Cretinously credulous
Looks atmospheric and interesting.
Didn't watch US but get out was pretty good. Hoping for the best.

His stuff is usually decent enough to warrant a watch

Us was okay until everything goes batshit crazy at Tim Heideckers house, at which point I was having a pretty damn good time.

Is this one of those movies with only black people and a few evil white people?

Only Get Out could be described like that, and I feel that would be unfair as the antagonists are a specific group (and their brand of racism is more of positive discrimination).

Us is nothing like that at all. In fact, IIRC Peele once said he didn’t want to repeat themes in his future movies (as Us didn’t touch upon racism).

saw it yesterday. wasn't impressed with it. not terrible but it just didn't do much for me.

i liked how at first you thought it was
a spaceship but then you notice it's made of some kind of "fabric" and that it's eating people. then it gets ripped to shreds and turns into a big jelly fish balloon thing with a creepy square mouth or some shit.
i don't know what was going on lol.

also the stuff with the monkey. i don't get how that connected to anything? i thought the monkey was going to be something to do with the UFO.

while i didn't enjoy it i can't stop thinking about it. i might need to rewatch it at some point.

The theme of the movie is about working with animals and how reckless behavior or assuming you’re ever in full control of them will often lead to disaster. It’s why Steven Yuen’s character Jupe is important. The people who ran the Gordy show clearly had no idea how dangerous a chimpanzee can be and thus lives were lost. Jupe hides his trauma over this by making a museum dedicated to the show and when a new animal comes into town (the alien) he mistakenly believes he can do it right this time and starts feeding it OJ’s horses he‘s bought to form what Jupe assumes is a bond. Of course, as soon as he throws his first show, it goes as poorly as one would expect.

This is what helps OJ, Em, and Angel survive. OJ is shown at the beginning how well he understands how fickle even well trained animals can be as we see with how he handles the horse on the movie set, and when he comes to begin to understand how to temporarily avoid the alien’s wrath, he, Em, and Angel form a plan based on what they’ve studied of the creature. They still recognize the dangers but their knowledge helps them survive albeit coming real close to death. Meanwhile, the dipshit TMZ guy who rushes onto the scene and ignores the warnings dies quickly, and Holst dies due to his obsession with getting the shot overriding his own personal safety.

There’s a lot of awesome little details in the film. Remember how Em was talking near the beginning to the movie crew about her and OJ’s great-great grandfather and OJ corrects her that there should be a third “great” in there. Well, later in the movie Em has a tape playing of her dad giving the same speech in the background. The movie doesn’t say this specifically but what probably happened was Em memorized her dad’s speech precisely but didn’t think about how she would need to add a third “great” if her dad used two “greats”.

Really enjoyed it. Had no idea what it was going to be about other than something weird and horror-like considering the director.

Feels like the type of movie to really benefit from going in fresh not knowing anything about it. Would have hated to seen previews of this.

EDIT: I saw this twice, once in IMAX, and once in 4DX. Fog effects were perfect for this movie.

Its ok, it teases a lot, it uses the mystery box technique which keeps you engaged and its filmed well with lots of tension Peele is known for.

However the little payoff it has is underwhelming.

its kinda like the movies arrival and anhilation where humans come into contact with aliens, but the issue with Nope you only see the alien craft, no contact with them, the majority of the film just teases you with "ooooo aliens", a bit like the mel gibson movie signs, but at least with signs there are sub stories which keep you entertained

6.2/10

Absolutely do not read this if you want to see the film with zero spoilers.
The "craft" is the alien. It's an organism.

Is it? That was not confirmed or denied nor does this alleviate my criticisms of the film

Read my post above (#35). Also, the characters talk about it quite a bit, it ties into the theme of the film, and the final 5 or so minutes of the film is just one massive visual confirmation. Claiming the film didn’t confirm what we’re saying, like come on, that’s like saying the ending to Planet of the Apes didn’t confirm the planet was definitely Earth. Sure, nobody showed up with irrefutable proof that Taylor was looking at specifically our Statue of Liberty at the end of the film (we’re talking movie 1, so no bringing up sequels), but OBVIOUSLY it’s meant to be our Earth. Claiming otherwise is just baseless fan theories.

The main character literally says it
They never said the craft is a life form or a life form is controlling a craft.

we saw a craft made out of some fabric like material that was being controlled or was some intelligence, however we get no confirmation on what it was,i had a theory it could be like an alien remote vacuum cleaner, or it could be some human created A.i, maybe military tech from an other nation messing with us. My point is I think the film would of been better if it delved more into the UAP rather then leading up to just 20-30mins of seeing the craft suck up stuff, fly about, be popped by a giant human inflatable and have June be happy that this intelligence which she does not know what it is, appears to have been destroyed.
The subplot about the murdererous monkey was one of the better parts of the film, but its not enough to carry the whole film especially when its dragged out and drip fed to the viewer.
The ranchers thinking this intelligence behaves like some creature on earth I thought was quite daft, they literally have no idea what it is apart from basic observations.

OJ literally says 'It's not a ship, it's an organism." It DIGESTS people and it acts like an animal. What is there to understand about this? The entire movie is about animal behaviour.
Yeah thats his interpretation, not a fact established, The entire movie is not about animal behaviour, the main character is an stunt horse animal rancher and owner, and there is the character Ricky Hope which has a backstory where he survived a murderous chimp, but that does not have a lot of screen time, its kinda like a little side attraction, theres this circus/movie guy who survived a murderous chimp episode and now he wants to make a show with this UAP by baiting it with a horse, its to bad the film takes so long telling this story and its not even that fleshed out.

The main plot is about some ranch owners who have stunt animals and they start seeing UAPs and they try to get the UAPs on video.
And with OJ thinking the UAP is like a horse is just bit silly and not that entertaining of a concept, I did enjoy the last 30mins where something interesting finally happens and they get the UAP on film, there were a few facepalmy moments where Antlers and OJ where acting like they knew what they were talking about when discussing there strategy on hiw to get some footage of the UAP.
Im sure theres folks who like this vagueness regarding the UAP, I would of preferred more info on it. Its a bit like the film "Annihilation", what the alien is in that movie is also vague, but unlike Nope it conveys the idea that an alien would be vague and something we dont understand because its unlike anything on our planet/reality
