NPD Current-Gen Titles > 500k (As of Sep 2004 - INCLUDING THE CORRECT GBA!)

I was talking about sales. You never hear a fan bragging about Pokemon Red and blue selling great, it was always all three of the games. Once Emerald is released worldwide it will be in the same position.

Where does the Japanese Blue fall in here anyway? It was released after Pokemon Red and Green were released so what would it be considered?

Madden 05 LTD cross platform = 2,013,321
ESPN 2k5 LTD.. cross platform = 1,882,862

Madden 05 revenue = $100,645,916.79
ESPN 2K5 revenue = $37,638,411.38

Madden 04 PS2+XBX = 4,201,918
Madden 04 revenue = $210,053,880

ESPN 2K4 didn't reach 500k on either PS2 or Xbox, so less than $50 mil in revenue.

So not only did they bring in about the same amount of money, they took a huge chunk out of EA's marketshare. I'd say that's a HUGE win for Sega.

Actually I've only seen anyone group the dual releases together for sales (Nintendo included). Insertia wanted Yellow grouped with RB only so it wouldn't count as another best selling release.

I'm not entirely sure, but it also had content differences from R&G (including overhauled visuals) and was a promotional/mail order item before Nintendo eventually gave it a full release. Our R&B is actually based off the JP R&G but with the JP Blue upgrades added to both.

But, if they brought in the same amount of money while selling more units, they have to pay ESPN, the NFL, & the NFL Players association on a per unit basis, meaning a MUCH higher payout. They only get at most $15 wholesale on the game, and pay ~$5-$7 in royalty/manufacturing to Sony. So they made about $8-$10 per unit before expenses. Add in the huge marketing costs and I guarantee you that they lost money on it this year.

I really don't see it as a win for Take-Two and certainly not Sega. The point seems to be that Sega wants out and Take-Two wants in on the sports biz, so this was an experiment of sorts and an attempt to revitalize the brand (which they might have done).

However, it has unquestionably hurt EA.

....woah, didn't realize that. Namco Hometek's best selling game this gen is on GBA, yet they continually ignore the platform. Give us some Driller/Klonoa/Tales you fucks! :/

What's been its average price, though? I usually see it for $10, sometimes $15.

Unrelatedly, I think Animal Crossing has snuck up an extra hundred thou or so since the last time I checked. o_O

EB also gave it away in a holiday bundle last year, and we sold a ton of them. I'm sure other places may've done the same, too.
