember last year there being a neogaf pool put together by someone, should consider doing it again.

Yes but you have a year to claim your winning ticket in PA, could move there before you claim lol

I'm in PA, and the no tax thing is nice. I don't know about the legality, but if possible I'd change my name to John Doe before claiming, and change it back after since they are allowed to publish your name.

All your extended family coming out of the wood works.

I bought 5 tickets online. Hoping this changes things in my favor. If you find yourself having a few moments at the computer google Kankakee, IL and David Letterman. This is my hometown. I would do such wonderful things for this community.

Yes.

Filed under problems I wouldn't mind dealing with.

I'd have a simple rule: No hand outs, but free education with B 3.0 GPAs. Whatever you want to go to school for or go back for, I'll be the benefactor.

If I won, I'd buy a couple of nice things, pay off the student debts for my family members, buy them a couple nice things, set aside a few mil in the bank and then donate the other 99% to charity.

I've spent $2 on worse things.

Can I just swing buy any gas station and pick one of these up? I have literally never bought a lotto ticket before.
