Now that we have RE4 what do you think of the original ver(s) of RE4 that got axed?

well we cant change RE4, but do look forward to 24-bit color or 32-bit color RE5 on Revolution & PS3 ^___^ thanks to ATI & Nvidia. remember Gamecube's feature set was decided on in 1998. implemented in 1999.

There are plenty of GC, PS2, and XBOX games that use color depths higher than 16-bit, though. Metroid Prime on GC, for example, not only runs in 24-bit color...it also runs at a smooth 60 fps. MGS3 is said to push the PS2 to its limits and also happens to sport 24-bit color.

Honestly, the problems in RE4 aren't something that always occur when using a 16-bit front buffer. However, the exact problems are also found in PN03...which was created by the same studio. I know PN03 wasn't pushing the system to its limits...

There were lots of canceled RE games... off the top of my head...

-Biohazard Dash/1.5 (PlayStation)
-Biohazard 2 (Saturn) used the 4MB RAM cart
-Biohazard Gaiden (N64) became Onimusha, moved to PS1 then PS2
-Biohazard 0 (N64) moved to GC
-Biohazard 4 (PS2) became DMC
-Biohazard (GBC) port of the first game
-Network Biohazard (DC/PC) became Outbreak on PS2
-Biohazard 4 (GC) first 3 builds
Wow. Some of those (particularily the Onimusha and DMC ones) are just wild.

Man, Someone posted a link with concept artwork for the PS2-RE4.

It had dante as a cop and everything, different than the DMC that they actually released.

Someone post the link again please :(

Mark (MacD, above) and I played Biohazard 1.5 several years back when visiting a friend of ours at Capcom who had access to 'the vault.' Definitely one of my most memorable experiences during the PS1 era, especially since we were really rabid Biohazard fans back then and pretty much nobody outside of Capcom had ever been given a chance to try it.

I also have a copy of Code: Veronica for Dreamcast that has the first-person mode built into the main game. And Mark has tons of old beta versions of the RE games (especially RE1) that have various different contents that never made it into the final games.

Good times, those days. :)

It would be too much to ask Capcom to be teh good soilder by finishing and releasing all the versions--or at least making them playable if not complete. put them into a Gamecube/PS2 directors cut or special edition or something.

but i'm sure this will never happen and the three scrapped RE4s will go the way of RE 1.5. sigh.

Yeah, if they liked what they were making, they wouldn't have scrapped it and instead made the final version. The final version is the best single player game in a long time, so don't second guess it. This isn't unusual. Go and check out some Halo 2 interviews. They completely scrapped it (and most of the Earth stuff) after the first couple trailers were released too.

I agree that the RE4 that we got is fantastic. and is probably the best version of RE4 that Capcom made. still, that does not stop me from wanting the 3 other versions. Hopefully what others have said is true, that we have not seen the last of those eariler works.
