Now that the heavy hitters are out... Top games?

Ouch, seems I really struck a nerve there...eh, Zeliard. Are you actually calling me a Sony fanboy? Wow. Nothing could be further from the truth. If anything, I fall much more squarely in Microsoft's camp, even though I own a PS3 and Wii as well

Really, it's all in good fun and opinions are just that.

Lighten up, Francis.

What the fuck is this? You're not supposed to start lightening up. We have to fight.

For the record, I own Uncharted 2. Bought it on release day, actually. It ranks in my top 10 for the year, but I just happen to enjoy some other games more.

Now what you need to do is go buy Demon's Souls, and then you'll understand. So will your wife and kids.

Those of you who don't even have it in your lists either:

A) Have yet to play it. What the fuck are you waiting for?

or

B) Are entirely too wrapped up in your 200+ hour fantasy worlds of Demon Dragon Soul Age, level 12 fucking power sword. Get a goddamn girlfriend and get a clue.

Every other game released this year (and most others) is simply battling for second best. And this is coming from someone who plays his X360 a whole hell of a lot more than his PS3.

:lol @ you

anyway ummmm

Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 2
Demon's Souls
Uncharted 2
Dragon Age: Origins
Modern Warfare 2 (I hardly played MW1 at all)

Maybe Hearts of Iron 3 will go in there. It probably would if it didn't run like super shit when it came out.

What's that saying about a fool and his money?

I've got not only a career, but also a wife and two kids to compete with my gaming time, so yeah.

Whatever it is, it doesn't apply to me as I don't blindly buy video games. Either way, you're an idiot and probably pretty insecure about yourself. :lol

best -> least best

Left 4 Dead 2
Tales of Monkey Island
Flower
Uncharted 2
Brutal Legend

inverse vote (because it was that disappointing)
shadow complex

left 4 dead 2 smokes the competition. I can't believe how brilliant it is.

I haven't played Spirit Tracks, Assassin's 2 or Demon's Souls, and there's a chance that one or both of those might make the list.

Just to complete my list:

1) Uncharted 2 (With a bullet...actually with many spectacularly rendered bullets.)

2) Assassin's Creed 2 (So far above and beyond the first game that the two should not even be compared.)

3) New Super Mario Brothers Wii (After all these years...it's like pulling on your favorite pair of jeans. It just never gets old.)

4) Shadow Complex (Orson Scott Card is a hate mongering homophobic prick, but this game is so damned good.)

4) The Lost and Damned (Better than the game it's spawned from and no more damned babysitting.)

Honorable Mention (just outside my Top 5): Batman: Arkham Asylum, Modern Warfare 2 and Resident Evil 5

I am, I really am. It's truly insightful how well you know me...from GAF. *sigh*

Be careful, eggandI. The stone you've so carelessly hoisted may not be very well received by those glass walls you've surrounded yourself with.

Props to the AC2 and Mario shoutouts. ;)

Well, here goes nothing!

1. Uncharted 2
2. Killzone 2
3. InFamous
4. Chronicles of Riddick: AoDA (I'm a huge Riddick fan, get off me)
5.I'm saving this spot for a threeway battle royale! God Of War Collection vs. MW2 vs. AC2!!! Sunday, Sunday Sunday! We'll sell you the whole seat but you'll only need the edge!!

I'd actually love to pick up Demon Souls. If anything, I'm jealous of the amount of time you have on your hands to be able to play it and Dragon Age.

Unfortunately, I'm a completionist and I just can't find enough hours in my life to invest in those titles.

Oh please, I can't count the number of fucking times you went into the UC2 official thread just to fellate Demon's Souls
pixel monkey is a shill, but you're just a hypocrite.

Damn, I only have two new games. As an excuse, it's mostly because of LittleBigPlanet.

1)Uncharted 2
2) New Super Mario Bros. Wii (this game just brings a smile to my face..)

I'll probably end up getting AC2 later on. Woohoo 3 new games.

Demon's Souls

Uncharted 2

Killzone 2

Wipeout HD/Fury

Warhawk Expax

EDIT: Infamous on many people's lists - I may have to look into this one. Still $60 - ouch!

Uncharted 2
Batman:AA
Fallout 3 (I know it came out in 08 but I didnt start it until early 09)
Modern Warfare 2
EA Sports Titles - Madden, NBA Live, Fight Night Round 4, FIFA were all top notch this year in my opinion

How does this post even relate to the post you quoted? And if you can't count the number of times it's probably because you're imagining things. :lol I had like four total posts about DS in the UC2 thread, and every single one of them was in response to someone else talking about Demon's Souls. This was basically the most I said about it in the UC2 thread:

Zeliard said:
Normally I'd agree, but I can safely say that no game will come out between now and December 31st that will change my mind on what the GOTY is this year. Demon's Souls is certainly the best game I've played all year, and Borderlands and yet another Call of Duty game won't change that.

The only thing that stands even a remote chance is Dragon Age: Origins, and it would have to surprise the hell out of me to do so.

I do like Uncharted 2 a lot, though. It's much better than the first game. Even the gunplay has grown on me a lot this time around - they definitely worked on that facet of the gameplay and there's more feedback to the player now. I've been having more fun with it than I expected to.

It was also in direct response to a post talking about GOTY discussion, which included both Uncharted 2 and Demon's Souls. I even praised Uncharted 2 in that very post.

And as it turns out, Dragon Age did in fact surprise the hell out of me, and it's my GOTY.

