Nows the time for nintendo to show their hand.

I dont think Nintendo is competing with Sony/Microsoft anymore so it largely doesn't matter when they show their hand or what cards they're holding. I'm guessing most people are PS/Nintendo, MS/Nintendo or PC/Nintendo.

My first ever thread here on gaf so sorry if this has been made or discussed elsewhere.

So now xbox, playstation have shown their hands with the 3 new xbox consoles, the ps5 pro reveal. Not fussed for them at all.

Is it now time for nintendo to show the new console we have all been waiting for? Like before Christmas?I think it would be a great move.

I'm personally more excited for that reveal than the stuff that's been shown so far from xbox and ps.

What do fellow gaffers think? Will it affect the preorders of both the new xbox and ps5 Pro?
I'm more excited for the Switch's successor than a mid-gen refresh from anyone but every time I play a Nintendo game, I wished I could play it on pc (without the use of emulation) or on a Sony console. Anyway gameplay > graphics so it's all good!

By the way OP, really nice Avatar...but maybe you should change your username to Cool #9 instead of Hunter 99! ;)

Basically zero interest in more powerful consoles, devs and tech have plenty of life in them to produce games I enjoy on current tech. I'm more interested in great games or devices. Nintendo often trump Sony or MS or PC with regards to great games and unique devices.

I want to see the games. The Nintendo games. It's clear Nintendo understand what more power can give them, BOTW and Bowser's Story are examples that could use better hardware.

While I appreciate what Sony is doing in graphics, their video wasn't that impressive, it looks so similar. But maybe for gamer gamers.

Haha thankyou and yea Cool #9 would be a more suitable choice.😄
Nice to hear from someone who appreciates amazing guitarists, you can't beat satch👍

But yeah gameplay over graphics any day and nintendo games have looked good regardless of power. I mean windwaker looks timeless even now 20 years on for 1 example.

I hope you enjoy playing your games on an underpowered hardware for another 7-8 years.
This is honestly such a stupid argument, since when was the power of the hardware the deciding factor? Then everyone would just use PCs. The Switch had as much power as it needed for Nintendo to develop their games, Xbox SX and PS5 is immensely more powerful but what have they to show for it in games?

I hope Nintendo reveals soon. I don't buy that it'll harm their Christmas sales, they'll recoup it in future Switch 2 sales if we would even see a drop. Put a good price drop on the switch during the holidays and the Switch will still sell gangbusters.

Why on earth would they get rid of their money printer? They're going to milk it for as long as they possibly can
Switch sales are in serious decline. The money printer is sputtering. I'm sure they'll support it for a couple of years after the Switch 2 releases, but they won't be able to depend on it as the sole core of their business much longer.

Also we know that the Switch successor will be revealed before the end of March, because Nintendo told their investors as much.

So funny how people say that Nintendo has got it covered by Switch 2 and Sony is doomed. Gamers who have chosen only Switch and will buy Switch 2 were never PS5 Pro target audience, they don't mind gaming on a weak platform after all. Pro is for enthusiasts who want graphics and performance but don't want gaming PCs.

They have a very, very light holiday lineup. And it’s all out by early November. Their holiday lineup this year is literally 2D Zelda, Mario Party and Mario & Luigi. I think in lieu of the traditional big September Direct, they’ve gotten all the marketing of their fall Switch 1 games done ahead of time, and instead they’ll do something for Switch 2, since they know we’re all waiting, and Switch is oversaturated and running dry.

If they do reveal the system before next year they stand to lose Switch 1 holiday sales. I don't see what Nintendo loses if they make us wait. They will feel better that we aren't waiting impatiently I guess? Big ask for Nintendo right there.

No. I can guarantee the new Nintendo will be at least $449. $499 is most likely though.

PC & Nintendo has been the best combination this gen and will no doubt continue to be the best one next gen too. So excited to see what they have to offer. We all know it'll be underpowered, but it will still have that Nintendo magic.

I think Nintendo has a timeline to start their marketing.

But as long as it has some Mario, Zelda, and other nintendo properties, I will be there. I assume the next mainline Mario is a system release game.

It’s a hard thing to predict, because the last time they had a console transition the Wii U was already commercially dead. And Switch just needed to essentially restart everything over from zero. So the timeline now is really venturing into the unknown. What we do know is that Nintendo intends for this to be the smoothest console transition that they’ve ever had, and that they intend to not have any major gaps in games and hardware sales like they usually have to contend with during transitions. So exactly what that means for what they’re planning, I don’t know. But I think this steady stream of good quality Switch games, through the last 18-24 months is certainly part of that plan.

You said it yourself. Wii U was already dead so they had no sales to lose by revealing Switch, and they wanted to get away from the Wii brand as fast as humanly possible.

While they are comfortably printing money on Switch, they just won't do it right before the holiday. It just seems completely anathema to everything Nintendo stands for lol.

Im gonna wager- Nintendo isnt in the business of taking the negative attention off Sony right now.
Wait alittle- let Sony continue to take hits fully. Then when that dies down get all the attention for yourself and their new console. No sense in removing a negative spotlight off a competitor.

Hope that makes sense, from a Corporate Nintendo standpoint.

They just need to have a Direct.....show the Switch 2....then hold up a sign saying "$399!!" ............have a mic drop and walk out.

Switch 2 adoption rates will likely proceed as PS5 and Series S/X did. This is partly why I predict that Switch 2 will come with sticker shock of its own.

We live in a GAAS-dominated space, if your OG switch can already run Fortnite and it's all you play, then why would you upgrade?

It depends on:

1. When mass production starts (as that will then open the leak floodgates)
2. When Nintendo wants third parties to be able to announce their Switch 2 projects.

People who want to get it don't need justification for it. The big factor for how many Switches get per household will be price. A $400+ price tag starts to increasingly deter that for the casual fams out there.

I don't think they will show anything untill they get the holiday season out of the way first.
It would depend on when they are planing to release the console, if it’s before march, they will have show it by November, or risk supply leaks,

I'd love to hear news sooner but I can't see it until maybe December at the earliest. But who knows with Nintendo!
