Couldn't a really rich person spend like 350 million dollars buying all combinations and still make a profit off it?

There are 292 million combinations, to buy them all you'd need to spend $584 million. The current cash value is $558 million. Even if it were possible that would be like, the worst non-government made investment of over a half billion dollars ever. Never mind if and in all likelihood of someone else winning tonight.

It really is an absurd amount of money. Why not chose 600 winners with one million each or something like that ?

With how many tickets that are being sold there's probably going to be a hundred million dollar (or more) winners or at the very least, dozens.

If I won, the first thing I would do is give my mom 50 million and my two sisters 25 million each. Then give my aunts and uncles 5 million each, my close knit circle of online friends 2.5 million each, my close knit circle of friends I hang out with 2.5 million each. After that, trust funds, bonds, stocks and treasuries oh my!! After that I would buy a nice house, big but all on one level, but not too big. It would have a den for my consoles and a few arcade games, ms pacman, galaxia, marvel vs capcom 2, time crisis 2, Daytona USA, that fzero arcade game, metal slug 3 and the elusive white whale of arcade cabinets.....THE OCEAN HUNTER!!!! And when I finally get the THE OCEAN HUNTER in my hands, I'll be dressed as one of those old timey fisherman with the long coat and captain hat. It would just feel right for me. :D

I would hope you would have an agreement in place that makes them responsible for the taxes on all that. Not to mention how dangerous it can be to throw money at people who aren't prepared for it, you know like winning the lottery.

I see you're from North Carolina, this would be the net payout with state tax and the 25% Federal withholding, $386,415,000. Beyond the $14,000 exemption per person a year is the life time exemption which is a little over $5M, once that is used up without any agreement you'd be responsible for an additional 40% for every dollar you give away as a gift. I get why it's there and why it's so high but the gift tax sucks. It'd be better just to form the Trust and put their names on it with annual payouts.

Man I just realized how many workplaces are doing pools nation wide. Buying like 200 dollars worth of tickets.

And here I am spending 2 bucks. I don't even know why I get hopes up.

Bought one ticket for the hell of it. Not because I have any hope of winning, but because I want to say I played in the biggest lottery yet.

If this goes over billion dollar. I can see this shoot up to $20 per person.

Yeah, the people and groups putting the most money into this have the highest chance of winning, I expect at least one of the winners to be a pool if not some crazy person who bought a thousand tickets or whatever.

If I won I'd definitely be anonymous if at all possible. Failing that, I'd stash away a few mil and then donate the vast majority of it, while acting like I've donated all of it.

The rest would go into index funds, and I would live off the dividends pretending to be self-employed or something.

Slapped down 10 bucks. I was already there so why not? Picked 2 myself, then did Quick Pick for the other three (which they say is better I guess for some reason. I'm not good at maths).

I bought five tickets and used the same numbers on all of them, that way when I win I split the money five ways with myself.

It's slightly better to let the computer pick for you, because when people pick their own picks, they usually use Birthdays and other dates, which limits them to lower numbers.

Not a terrible strategy. If one other person wins you'll get 5/6ths of the jackpot. It's so unlikely that you would win, why not ensure that it's huge.

I've always thought buying multiple tickets was for suckers (you're not gonna win, and playing 1 number is as fun as 10) - but this is a smart* idea.

*In the logic of buying lottery tickets