1. Street Fighter IV
2. A Boy and His Blob
3. New Super Mario Bros Wii
4. Trials HD
5. Blaz Blue
6. Scribblenauts

It was a great year for people like me that don't like the direction that most of the big budget modern games have taken. These titles reminded me of a better time when games tried to be fun instead of cinematic.

Uncharted 2 and Dragon Age: Origins are pretty clearly at the top. As of right now I'd say U2 is the better game, but I haven't finished DA:O even for the first time yet and I'm completely addicted to it right now.

The rest of the top 5 would be Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and... I'd say BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger.

I'd say:
1)Uncharted 2 (duh)
2)Fallout 3
3)Oblivion (yes I only just started playing after buying for cheap)
4)Batman AA
5)Killzone 2

Havn't played MW2 yet, but I couldn't even begin to describe how much I HATE COD4, so I'll get around to it next year. Have not gotten Dragon's age yet, and couldn't fine a copy of demon's souls everywhere as well.

i fully intend to pick uncharted 2 up...when the price tanks and it hits bargain bins. How does that make you feel sunshine?

I didn't like the first that much and have to many good games to give the series another go right now.

1. Uncharted 2- Holy Crap. Very happy I purchased a PS3 Slim... very happy.
2. Modern Warfare 2- Many hours will be spent in the multiplayer.
3. Halo Wars- Surprise hit for me. RTS on consoles can be made well.
4. Halo 3:ODST- Amazing campaign, loved the loneliness of it.
5. Pokemon Platinum- My first pokemon game since Yellow... I like where the series is headed.

I haven't had the chance to pick up Left 4 Dead 2 yet but I imagine that it would be 2-4 on this list judging from game play videos.

Can't believe I'm only the second person to mention Rhythm Heaven.

It's my GOTY.

The original Japanese release was in my personal top 5 last year, so I didn't include the NA release this year. Agreed that it deserves more praise and attention, but that might be the reason it's not getting it in this thread.

I assume you're not playing the censored version?
Funnily enough, most of my 10+ hours with the game have been played censored. I use the work-around to play with my mates, but when I'm playing with GAFers I'm forced to play censored (unless they too change the app ID code).

The game totally transcends the censored stuff. The actual act of playing is just fucking fantastic, censored or not.

Oh, and I completely forgot NSMBW on my list.

best -> least best

Left 4 Dead 2
Tales of Monkey Island
Uncharted 2
New Super Mario Bros Wii
Rhythm Heaven

edit: shit, forgot about Rhythm Heaven, Hatsworth and handheld games in general. this year has been great.

No order....

COD: MW2
Forza 3
Uncharted 2
Batman: AA
Killzone 2

Bought, but haven't played yet:

Assassin's Creed 2
Left 4 Dead 2
GTA: Stories from Liberty City
Halo3 ODST
InFAMOUS

Dragon Age (PC) and Uncharted 2 will most definitely be in my top 5. I want to get through my backlog (Demon's Souls, Batman: AA, Borderlands, etc) before I start with any lists though. I also haven't picked up NSMB Wii yet. That will be my last "big game" purchase of the year.

1. Batman: Arkham Asylum
2. Dragon Age: Origins
3. Flower
4. New Super Mario Bros. Wii
5. Left 4 Dead 2
6. Street Fighter IV
7. Uncharted 2
8. Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
9. Dawn of War 2
10. Plants Vs. Zombies

Honorable Mentions: Resident Evil 5, Little King's Story

Year has largely sucked.

Top games in no particular order:
Uncharted 2
Plants vs. Zombies
Killing Floor
Prototype Fuck the haters. Most outrageous shit ever.
Empire: Total War
Dawn of War 2

Games that look awesome that I haven't played yet:
Assassin's Creed 2 (will buy for PC next year)
Demon Souls
Dragon age

Haven't really enjoyed many games, but I do have a lot of fun with:

Killzone 2 (16vs16 with changing objectives makes you feel like you're in a real warzone)
Warhawk (when I'm not getting my ass kicked, this game is freaking hilarious)

Games I want to play:

NSMB Wii
Halo 3

I only have enough money for one console so I'm debating if I should go with 360 or Wii.

1) Uncharted 2
2) MLB 09: The Show
3) Torchlight
4) Demon Souls
5) Dragon Age.

I've yet to tri Ratchet and Clank: Crack in Time or Assassin's Creed II yet, so they could sneak in.

Dragon Age: Origins
Street Fighter IV
Modern Warfare 2
Forza 3
Halo 3: ODST

That being said, my opinion isn't 100% valid, as I've yet to play UC2 single player, NSMB wii, Ratchet and Clank: Crack in Time, AC2 and Demons Souls, which all could be in contention for a spot on this top 5 list.

Seems I haven't played many 2009 releases this year. But of what I've played, only four are worthy of a top spot:

Left 4 Dead 2 - Went way above expectations.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii - Currently only on the first world, but it's already great.
Beatles: Rock Band
Shadow Complex

I wanted to like Borderlands, but the problems with the PC version and the 3 entire weeks it took to release a patch (which still hasn't addressed everything) that should have been out day one put me off. I stopped playing at around level 30, and I'm not sure I want to go back now that friends have stopped and everyone is playing L4D2, myself included.

Games that will potentially be in the top spot that I have yet to play:

Assassin's Creed II
Dragon Age: Origins
Torchlight
Batman: Arkham Asylum (?)
A bunch of PS3 games that I can't afford. :(

God of War III Demo (Yes it was that good) :D

Uncharted 2
Killzone 2
Batman : AA (Big surprize for me)
Infamous
Rachet and Clank :ACiT
