My first ever thread here on gaf so sorry if this has been made or discussed elsewhere.

So now xbox, playstation have shown their hands with the 3 new xbox consoles, the ps5 pro reveal. Not fussed for them at all.

Is it now time for nintendo to show the new console we have all been waiting for? Like before Christmas?I think it would be a great move.

I'm personally more excited for that reveal than the stuff that's been shown so far from xbox and ps.

What do fellow gaffers think? Will it affect the preorders of both the new xbox and ps5 Pro?

There is some overlap between the Switch audience and the XB/PS audience, but I don't think the people getting the PS5 Pro are part of that overlap. PS5 Pro is targeting the people who care a great deal about graphical fidelity, which is not who Nintendo is targeting.

I think there are a lot of people who will choose to upgrade their Switch to a Switch 2 instead of their PS5 to a PS5 Pro...

For whatever that is worth.

A Switch that can run COD or Fortnite at some sort of decent settings would be a god send.

I think those people would still want to upgrade to the Switch 2 anyway, whether the PS5 Pro existed or not. One will be a system that gives access to new games, the other is to play exisitng games in higher quality.

I hope you enjoy playing your games on an underpowered hardware for another 7-8 years.

I agree OP! The Switcharoo: Electric Boogaloo should be great, at least I hope. They've got some great studios and IP, give new IP a chance as well and make games with art style and substance. I do hope its in a reasonable price range and has a solid launch line-up and back compat. If they stick the landing the Switch 2 or whatever will likely be our main console coupled with a good PC in the future. I just don't see the value proposition for us anymore with others sadly.

The price will be around $450 for the Switch 2 and a lot of people are expecting a lot for it, but they’ll be very disappointed when price and specs are revealed.

As others have stated, they are not in direct competition. There is a giant gulf of reasons why each system is different and serves different purposes within gaming. A Nintendo handheld has always been the device you get along with your home console or PC.
This being a new generation for Nintendo brings with it new games and experiences.

That being said, I think Nintendo also has an uphill battle if their new system is little more than a "Pro" version of the Switch. They will need to define why this is a necessary upgrade and provide the games that can only be played on their new system.
I mean all the cross gen games that came from WII U worked out because, well no one bought the damn thing.

If "Switch 2" is just another cross gen platform, then I see very little use for it except for the fact that we desperately need a power boost coming from the Switch, it is incredibly dated at this point and frankly most of the games on it look and run like shit.

What specs do you think people are expecitng? We already have a pretty good idea of the specs from the Nvidia leak.

Nintendo could price the switch 2 at 399$ now, and be perfectly fine. Everyone understands inflation to some extent, and compared to 500, and 700$ it'll look like a bargain.

I wonder if they'll go up to 449?

I keep seeing people mentioning that It’ll be ps5 like specs, and that PSSR is trying to diminishing DLSS on Nintendo Switch 2.

And it’ll be 4K 60 fps at only $399.

Where are you seeing people saying PS5 like specs? Most people I'm seeing on neogaf and elsewhere believe it'll be somewhere between PS4 and PS5 in power.

4k 60fps could happen for some games, but not very many.

Whatever the power of the Switch 2 is you can count on Nintendo first party titles running great, and everything running like dog shit.

But the online will likely still be trash.
They really need to have an Ethernet port on the base for docked play.

It’ll be similar to a LCD Steam Deck with less RAM, the Deck is lower than Xbox Series S and this one lower than a PS5.

I truly don’t believe it’ll have games at 4K and 60fps tho. But we’ll see

Nintendo is in its own market, without direct competition. PC players, Sony and Xbox will also buy a Switch. You want to play Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Pokemon et al, you buy the system.

Of all the publishers, they really are the one that relies on their games.

Nintendo has little interest in an arms race and will price the device accordingly. I’m expecting £400 in the UK.

I hope so, I’d love to see what they’ve been cooking - hopefully alongside a new 3D Mario and Mario Kart.

I don't think they will show anything untill they get the holiday season out of the way first.
They have a very, very light holiday lineup. And it’s all out by early November. Their holiday lineup this year is literally 2D Zelda, Mario Party and Mario & Luigi. I think in lieu of the traditional big September Direct, they’ve gotten all the marketing of their fall Switch 1 games done ahead of time, and instead they’ll do something for Switch 2, since they know we’re all waiting, and Switch is oversaturated and running dry.

Nintendo should let Sony marinate in that $700+ price point for a bit. If they come out at $400 then they’ll dominate once again.

I'll be very surprised if 0 games hit that.

For example, you can get Rocket League on Switch at 30fps 1080p, so the more powerful Switch 2 could be able to run it 60fps and then DLSS that up to 4K.

Most games won't be 4K 60fps though.
