I'm surprised that to get the jackpot up faster, they haven't increased the payout for the smaller prizes.

Matching 4 numbers only get someone $100. 3 numbers. Only $7.

They changed it just last October with the intent of driving up the jackpot size. That's why it's almost $1 billion less than 3 months later.

You'd be taking less overall then.
If you did a present value calculation for your future cash flows, you'd find out it would be less than the current lump sum. This is all based off the interest rate fluctuations being similar to the past. Take the lump sum, just invest in index funds and you'll be fine. Simplest way to be rich for generations.

True but I don't need *that* much money. Getting a 10 million dollar allowance a year is more than enough then having to deal with $400 million at once. Less chance of a backstabbing lawyer or family member. According to my irrational logic :\

Taking the lump sum would allow you to claim it, stash it in overseas bank accounts, and disappear. I wouldn't want to keep living in the US after the entire country found out I have just won $1 billion. I would get the hell out of the country where there are enough guns for every man, woman, and child.

Meh, this simulator kinda blows, I wasn't that insanely lucky to win $100 four years ago on a Powerball ticket I asked for on accident. Granted the matrix is different now but still.

I look forward to the 90 year old Florida grandmother who wins, I just hope her grand kids are Floridamen or women.

So his calculator using math is wrong because of your anecdotal story?

Yes.

Anecdotes > Math

Always.

Have they ever posted what the record turnout has been for a single draw in the past? As in how many tickets were purchased?
