Woo Gaiden cracks the 500K barrier!

Tecmo should make this game a Platinum Hits game next month. Unless they are content with selling 8K a month (Which it did the last two months).

Price drop would boost sales big time, especially in the holiday season.

The surprising part is that smoe people really believed that.

It's too bad Ninja Gaiden had a really big drop off from March. Guess the Platinum Hits release will butter things up.

I hope that Soul Calibur II GC also breaks into the million mold sometime before this generation's over.

Halo will be knocked down again after GTA:SA's release. :)

It's amazing that the 3 best selling games this gen are all going to be from the same series. Is that the first time something like that has ever happened?

It isn't that tough. :lol

I know and to be honest I probably could have managed a fair bit further than I did get Chp. 11 I think, the chp after the big featherless bird type thing with the Alien-esque elongated head boss. It's just I found that there wasn't enough payoff for me in terms of fun and just anticipation for what was next to get over how chore like going from one room to the next was becoming.

That and I hit a swimming section which totally turns me off. I kept thinking 'if only someone had told them that the swimming controls were crap and they'd but this section out of the game'. So many games balls it up when they try to include underwater swimming and NG was no exception.

That would be two games, not three.

Three.
Pokemon Red/Blue
Pokemon Gold/Silver
Pokemon Yellow

Last Gen, these sold like crazy. Red/Blue came out, then Yellow, then Gold/Silver.

in Japan for GBA:

Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire
Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green
Pokemon Emerald

Again, three seperate games, all released this gen. R/S, then FI/LE, then Em.

And Pokemon Crystal fits in there somewhere too. I can attest to all the cool things that were added to yellow and crystal. They are new enough to be considered different. It's not like Pokemon changes that much anyway. :)

Madden 05 LTD cross platform = 2,013,321
ESPN 2k5 LTD.. cross platform = 1,882,862

difference 130,459. amazing.

Though that does not inlcude GC sales of madden, add 150K at most to EAs collumn. Damn. Am I the only one just finding this out?

Not to mention the special edition of Madden PS2 which is at almost 350K I think.

But ESPN has taken a huge chunk.

Emerald and Yellow are different enough from their originals to be considered separate.

I finished Yellow after completing Pokemon Red and it was not a whole new experience. Having Pikachu helped early in the game but that was it. Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow are still considered one game, just as Pokemon G/S/C and the others are still one game. GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas however, are completely different games.

Ooh. I forgot about the special edition. well its not so close then, but still impressive.

If they made enough money on the title, maybe we will continue to see it at sub industry standard price, if not 19.99.

Would be a nice change of pace, as not every VG is worth $50.

So long as it's published through TakeTwo you can expect low pricing to continue. It's something of a longer term strategy, probably won't raise from 19.99 until they have taken a decent chunk of EAs mindshare(should be interesting to see the final sales when next year update rolls around).
Of course there's always the chance EA will go down with their sports pricing too...

A "Ninja Gaiden Ultimate" including the XBL DLC for no more than $29.99 would rock. I'd buy it again no doubt.

Cant see that happening at a reduced price, it'd take quite a bit of work to rework the interfaces to fit the new challenges and difficulty levels (let alone the different skins) into the offline version of the game, at the moment you can only play pack 2 through xbox live (afaik)

They're clear upgrades, and counted seperately from the dual releases by nearly everyone. Would you also consider VF4 & VF4E to be the same game? Daytona USA & Daytona CCE? New Generation, 2nd Impact and 3rd Strike are all one game? We've actually only gotten one GGX game this generation?

I'd say it's likely that Mario 1-3 in the NES days also.

But it's still a separate title as it was released separately from R and B. Yellow is a Director's Cut for R and B.

Directors cut? I dunno, you're giving it far to much credit.
It was the same game as Red and Blue with extremely minor additions (biggest gameplay addition being a lame surfing minigame or Pikachu having 'emotions').

Let's just call it what it is: Nintendo's successful attempt at reeling in more cash by changing the subtitle and color palette.

If Pokemon Yellow isn't considered the same as Red and Blue, Ruby and Saphire can't be categorized as the same.

Yellow has content differences from R&B and was released much later. RuSa is exactly the same out side monster appearance and were released simultaneously, there's a clear difference here.

Red = Blue < Yellow

Gold = Silver < Crystal

Ruby = Sapphire < Emerald

Fire Red = Leaf Green

Pearl = Diamond

...Yellow really didn't add too much no, but there were still additions. Crystal and (suppossedly) Emerald added a lot from what I understand though.

It wasn't just a price tag that finally knocked EA's seemingly unassailable mindshare in the sports sector. SEGA had already tried that in 2K3 when, within a few months of launch and ahead of the holiday selling season, they formally announced a price drop to $19.99 for NFL. They had matched EA dollar for dollar in advertising that year, too. Even though their sports games have consistently been reduced to clearance prices shortly after launch, it's never had such an effect.

The ace this year was Take-Two and their aggressive play. Take-Two's US retail distribution and POP support is second only to EA's for third party console publishers, so they had a visibly compelling alternative for Madden fans when SEGA's typically high development and production standards came together with the pricing hook and early launch. A good portion of the million-strong Dreamcast 2K adopters would've also come into the market with the newer systems hitting their price drops.

This market battle is about mindshare and user familiarity, so SEGA's sports titles will begrudge giving back marketshare with the kind of stubborness they faced in capturing it in the first place, even if they raise the price. The main goal has been accomplished: their brand is now a significant consideration when customers are in the market for sports games.

I don't think it will pay off as well as they hope. It sure digs into EA and has probably really, really pissed them off. However, if they try and raise the price they will lose sales. From what I've heard, Take-Two has actually lost money on the deal, but is considering it an investment in VC. The ESPN did not sell it, the advertising didn't sell it, the $19.99 sold it (although people wouldn't have known without the advertising).

Given how much more it's hurt EA, I've got a crazy idea that EA may try to corner the NFL market by getting an exclusive NFL contract. They could double what Take-Two paid and it would still be worth it if they could charge $49.99 and get investors less nervous about this vulnerability.

EA would be dickheaded to do that, and the benefits wouldn't be there.

They already have an exclusive contract for Nascar and THQ had an exclusive contract for WWE. What's so dickheaded about it? It's not show friends, it's show business.

And I do believe the benefits would be there. Now, the NFL and players assocation might not allow exclusive contracts, but if they do, EA would be foolish to not look at it.

And if you look at how much EA's stock price has dropped, I think the benefit would be substantial. EA is willing to fight ESPN if they were just competing on the merit of the product itself, but believe me, they (along with a few other publishers) aren't real happy with Take-Two's pricing move.

I am just going to say that I agree with snapty00. The games are only combined when it benefits a persons argument.

You mean like whenever they're reviewed? How many major media outlets reviewed Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire seperately? And how many gave them different scores, since they're obviously different games?

When did I say that Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire weren't the same game? You are thinking of someone else.
When you mentioned them only being combined when it suits a person's argument?

Nintendo divides them down the same way btw (dual releases count together, later upgrades count seperately). So do plenty of polling outlets in Japan actually... there's a clear precedent for it.
